Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Plan was to meet my running buddies at 6:30.  John and Wendy slept thru their alarm. :) Karen was punctual even though she was up late from going to "Wicket".  Anyhow, it was almost 7 by the time we got going.

Karen and I ran up to Alpine.  About 3.5 miles into the run, saw a cute happy smiling girl running westbound on the other side of the road.   I yelled at her back after she's already over 100m away:  "Is that you Carina?"  Always make me happy to have a Carina-sighting!  :)

At the Alpine park while Karen used the restroom, I drank from the ever-flowing fountain and ate some gel-chews.  Then we head south to North County Rd and turned east on SR92 to the mouth of AF Canyon where we jumped on the golf course trail west to Lone Peak HS to Van Dyke Park (refill water bottle and ate remaining of the chews) south to 700 N to 200 E AF.  Thought about Toby and her special day of her triplets' baptism.  Then we continued westward back to Lehi via Cedar Hollow.  We walked the steepest parts of Center St. (mile 17).  I commented that this is what Deer Valley loop (also mile 17) is going to feel like in two weeks.  Karen replied:  "The thought of running Park City right now sounds awful to me!"  Yep, it is going to be a death march for me.  Once we reached 2600N.  I was done running, but we weren't done talking; so we walked to Karen's where I got some ice water.  It was so hot that Karen refused to let me walk home so she drove me back in her daughter's convertible that she just got done washing/cleaning! :)

I would not have been able to finish this 19 miler without Karen.  (We ran thru 5 cities: Lehi, Alpine, Cedar Hills, Highland, American Fork).  I talked her ears off.  It was a slow painful run with an embarrassingly AP of 11:26 for 18 miles (turned off the Garmin during the last walking mile).  Good thing Karen didn't have her Garmin or she'd be aghast at how slow we were.  Average heart rate 158 with the last 3 miles reaching above 160.   I must've been a bit dehydrated...did not go to the bathroom until 3pm and the color was pretty dark.   There was noticeable salt residue on my shirt.  Left quad and lower legs very sore.  Right foot achy but not painful.

I love that Alpine park. It's exactly 5 miles from my house, so if I decide to do 10 miles it's the perfect water/potty stop.

BUT you are out there! Who cares how fast/slow you are going?!? We are out there getting it done. I'm glad you had amazing Karen with you and that you got the good chatty miles in! SO worth it! Drink more...or I'll go Helga on you! :)

Wow, I'm surprised that you are already up to 19 miles. I hope the foot is feeling okay. I would be thrilled if I could run 18 mikes at that pace. Nice job.

Nice long run Smooth. You're going to do great in Park City.

catherine ~ Alpine park is 5.15 from my house! It is a perfect water/pit stop for a 10 miler! AND I love the rolling hills along the route! :)

RAD ~ I'm carrying water on my daily run now. It's like I am learning to run and everything associates with it ALL OVER AGAIN! Sigh!

Carina ~ I'm so blind that if you didn't say hi, I would've missed it! THANKS for the smile and HiYah!!!

PAUL!!!!!! So good to have you "drop" by! How are you? Miss you lots!

Nancy ~ my runner/podiatrist/son was surprised that I'm up to 19 miles already in 4 weeks time. He thinks it is too much too soon. He is right. I am thinking it might've been a foolish thing.

Rhett ~ Thanks! But after tonight's talk with Eric, I'm having second thought about running Park City. :(

From Rhett on Tue, Aug 07, 2012 at 21:00:05 from 74.47.111.139

Smooth, you should totally follow Eric's advice. He is an expert in feet.

From Maynard on Tue, Aug 07, 2012 at 21:24:00 from 71.213.4.121

Good run, Smooth. Is Karen running the Park City Marathon?

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 07, 2012 at 21:35:01 from 71.219.147.142

Rhett ~ I know! He is really worried. My latest tachycardia episode is another indication that I am not letting my body recover enough.

Maynard ~ She hasn't signed up. I'm not sure if she's running it. You?

From Maynard on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 16:34:07 from 159.212.71.69

I did sign up. I may be running along side you and Rachel.

From Smooth on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 16:37:59 from 71.219.147.142

WAHOOO!!!! I'm so excited to see you! Ummm, you will be running alongside me for the first 100m or so! :) You did so AWESOME at the SoGo which is a perfect perfect prep for PC!!! See you in 10 days, my friend! :) :) :)
