Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

The left tendon is still bothering me.  It hurts bad enough that I aborted the run 0.3 mile into what was supposed to be an 11 miler.  Did all four phases core conditioning exercises and the dynamic flexibility warm up from Brain Training.  That seemed to help, so I got on the treadmill and ran 6 miles at easy pace.  Tendon pain was 4/5 at the start, 2/5 during the run, 1/5 immediately after while I did the stretches from Brain Training and AM/PM Yoga.

6 miles in 54:24.  AP: 9:03

Did the pushup challenge last night: Wk 6 Day 1 Column 2: 40, 50, 25, 25, (52) not pretty!

Oh I hope you get those sore things under control.

You can out do me in pushups!

I'm excited for Spectrum. Anyone else going?

From jun on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:18:11 from 66.239.250.209

Reading your post just made me feel guilty for the three cookies I just ate.

And the 5 cookie dough spoonfuls I ate last night.

I think my eating habits negate any positive strides I make for my body while running.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:25:26 from 71.36.65.79

Jon,

Yep, sore things are no fun. Have you ever tried the hundredpushup challenge? I can't believe I'm doing it. Hubby doesn't believe I could do 5. I showed him.

I'm excited for Spectrum too. Yep, a bunch of us are going, Huans32, MissFIT, DonGardinero, AmberG are the ones I know of so far. I have some friends coming too. I'm doing it to finish up the series for SGM entry.

From DonGardinero on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:28:12 from 75.162.168.235

Smooth, I hope that tendon starts feeling better. I loosened my shoes laces today and they felt a lot better. Can't wait for Saturday.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:35:40 from 71.36.65.79

Jun,

I LOVE cookies. With all your climbing and trail running, you can eat the whole bowl of cookie dough. No worries, happy eating!

Dale,

I'm glad you laced your shoes just right. Spectrum will be so fun. What are you shooting for?

From DonGardinero on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:44:09 from 75.162.168.235

That's a good question, Smooth. Originally, I was going to go all-out, but now I'm afraid I'll mess up my training for Ogden so I'm just going to enjoy the race and maybe come in just under an hour. No sense in killing myself. But you never know, I might change my mind the morning of the race. We'll see how I feel that morning. How about you?

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 17:46:53 from 71.36.65.79

Dale,

You should run it fast. It won't hurt you. But of course, you gotta see how the body feel on race morning too. I was hoping for sub-50; but with the tendonitis, I'm gonna take it easy.

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 18:40:03 from 71.219.87.34

WOW, they may not be pretty push ups, but that is amazing! I am bagging it altogether and doing my own thing! I just can not do that challenge for some dumb reason. It must be my independent mind!

Sorry about the pain, I hope it all gets figured out soon. You are doing a 10k this weekend, right?

I am game to run the Riverton 1/2 course if you still want to. I think if I do it slow I should be okay! I did get your PM and I replied, so let me know on that one, too!

From DonGardinero on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 20:07:01 from 152.216.7.5

Smooth...Wouldn't that be sweet to run a sub 50:00 10k? I was wondering if I should make it my speed workout for the week. Run it like speed intervals. You're right, I better wait and see how I feel race morning.

From MarcE on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 21:24:09 from 206.225.68.10

Oh Smooth..sorry to here about the tendon. That's encouraging that the easy treadmill, and followup stretching made it feel better. Have a safe race this weekend. I can't wait to hear all the reports. 10Ks are a fun distance.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 10, 2009 at 21:51:28 from 71.36.65.79

Kelli,

I'm thinking it might not be a good idea to run that many miles 3 days before Moab, especially if you're trying to PR there. May be we should run it on Monday 3/16 instead. That would give you a little more wiggle room. I'm assuming you're busy on Tue & Thu with the BBK and you're not running a 20 miler this Sat. Let me know what works best for you.

Yes, I'm running the Spectrum 10K this Sat.

From Bec on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 10:28:07 from 205.123.38.98

Smooth,

Get some ice on that tendon. Let's just pray that it's one of those pains that will go away in a few days. Baby it, cross train if you have to!

From Kelli on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 22:50:09 from 71.219.87.34

I could skip the BBK running group on Tuesday if you want to do that (or I could go and just do 5-6 miles, I am fine to run several times in a row, I am relay trained!) Really, I am not looking for a PR, right now I just need to run becasue I am eating enough sugar to fuel a small vehicle.
