Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Should have gone out early when it was calm.  By 8 am, it was cloudy, T in the low 40's, no problem..., but the WIND.  Holy Toleedo, I don't know what the wind knots or whatever you call the measurement...it must have been howling at 50 mph from the north.  For every 3 steps forward I was blown back one step.  I didn't have my sunglasses or beanie on.  I'm still trying to get sand/dirt out of all the oracles on my face: nose, ears, eyes, mouth, eck!!  Now I know what my sons in Iowa and Chicago face when they train in their windy "tornado alleys".

I had planned to run a progressive 6 miler.  It didn't happen.  I'm sure the "running head-on into an invisible wall" and the "trying to run straight with the sideway pushing cross wind" was equivalent effort to a fartlek workout.

5.25 miles in 47:50  Average pace 9:06  Splits: 9:23, 9:05, 9:08, 9:45 (slight uphill into a fierce northly headwind) 8:15 (aided by tailwind), 8:44.

Oh ya look at that tailwind. WOOT see you can run fast. We just need a good tailwind and a good downhill for 26.2 and we will catch those elites for sure. Good job on getting it done though. Its good to pratice in weather like that so no matter what the race day brings your ready. Sounded like SLC marathon this yr.

Mark,

You are too funny. No amount of tail wind would help me catch anybody in any race.

You are so right about practice in any kinda weather. Spring marathons are so unpredictable.

Nice run Smooth. I hate the wind worse than anything. You toughed it out though. Good job.

That wind on my run wasnt your normal wind either. It was that cold chilly wind. That Ogden race shirt didnt help much at all. I could only imagine what you were dealing with. And the Fall ones seen unpredictable too as we saw at SG

Smooth --

Wow, what an awesome run in that wind!! Man oh man. Each time I run in the wind I think about Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump during the big storm at sea.

You are a diehard sweet Smooth -- whether you like it or not!! :)

Love you.

Mark --

I was wearing my Ogden long sleeve shirt too!!! I wish I had something to cover my ears though. I had gloves on and would use one hand to cover the ear exposed to the howling cold wind. I thought for sure I was going to get a headache or ear-ache. Must be the running at SGM's rain/wind/chill that "toughened" me up, you think?

Teena -

Lieutenant Dan is a diehard. You the Gumper is a diehard.

I, do NOT want to die!!! No way jose, HARD or easy!!! :)

I love you, little Ms Speedy, Bullet Babe, you!!!!
