Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Schedule calls for "general aerobic + speed: 9 mi w/ 10 x 100 m strides".  I really don't know how to do that; so I decided to make it a tempo run.  T. was 29, blue sky.  Ran west and down 3rd W hill, a 2 mile gradual descend of 200' and back up; then did 6 miles tempo on the rolling bench (north to Bull River, west to 1600 W, east to Smith's, south via Utah Highland Dr.).  Legs felt great the entire run.  Getting better at thinking about form and not get lazy.

10 miles in 1:27:52.  AP: 8:47  Splits: 9:07, 8:50, 9:09, 9:27, 8:54, 8:41, 8;25, 8:22, 8:33 8:21.

Think I'll try some of those exercises in the Feb RW later and the pushup challenge this evening.

From tarzan on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 16:10:01

Is the pushup challenge in that issue of RW?

Great run Smooth! Sounds like you recovered well from Saturday.

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 16:15:33

Leslie & Maurine, THANK YOU! You guys are always so positive.

The pushup challenge is found on a program from www.hundredpushup.com Kathie from this blog posted it last week and we're taking up the challenge. Today starts week one. I think the "challenge" is 6 weeks long; and you're supposed to be able to do 100 pushups at the end of 6 weeks.

From Bec on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 16:21:29

Smooth,

Great run! The pushup challenge is amazing, I have done it before. It is kinda strange how you really can do 100 pushups by the end.

Next time you run a 20 miler please let me know if you like company. My 15 felt really LONG last weekend. Maybe it's the vast country side in Vernal. It just goes on and on forever.

From Kathie on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 16:29:01

Your last few miles were really fast and pretty consistent too!

I know when I followed the training plan that you are using (Pfitzinger) I would never really know what I was suppose to be doing. That Is why I used it and Hal Higdon's and created one of my own that suits me.

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 16:40:24

Bec,

WOW, you must be posting when I posted on your blog. OK, I'm game next time you're in town. I love to have your company. You can push me a bit too.

Kathie,

That's what I had to do, go back and forth between Higdon's and Pfifz's so it makes sense to me. It'd be nice to have a personal coach to tell us what we're doing right and push us to our potential without getting injured.

From Amber on Mon, Feb 02, 2009 at 23:51:43

You DO seem like a cute little energizer bunny! I want to join you on that push up challenge. I've been thinking lately how I want to be able to do more than 3 at at time :) ha ha ha, actually I did 10 this morning, but 100? I'll have to give it a try! THanks for the info!
