Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Week 7 of SGM, 5 days 'till PCM, 3 days 'till school starts!

Slept in this morning.  Temp was still cool at 7:30.  Ran the canal trail at easy pace, average 9:27.  Wore the Nexus2 to see how it handles trail and whether to wear them at PCM.   A small blister started to form.  It didn't seem to have as much stability.  So... think I'll wear one of the Inspire4 even though they have over 300 miles.  Left ITB and quads started to ache at mile 3.  Will need to stretch, foam roll and ice today.  Will take the rest of the week easy.

Have a great week everyone!

Yes - make sure to take it easy this week, even though PC is going to be a long run. I am starting early with Leslie, so make sure you say hi as you pass. I will have my camera with and want to get your picture.

From Kathie on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 12:48:12 from 207.155.176.10

Good luck this weekend...I can't wait to read your race report.

From Kimmy on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 12:53:56 from 65.48.64.14

Good luck Smooth at PC...I will send a good running vibe your way

From Rhett on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 12:54:36 from 74.41.249.102

What pace are you planning on running PC? Enjoy the easy week leading up to the race. I can't believe SGM is so close.

From Jon A on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 12:57:47 from 67.214.249.195

Good run Smooth, hope that ITB starts to feel better! Take care of it!

Maurine,

I can't wait to see you and Leslie! It might take me 'till the end to catch up with you. By then I'll look like death warmed over. :)

Kathie,

THANKS! GOOD LUCK to you at Hobble Creek!

Kimmy,

THANKS! Wish I could be at Hobble Creek to cheer you and Kathie on! Guess I'll have to wait till Spanish to see you. That reminds me I'd better send in the registration.

Rhett,

PC will be a long long training run. I have to go in with the right attitude. The first 18 miles are mostly uphill. I will need to be patient, probably running them in the 10's. I will be happy to just finish strong...unlike last year's disasterous finish.

From DonGardinero on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 13:14:40 from 75.162.100.126

Yes, take it easy this week. I'll be sure to look for you before the race, along the course and after the race.

Nice run today. Take it nice and easy this week, I will see you on Saturday. Yes, I will be "Bandit Bec."

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 17:47:31 from 71.219.64.200

Nice run, take care of your aches and pains. Why does running have to hurt so much???

I am glad you are counting down to St George, I though there were only 6 weeks! Now, if i can skip this week and next I will still have 5 weeks to try to get my stamina back up. All of my workouts 2 weeks ago were so WEAK it scares me!!!!

Have a great week!! School starts next Monday for me, yeah!!! I will only have on kid home with me. Whatever will I do with myself?

From Smooth on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 18:41:04 from 71.32.239.100

Les & Bandit Bec,

We have a cabin for the whole weekend. Please come party!

Kelli,

We need to have a "kids are in school party". 5 weeks is plenty of time to get back up to speed (pun intended). Be patient the next two weeks. Do SF1/2 with me and you will feel so speedy if not so tall! Seriously, no racing so you can toe the line at SGM healthy.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 18:42:53 from 71.219.64.200

I love feeling tall!

From RivertonPaul on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 21:35:42 from 75.169.27.126

Good luck this weekend, Smooth. Good idea to take it easy this week. Saturday will be a nice easy training run for you.

From Huans32 on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 08:32:16 from 138.64.2.76

Cant wait to hear how PC goes for you. You are such a great runner. And I am sure will beat last years time. Keep it nice and easy.

From MrsFIT on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 11:37:49 from 67.182.192.209

"Nice and easy" training run? Is that possible on the PC course? Stay strong!!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 11:52:22 from 63.255.172.2

I find Park City to be a great marathon for nice and easy. Other than altitude and that fun climb to the Deer Valley parking lot - it is a beautiful and relaxing marathon.

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 12:05:17 from 71.32.239.100

Paul,

THANKS! You're the one that's looking strong with all those mega miles at such awesome pace. Didn't even look like you ran DNews less than a month ago.

Mark,

I'm not looking to beat last year's time. Just finish w/o injury will be wonderful.

Kristi,

Staying strong is the tricky part.

Maurine,

THANKS for the positive prep talk. I agree it is a beautiful course, never boring with its various terrain and vista. I will try to remember your words about it being beautiful and relaxing. We will have fun no matter what.
