Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Slept like a baby!!!  I don't know why especially after hubby told me our stocks just tanked.  Must be all that good feeling from watching the Presidential Inauguration.  I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!!  I'm so proud to be an American!!!

I needed to seek higher ground, above this muck.  Put on fuel belt with four flasks of gatorade and headed up to SunCrest.  It's 6.55 miles of ascent from 4,800' to 6,040'.  I think the last time I ran up SunCrest was on July 12.  It took me 2:19:30.  Have never run this in the Winter.  It should be fun.

I kept my effort steady.  Sure hope the air I was sucking up was okay.  At about mile 4 I turned my head to look down at Utah County, couldn't see a thing with that thick layer of smog.  When I got to the top, it was warmer with a slight wind.  It felt so good to breath deep and enjoy the sun.  Looking down at the valleys on both counties was like looking from an airplane above the clouds.  Except the "clouds" is really a thick blanket of smog.  Running back down was exhillerating, just me and the brush oak, with the majestic views of snow covered Lone Peak and Mt. Timpanogos against a clear blue sky.

Took gatorade at mile 3, 6, 9 and finish.  Today's run's time:  2:19:45.  This surprised me.  I thought I was running alot slower.  It's essentially the same as 6 months ago since today I waited at the traffic light crossing SR 92 without stopping the Garmin.  I'll do this run again and see if my time improves.  Great hill training run.

great run smooth I am glad you could get out of the pollution even for just a few minutes.

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 16:14:26

Kathie, if I didn't have to train, I'd be skiing to get the fresh air. Hope sucking up this gunk is not gonna give me lung cancer. LOL ;)

From leslie on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 17:31:54

Sounds like a real grunter going up to Suncrest, but I am sure the blue skys made it all worth it! You are an animal, a teeny tiny little animal! Nothing is stopping you!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 17:53:19

Leslie,

Yep, it's a grunter! I was grunting and spitting going up. There was enough elevation gain that my ears were even plucked up.

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 18:15:17

Wow Smooth!!! What an inpsiring run you had. You are simply amazing. Here we are still recovering from the race last weekend and you're running up mountains for another half marathon. I'm jealous!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 18:42:01

Thanks Dale, I feel lucky to be living here where I can find varieties which is the spice of life, don't you think?

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 20:14:21

Yes, Smooth, I do agree. I sure wish I lived next to the mountains. I live not too far, but it still takes about 15 or 20 minutes to get there. Keep up the good work.

LOVE THE PIC SMOOTH!!

Man, you are getting in a lot of miles this week. AWESOME.

Very impressive run. LLL

From Bec on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:29:13

Smooth, this is Becca. What an amazing run!! I have ran up to Suncrest before and I know how hard that route is. You inspire me to run some good uphill stuff. You already have a ton of miles this week too. Good for you.

I love your new picture.

From leslie on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:33:29

Hey, you changed your picture!! It is SO SO CUTE!!

From JeffC on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:07:36

What a nice run Smooth. I'm sure grateful to live in windy Vegas where our dust and smog "usually" just blow away.

From Amber on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:42:17

Hey,:) You seem like such an awesome runner and sweet person! I ran Painters this last weekend too and saw your blog about it. Looks like you have a fun group of supporters! Good luck w/ training for Boston, do you mind if I add you to my page and I'll check in on you? You are a great motivation, especially for only starting 3 yrs ago!

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:04:57

Teena!!!

This week starts the mesocycle 2 of lactace threshold + endurance. So yeah, a big jump on mileage. I just hope to be able to get in a long run this Sat which is going to be hard with our R.S. Stake Women's Conference and service projects. LLL LLL LLL LLL

Kathie, and Leslie,

I "stole" it from Zazoosh as you all can tell. But I am going to purchase one so may be it's not totally stealing? Hope Sasha doesn't kick me off the blog.

Becca,

I am so HAPPY you got on the blog and "found" me. How's your training going? Have you gotten tickets or hotel reservation for Boston yet? Are there hills where you're at? Let's do some hills together next time you're in town. LOVE YOU!!!

Jeff,

You do have nice "winter" weather. But I won't be envying you come summer. I really don't mind the different climes we get here. It's never boring, that's for sure.

Amber,

HELLO!!! THANKS for the kind words. Looks like you're a VERY AWESOME runner with cute boys. Please do check in on me and be my "slack patrol". I need all the help I can get. Going over to your blog now.

From Bec on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 15:36:53

Smooth,

My family is still making the flight arrangements for Boston. Hopefully by the end of the week everything will be set in stone. I can't believe there is less than 13 weeks until the race!

There are a few hills out here, I like running in Lehi more though :). Out here you can run on the same road FOREVER! (out in the middle of nowhere) Love you too!

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 16:41:31

Becca,

That's good to hear your family is taking care of travel arrangements. Yep, Boston will be here before we know it. I am so excited. You're gonna love it and have so much fun.

It's been a long time since I've been to Vernal. All I remember was the dinosaurs museum.

Do you have a race coming up before Boston?

From Bec on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 17:19:03

I was maybe planning to run the Provo City Half. I don't really know of any that are going on. Which one would you suggest?

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 18:17:51

That is awesome!!! Aren't you pretty much running uphill? WOW!

This air really stinks and hurts my eyes and throat. I have never seen anything like it!

A week ago we received our stock stuff from Edward Jones and we lost over half of our $$ this last year. I am trying not to panic and freak out, but it is hard! I wish that news had made me sleep like a baby.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 18:51:20

Becca,

I'm doing the runner series so I can get guaranteed entry to SG. It might be a bit much for driving for you. I'm trying to decide whether to run Dam 2 Dam on Feb 14 (also President Day weekend) or Spectrum 10K Mar 14. There are some races in the Ogden area too. When is Provo City Half? There's a Draper City Half that some of the bloggers are running. Kelli, help me out on this one.

Kelli,

Yes, It is all uphill then straight back down. I sleep better if I've run during the day...may be the run made me pooped out. Otherwise I lay there and my mind just go crazy.

From Marion on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 00:11:10

I love your new picture. You are so cute! You need some pink thought :) I emailed Steve Hooper about getting some FRB gear in pink :)

That run sounds wonderful. I need to find out how far I can get up our canyon. I wonder if I can get far enough up to be out of the smog.

Sorry about the stock :(

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 11:10:18

Marion,

I do need pink running stuff. I have "other" pink stuff. I'll have to see if Steve H. listens to you.

We need FRESH AIR, and need it NOW!

The stupid stock market just means hubby has to work longer and harder; and I get to run more. :)
