Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Tried out the "Never Get Hurt Exercise Plan" (p.53-57 March RW).  The Inverted Bridge was hard.  I need to work on Drive Through.  Then went out for an EZ recovery run.  I tried to focus on engaging the core muscles and pay attention to the "posture points" mentioned in the article.  Run was relaxed with last mile picked up to marathon pace.

7 miles in 1:04:28.  AP: 9:12

Last night I did the Day 1 of the hundred push up challenge; on the 5th set I was able to do 19 push ups.  All push ups were done regular non-girlie way.

Great job Smooth. I need to go pick up the new issue of RW.

You earned you recovery run with that tough, fast run yesterday. Great job! I'm smelling a Boston PR for you.

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 03, 2009 at 15:09:40

Dale, you can get a subscription of 12 issues for $12 now. That will make a nice birthday present year round.

Thanks Rhett, I hope you have great olfactory nerve.:)

19 on the 5th set???? Holy crud, you are amazing!!!! I want to be like you. I eeked out 14, but that was it.

I saw that exercise plan in RW, but it looked like way too much work for me ;-)

Have a fabulous day!

Holy Cow! I want some tickets to that gun show. I need to get RW so that I can understand all that running jargon. Anything that makes running easier and more enjoyable is worth a try! Awesome running and 'pushing up'!

From leslie on Tue, Feb 03, 2009 at 20:03:42

19 non-girly pushups is HUGE!! You are doing so great!

From Amber on Tue, Feb 03, 2009 at 21:42:34

Great Job on the push-ups! Wonder Woman!! I hate push-ups, , , but THANK YOU for the link, I did get it to work so I think I"ll start it tomorrow! Yeah! :)

From Kathie on Wed, Feb 04, 2009 at 00:52:20

Way to go on the push-ups! I am so glad this is a challenge and not a contest (you would kick my fanny!)

I have not read that article in Runners world yet (I have to read the Ensign first and then RW is my reward)
