Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Normally I'd like to do a few speed intervals 10 days from race day.  But today was not normal.  I should have gotten out early when the snow was still pretty.  By the time I got back from taking my son to school, the snow plow had messed up the snow.

Plan B:  ran in the middle of the road when there's no car coming, ran back to the slush when there is/are.  Can I call that a slushy fartlek? I finally gave up after 4.4 miles of dudging traffic and slush puddles; not to mention what the "neighbors" would say about me.

Plan C:  got home, jumped on the treadmill and played with pre-programed #9 where the machine automatically power incline from 3 to 10 every 3 minutes.  I didn't like the pre-programmed speeds.  I want to run these inclines between 6 to 7 mph.  So after changing the speeds a few times; whala it automatically kept the speed at 6.5 while the incline increased.  I was able to sustain 7mph at incline 7 for 3 min. and 6mph at incline 10 for 2 min.  It wasn't pretty but it's still hill workout, isn't it?

4.4 slushy miles at 44:15.  AP: 10:10

6 treamill miles with 4 miles of major hill climbs in 58:15

I was so pooped I ate one very small and yummy keylime cookie and one English scone with cranberries, drank 1000cc water.

Smooth...What an amazing run considering that you don't feel well. Get some rest tomorrow.

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 07, 2009 at 23:56:10

Teena,

What ya talking about? You are running so awesome and so FAST!!! I could never race you, no way, no how!

You know...you're gonna start at Wave 1 (30 mins ahead of Wave 2) and a few corrals ahead of me. You'll be the ONE looking for me and waiting for eternity for me to come in.

Love you...we better get tough, eh?

Leslie,

You are doing that 6/week goal challenge. You're the role model here.

Dale,

Thanks! I'm feeling real icky right now.:( May be I shouldn't have run so hard today. I need to get rid of this cold fast so I can do Painter's in 10 days. How's your sinus infection?

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 02:31:21

Smooth...

My sinus infection is gone and now all I have is a slight cough late at night. Not too bad, knock on wood. Get better.

Dale

What a run! I do not like to incline on the treadmill...I'm a wimp and always set it to 1.0! You are tough!

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 13:21:26

I hope you are feeling better today! Great work-out, all of them! It was so nice here, and the plows were out in full force trying to get rid of all the melted snow and salting the stuck stuff. Hopefully it will eventually all be gone so we will have a shoulder to run on again (then it will snow again, stupid Utah snow!)

Have a great day speedy woman!

Nice workout! WOW!! What is your goal for PAinters?

From Teena on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 22:55:22

How are you feeling today SmoothieQ?

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 23:02:45

Dale,

I'm happy to know you're feeling better.

Becca,

I prefer real hills than treadmill incline. My forms are terrible on treadmill.

Kelli,

Feeling worse today. I need to find another alternative running route besides the nasty road and boring treadmill.

Marion,

Painter's a tune-up race. I hope to squeak by under 2 hrs.

Teena,

I felt icky today. I just hope I didn't spread it to others at all the meetings I went to.

From Teena on Thu, Jan 08, 2009 at 23:09:24

SmoothieQ,

I am so sorry that you aren't feeling well. What is up with everyone catching colds. Please take care of yourself the way you take care of others. I love you. (Can I bring YOU some soup and Kneaders bread?)

FYI, just got back from the hospital and Jeanie looked awesome. She is doing so much better (she still is sedated) and it looks like she is going to fight her way through this. Only bad news today was her hands. They look so bad Smooth. Her fingers look like the were put in a fire. They are charcoal black and shriveled. It looks like if you touched them they would turn into ashes. The put botox in the places they thought might be salvagable. Not exactly sure why. It looks like they will have to amputate each finger at least from the middle knuckle. Everything else, however, seems to be improving.
