Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

22 F, sunny, nice day for a long run.  Had a yogurt, banana and gatorade for breakfast.  Wore therma fleece, stabylx tights, gloves, cap with headband, sunglasses and fuel belt.  I'm gonna feel so much lighter at Boston.  Ran to the temple and up to Alpine.  Didn't stop the Garmin at traffic lights.  Drank gatorade at mile 4, 8, 13 & 15, Gu at 10.  Legs were sluggish going north and uphill.  Picked up the pace the last 3 miles to finish strong.  Cold water soak, calves and feet a little sore.

17.3 miles in 2:47:30  AP: 9:40  I'm a little disappointed for not hitting my target pace today.  O well, I'm sure there'll be better runs next week.

Today marks the end of February with 208 miles.  I asked hubby to drop off my Grand Slam registration at WRC on his way to skiing.  He didn't call me "crazy" this time.  What a great guy!

Very nice run Smooth :D Try not to stress about the pace. Running is an art and not a science. Well, it's a mix. Some days you have to go with the art side. How does it feel, what does the heart and body have in mind for today's run? That brain of ours has such grand ideas, but those brilliant ideas can put some hefty burdens on those cute legs if we aren't careful ;)

You are an unbelievable runner Smooth! I am just amazed by your training. Darn it honey, you are the coolest runner in Utah! You win today's prize!

From DonGardinero on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 17:51:17 from 75.162.182.228

Awesome run, Smooth. I'm always amazed with your stamina and speed. You are always so focused. Way to go!!! 208 miles in one month is nothing to sneeze at. My mileage didn't even come close to yours. You are going to do awesome at Boston.

From leslie on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:37:27 from 76.23.61.78

Great run today Smooth! I guess I missed something about a zombie, oh, well, my brain isn't working too well today, I took a nap after my run and now I am getting ready for our date night, off to Tucci's and the Jazz game with friends. Speaking of friends, I am so glad you to call you and all my blogging buddies my dear friends!!! You truely are my inspiration!

From leslie on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:40:28 from 76.23.61.78

Oh, and 208 for Feb. is CRAZY!!!! AWESOME!!! I think you should be a pacer for the Cliff Bar team, you would be perfect for that job! And you could run for free!!! I can just see you holding up your balloon and leading a group and keeping everyone motivated and laughing along the way!!!! Tell Larry that will be your new job!!

From RAD on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:57:06 from 67.166.99.8

Oh, I agree with Leslie about the pacer!! You would be so awesome, I'd run whatever pace you were at just to stay entertained and motivated :) Plus the free can't hurt. Great run today, I'm with Marion about the pace...one reason why I don't like the Garmin! I just do what I feel, somedays its 10mm some days its 8mm. Listening to our bodies is better than following a schedule, because sometimes our bodies don't listen to the brain for a reason! Look at your awesome mileage and enjoy your 'coolest runner prize' and go celebrate tonight!! You are so awesome, I'm so proud to be your friend!!

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 19:03:41 from 71.36.68.40

Marion,

The prize I won was the friend I found in you! You are so sweet! Thanks for reminding me why I love to run, the arts and hearts of running. I think I'm too obsessed over training right now. What a great friend you are.

You're the coolest person in Payson and THE AWESOMEST friend in the world!!!!

Dale,

I predict that by SGM, you'll have more stamina and speed than me. You'll see. Thanks for the support.

Leslie,

Zombie was the name of the flexibility exercise I did yesterday. It's from the book "Brain Training". What a silly name.

I feel very fortunate to call you my dear friend. You have no idea how much you and the gang mean to me. We are bonded in the sisterhood of the running pants/shorts FOREVER!!!

No way can I be a pacer. First of all, no one would be able to see me, I'm a midget. Secondly, I have been known to take wrong turn in a race. Thirdly, I would annoy other runners with my constant yacking. Lastly, Larry would have a heart attack if I EVER have a job, no less a "career". He thinks I just play and never work (hehe)!

Hey, Larry turned in my registration for the Grand Slam today. That means I get to see you at all these races. I'm so excited. I really do miss you.

Rachel,

THANK YOU!!! You did SO SO SO AWESOME in your 20 miler today. I wish you were my pacer today. I'm so lucky to have met you. Have a great time on your cruise.

Nice run Smooth. My legs are a bit tired right now as well so I know how you feel. I am right around your weekly milage right now (56 this week). I think I will do a long week next week and then take an easy week the week after. You are doing so great with your training. Keep it up, only 7 weeks to go!!

From Teena on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 22:01:06 from 67.177.20.13

What a FANTASTIC month Smoothie Q!!! You are running so strong.

So, the Grand Slam again, huh? You crazy woman!!

I love you!

Take care of your body and have a very restful Sunday.

(btw, nice job picking up the pace the last three miles!! You're such a diehard!! LLL LLL LLL)

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 22:04:01 from 71.36.68.40

Rhett,

You're looking strong in your training. I'm debating whether to do a 20 miler or a 17 with 14 @ marathon pace next week. The week after, I have Spectrum 10k (3/14) so that will be a step back week. Here comes March Madness; then two weeks taper madness in April...7 weeks to go...WooHoo!

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 22:11:21 from 71.36.68.40

Another Grand Slam? You continue to amaze me. Nice long run by the way. Hey, 7 weeks until Boston. I might just be reminding you every week, so just get used to it.

I missed you this last weekend. I needed some good laughs. We need to plan another long one with that group.

From Kathie on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 14:20:14 from 207.155.176.10

Great miles Smooth and the slam again... are you going to do it this year with or without charlie horse as your running mate?

From Smooth on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 17:25:03 from 71.36.68.40

Teena,

Can't wait to hear how things went at TOSH. I fasted for you & Jeannie & my kids. Hope you had a great Sunday. I LOVE YOU!

Jon,

Right back at ya. Can't wait to see you and Kelly at Spectrum.

Amber,

You're so right! How'd you know my hubby so well. Here's the funny thing...when I asked him if he made sure I was registered...he said: "Sorry honey, they said it's all SOLD OUT." That guy doesn't even know how to lie. :)

Mark,

You meant to say 60 x 60. Hate to disappoint ya, but it ain't gonna happen.

Bec,

You can keep right on bugging me about how many days 'till Boston. I missed you too. I'm planning on another long run on the JRP this Sat. Huans32 is coming so far. If you're in town, we'd love to have you join us.

Kathie,

I hope charlie horse never ever comes around anywhere near me ever again!!!

From Teena on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 18:35:41 from 67.177.20.13

Hey Smoothie Q!!

As always, just hearing from you brightens my day. Just got back from my appt. It did not go as well as I had hoped. He wants me to see two other doctors. I already made an appt to see one of them tomorrow but am tempted to cancel it. He also tried to convince me to give up running and to cycle instead.

Don't know what to think about the whole thing.

I love you!!

(and no worries ... I am not going to let this get me down)

Oh yeah, he really didn't even address what I thought I had because he was convinced it was something else. But I just don't feel good about it. What to do?

LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

One more thing ... THANK YOU so much for being so good to me.

From Walter on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 13:19:57 from 76.27.13.75

Well I finally got to meet you! You are a riot to be around! I have seen you running the trails and my wife thought she saw you a lot last year running up by the capitol in the canyon and stuff. Keep up the great work.
