Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Day 3 of return to running after sf.  Walk 3 min, run 7 min with Karen and Wendy.  Temp mid 30s, sunny blue sky, calm, perfect running weather! :)

7.25 mi in 1:21:38.  AP: 11:25 (a 90 seconds improvement from two days ago, may be due to short on time and the longer run ratio)!!! :)  Not gonna worry about pace right now.  Nice to finally feel like a runner again, although stamina still lacking and a lot of work ahead.  No pain in the sf site, some tightness in the legs while sitting in the temple soon after the run, as expected!

Need to do some foam rolling and yoga tonight.

Today is International Women's Day which is celebrated in Russian, Europe and parts of Asia!  Happy IWDay to all you wonderful women out there! :) :) :) :)

A day to celebrate WOMEN??? How cool is that!?!

Glad the run/walk went well today. This is the most perfect weather for running! I must get outside this weekend!

No worries, you are one heck of a trained athlete. That stamina will be back faster than you think!!

I'm glad the foot is not hurting and that you are getting back into running.

Nice job, you're doing great. I knew you would come back fast and you are well on your way.

Smooth, I'm so glad to hear that there was no pain in the sf area. Good job slowly working back into it. You're doing it right!

I saw you out running/walking the other day on 3200 N. but I didn't realize it was you until I passed by (your hair is longer now). Scott had an ortho appt. w/ Dr. Fairbanks in Lehi, so we head up that way every now and again. Anyway, It was good to see you out running. I'm glad the foot isn't bothering you. Next time I'll stop and say hi!

From Toby on Fri, Mar 09, 2012 at 12:33:10 from 199.101.229.254

Hooray for you Smooth! Yesterday, while waiting for kids to come out of school, I was reading last month's Runner's World. There was an article about the mental side of injuries. It kept saying, "The body will heal itself - it may take a long time, but it will eventually heal" that is why it is marvelous. Great article!!

From Bec on Fri, Mar 09, 2012 at 12:47:19 from 68.206.133.141

:) Just beautiful Smooth. You will be at the start line of the Boston Marathon with your engine rearing to go!

Happy Women's Day!

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 09, 2012 at 17:12:19 from 174.27.219.252

Kelli ~ yep, 3/8 is Women's Day. When I lived in HK, women would get a day off from work, receive flowers and gifts! :)

Here in the US it's hardly noticed!

Why is it so easy to loose fitness and take at least twice as long to gain it back?

Nancy ~ I appreciate the ability to run more so now than ever! :)

Paul ~ lunch was super duper awesome! Thank you for setting it up! It was SO GOOD to see you today! :)

SSF ~ thanks!

Dale ~ It was great to see you today! :)

Chad ~ How's the ankle doing?

Rhett ~ thanks! I hope I'm doing it right! There is so much self doubt and uncertainty of how much and how soon. But one thing I've learned is that I will never take the ability to run for granted.

Kirsten ~ Was I running with Karen (who has a dog) and Wendy? Wish I'd known! :) Be sure to say hi next time you bring Scott up this way! Yes, I have grown a pony tail now!

Toby ~ thanks for the kind words! Yes, our body is a marvelous thing, it heals itself...sorta gives us a glimpse of what resurrection is gonna be like. I will go read that article now!

Bec ~ Not sure about engine rearing. Not sure if there's even any engine to speak of, hahaha! I will go and enjoy all that Boston has to offer. Rhett ran Boston one year with a camera in hand and loved every min of it. I may do the same...it might take me 6 hours...poor Larry! :)
