Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

 

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

No motivation to run today.  The weather was nice, 33F, cloudy, slight wind.  The legs were still tired but I went anyway.  The first 6 miles were on the two hills route and the last 5 miles were into a headwind.  Here are the things I learned: 

1)  A 24 week training cycle is a bit long to sustain the motivation.  I've been training for over 16 weeks, not counting the weeks before I got on the schedule.  I feel like I'm ready for taper; but I still have 7 more weeks to go.  

2)  63 mpw was my limit.  I should have stayed at 55 max.

3)  I need to have more easy or recovery days.

4)  Running with sadness is like running with a heavy heart which transfers to heavy legs.

11 miles in 1:51:49  AP: 10:09.  Tomorrow is a new day and I'm sure I will feel better.  I have already lost 4 of the 6 lbs I gained, a sign that my body is recovering to its homeostasis state and hopefully stronger.  Will do push up challenge tonight.

Smooth it sounds like you need a step down week. Even if it is not on the schedule you should take one. I discovered last year that 55 running miles per week was way to much for me that is why I cross train 16 miles per week and I get much better results.

Why are you sad? You really have been on a "running your guts out" schedule, I think slowing down and cutting your miles would be a good idea. You don't want to wear yourself out for Boston, cut back and you will be fresher and ready to go! Rest those little baby legs!!!

You learned a lot of good lessons. They are all things that you have to find out for yourself. There are always low moments during a training cycle. Just keep plugging along and you will start to feel better.

My legs move okay. This might sound silly, but I'm sad because Teena has been running with pain. I feel like I'm mourning. I will snap out of it.

Smooth, Smooth, Smooth! You are amazing, you have to remember that. We have about 7 1/2 weeks to go! You will be back to your old self in no time. Take the time you need to recover.

Smooth, you are human...I was starting to wonder. I'm a big supporter of the step back week. Did I see that right--14:00 hours of sleep? That sounds like my teenage daughter on a Saturday. Listen to your body, it knows best. You might need a few days off, to re-invigorate yourself. You know what's best for you.

Smooth, I'm so glad you're listening to yourself. Definately take a week...I'd rather run happy than being miserable during training and get a PR! Thats what running is all about...US and having fun. Give yourself a break and don't mourn it for one second! Hey, since you lost 4 pounds maybe you should go have some icecream or chocolate :)

I sure hope Teena gets feeling better soon, its hard to see such a great runner fall to an injury like this :(

Smooth, I'm impresses with how great a workout you had even with no motivation. I agree that 24 weeks is too long. I didn't start Boston training till after the new year and I hope I'm not peaking too early.

I too am sad for Teena. I hope and pray she is able to work things out so she can get back to running pain free.

I forgot to input my sleep hours on Monday. I function best with 8 hours sleep during high mileage weeks. I'm lucky to get 6 though. This past weekend I only averaged 4. Last year at Boston I did not sleep a wink for 72 hours before the race. I think I dozed off on that long long bus ride to Hopkinton. CRAZY!!!
