Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Oh I am with you smooth I just want to get all this candy out of my house right now! I hope a lot of kids come to my house because I know I will eat all the leftovers... where is my will power when I need it most! Maybe I should start to post my weight each day and then I would really have some modivation not to put my hand in the candy jar!

From huans32 on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 13:04:52

LOL well the good thing is. We know you will burn all the calories. It does sap your energy on those runs after eating all that sugar though. Just know its not you its just the candy you ate. But by the splits your still cruising. I know todays run is going to be hard since I had a few brownies last night LOL.

From Teena on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 15:28:45

Okay ... I know I am going to get chastised here, but I'm going to ask the question anyway:

Is candy really that bad for you if it has no trans fat?? Seriously ... our body breaks things down to sugar anyway. I know that there might be some bad times to eat candy (especially before bed, etc), but if you need the calories, what's wrong with a handful of zero fat swedish fat, jelly beans, candy corn, etc...

Alright, let me have it!! I'm ready.

From huans32 on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 15:54:02

Well try this Teena. Take and eat some junk food. And a bit of it not just you know a piece or two. But a full serving of it. And then in the morning try and run your best. Not just a mile or 2. You just have a hard time finishing the whole workout strong. Seems to just burn you out. I mostly noticed it in my spin classes. Since I wasnt taking it as serious. Just experiment with it and you tell us.

This tune keeps coming into my head: "O honey honey, doo doo doodedoo, O sugar sugar, doo doo doodedoo, you are my candy girl. I can't stop loving you."

As long as the sugar doesn't love me back, I'm all good to love it once in awhile. That's my take on candy.

It's the insulin spiking that we don't want. Even blood sugar in the system is best.

I do believe that junk fuel makes jumk performance. So...no packing junk in the trunk. And I don't consider a piece of nice DARK DARK chocolate junk, trans fat or not!!!

From Teena on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 16:18:39

What is your favorite kind of DARK DARK chocolate?

Here's how I see it ... there is no difference in a 100 calorie glass of Kool Aid or in 100 calories of zero fat candy. Sugar is sugar ... I'll choose the candy any day over the Kool Aid ... but probably have either!! Oh well!! If I want candy I'm eating it!!

From Smooth on Mon, Oct 27, 2008 at 16:27:31

GODIVA. Sinfully good. Then again by the first 3 letters of its name, can't be that sinful.

Dillard's, my favorite store, has them all over their counters.

Don't think anyone gives out Godiva Chocolate for Halloween though.

From JeffC on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 10:39:50

Why don't we just cancel all holday's from now until January 2.

From Rhett on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 11:43:54

I'll be out of the country for Halloween so I don't have to worry about that, but I think I have that same hangover you do. Is it contagious?

From Smooth on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 11:49:13

I WANT to be OUT of the country...as long as it's not on a cruise. There are plenty of "hangovers" on them cruise I heard. I loose all control when it comes to buffet. LOL.

From Rhett on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 12:49:13

My wife refuses to go on a cruise. She is for sure we will be on the one where everyone gets sick or the generators go out or some catastrophe.
