Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Ran up Suncrest.  First time running with an ipod (my hubby's).  Had to stop a couple of times to figure how to use that thing.  I think I need to have my own music next time.  I focused on running form on the down hill and just tore it up.  Kept waiting for the wheels to fall off; it never did.

13.1 miles in 2:09:38.  Here are the splits for future reference: 10:20, 9:46, 10:04, 11:35, 11:30, 11:29, 10:32, 9:03, 8:48, 8:02, 8:28, 8:54, 8:46, last 0.1 mi @ 8:06.  Two weeks ago I ran this in 2:19:45.

AWESOME RUN!!! You shaved off 10 whole minutes!!! I am sure glad your wheels didn't fall off!!!

I enjoy my ipod when I am running alone, it covers up my heavy breathing!!

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:25:49

Leslie,

Thanks. I was feeling a bit sad over Teena's post. I thought may be having some music to listen to would help. My hubby's choice of music is so different from mine. But it did help cover up my heavy breathing, especially when I was huffing up that mountain.

From TylerS on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:25:59

Great job Smooth. That is a huge PR for 13 miles. Keep up the good work.

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 16:39:50

Tyler, THANKS. Not sure how that PR happened. But I'll take it.

For those of you who do not know, Smooth is running UP a mountain!!! Those are awesome splits for that type of a run, and shaving 10 minutes of is amazing!!!

From Rachel on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 17:52:56

WOW!! How awesome are you?!? I don't think I could make those 'up' splits. With long legs I might be able to keep up on the downhill, but that 8:02 is kicking it!! I'm so excited that you're coming on Sat to Lehi. I'll try to keep up with you :) and chat about your marathon training.

From kellies on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 01:12:38

Wow 10 mins PR and the wheels didnt fall off. LOOK OUT BOSTON!!!! Leave charle at home. And look at that one mile just a tiny bit over 8. You were flying!!

From Teena on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 10:41:59

10 minutes faster in two weeks!! That's better than chocolate covered marshmellow bears!! Hope you felt incredible all day plus some.

Btw, got a very funny email from Lowell concerning your conversation with him about who needs to be my mother!! :) :) :) Have to tell you that it made my night. I was so exhausted and frustrated after class and the details (or at least some of the details) he included in his email cheered me right up! You two are my angels. I LOVE YOU more than you will ever know.

From Bec on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 10:45:02

WOW girl! I need to take running lessons from you.

From Rhett on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 14:09:07

Smooth, did you imagine yourself running down the back side of Heart Break hill, descending into Boston victoriously? I do that sometimes. I seem to run faster when I do things like that. Great run.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 05, 2009 at 15:43:38

Marion, you're so cute. I am woman! I wonder about the wonder part.

Kelli, it was YOUR hill workout the day before that inspired me.

Rachel, you already ran faster UP splits than me. I want some of your long legs.

Kellies, thanks for the kudos. I think you are ESPECIALLY AWESOME!

Mark, I want Charlie out of my life for good forever especially at Boston.

Teena, I felt like a tell-ta-tailer (sp) but more like a helpless mother when I shared my worries about you with Lowell. I know he has a way to deal with you that I can't. What did he say? Did you get my email?

Bec, you can teach me a thing or two about running when we do our 20 miler together. It's gonna be so fun.

Rhett, I didn't do it on this run; but I have in other runs and yes it's hard to describe that rush unless you've experienced it. When that finish line came into view after making the last left turn into Boylston, it was like floating on the clouds of runners' heaven, the most incredible joy took over my body. I need to picture that more often on my training runs.
