Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day Eve!!!

Storm 'sposed to come tomorrow; so decided to do Sat's run today.  T was 22F with partly sunny sky.  Did the 2 hills first for seven miles, down 3rdW, up 3rdW, down 26thN, up 12thW.  The pain on left knee (at 4 o'clock) that I felt on Wed's run came back at mile 4.5 after cresting the hill.  So I took it easy on the downhill.  By mile 7 it went away.  Felt a little tired today.  Wheezed some on the last uphill.

Had two dog encounters today.  First one was at Pheasant Pointe condos (mile 5.5) where two dogs (a beagle and a grey mutt) were roaming.  The beagle was a good dog, the scragly grey mutt barked and chased me.  I ran like a mad woman yelling "GO HOME" and kicking and clapping my gloved hands.  He finally got bored or tired and stopped chasing.  I don't have my cell-phone with me or I'd call someone.

The second encounter was at the Ivory Ridge condo (mile 12) out of nowhere a big black lab came charging at me.  I knew I couldn't outrun him.  I stopped running, turned to face him, made myself look brave and tall, with my loudest voice commanded him to GO HOME.  His tail was tucked under (what does that mean?) then he bared his teetch, growling and barking and was ready to lunge at me.  I froze and just then a car drove up distracted the dog and I heard a man calling "come here!"  I turned around and ran as fast as I could.  By then there were a few more cars coming towards me and I secretly hoped that the canine would get run over.

Drank gatorade at mile 3, 6, 10 and finish.  Ran past 4 schools today and thought about how much fun the kids must be having for their Valentines parties.

13 mi in 2:03:15.  AP: 9:28  Will do wk2 day3 of pushup challenge later and yoga tonight.

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm glad you were safe from that mean dog. Sounds like you handled the situation well. I want to see you make yourself look big and tall though. :):)

Way to adjust the schedule to beat the storm.

SMOOTH!

Way to run. I am so sorry about those lame dogs. I don't think the black lab was very happy with you. Sorry about the encounters.

Valentine's Day is always great at an elementary school. The schools you ran passed were full of sugar-high children, -trust me.- It was a mad house here today, but A LOT of fun!

Hopefully the weather will be kind to me in Utah Valley tomorrow.

From Kathie on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 16:38:17

This is not the same black lab from the other day? Oh that makes me so mad! Wasn't it BEMO who used to run with a fly swatter to hit the dogs with? I'm not sure it would work but it may surprise them enough that they would leave you alone.

Any way you were smart to get the run in today. I am going to play tomorrow by ear and see how bad the storm is before I decide how much I will do.

I recommend a cue ball in a tube sock to a flyswatter, but to each their own.

A taser might be kind of entertaining. Glad I'm not the only one secretly wanting those loose dogs to get run over.

Feel free to pull out those silk roses and think of all your friends on the blog!

Wow 2 encounters in 1 run. OUCH!!! I really hate dogs that chase and come after people. Glad you were able to fend them off. I will have to come run with you to scare them off. As long as you provide the fly swatter.:) Have a great Vday Smooth.

Way to get your run in and beat the storm! Good thinking! Happy Valentines day to you and Larry! You guys are such a cute couple!

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 18:33:50

Rhett,

I am certain that my spirit is MUCH MUCH taller than my body.

Bec,

I was actually thinking about you chasing 250 hyper kids today. I hope the storm wimper out in Utah Valley so you can have a great run tomorrow.

Kathie,

No, it's a different dog in a different neighborhood. I don't understand why people who live in condo own big dogs. My house sits on an acre. It's not fenced all the way so all the dogs pottie in my front yard. I really need to get me a dog. If I run around with a fly swatter, my neighbors would call the animal control on me. :)

AZdm,

Great idea.

Tarzan,

Where do you buy tazer? Can civilians buy tazer?

RivertonPaul,

Yes, I'm thinking my friends on the blog don't smell, are red and become dusty. ;)

Mark,

With your guns, we don't need any fly swatter. Happy VDay to you too.

Leslie,

Thank you. Our son is flying in from Chicago tomorrow. Larry and I are having dinner at the club; then we HAVE to stop by the Stake Vallentine's Dance Party to show support to the activity committee. He is NOT into dancing. I told him I would only go on a cruise with him IF he takes dance lessons. Now you know why we've NEVER been on a cruise.

Something about you just attracts dogs, huh?

Great run and so glad you did not have to be out in the slushy mess this morning!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!
