Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What a gorgeous day!  It would be so COOL and PERFECT if Boston's weather is just like today!!!  Wore the Inspire 3 to let the Inspire 4 rest.  I think I'll break out the new shoes this week.  Ran 2 miles for warm up, then ran 8 x 0.5 mile repeats with 0.2 mile recovery jog.  I'm happy that my "Yassos" were all under 4 min. (between 3:50-3:55); the recovery jogs averaged 2 min.   There were lotsa runners, joggers, walkers out this morning.  I "lapped" a lady from my ward twice and she gave a holler.  FUN!!!   Finish the run with 3.8 mile cool down up a gentle hill.

11.5 miles in 1:44:07.  AP: 9:03.  Splits: 9:31, 8:57, 8:04, 8:25, 8:35, 8:15, 9:10, 9:22, 10:05, 9:50, 9:18, 0.5 mi @ 8:56

From Clay on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 15:38:35 from 66.119.143.249

Nice job today Smooth. I loved your race report and I was the guy that said hi just before the last turn, you are an awesome runner.

Keep working hard.

From RivertonPaul on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 15:41:59 from 67.42.27.114

Nice run, as usual. Such a wonderful perspective on life.

From lesllie on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 15:42:26 from 76.23.61.78

Yes! Today is Gorgous!!!! Great run girl!!! Nice lapping the ward lady!!! I hope she was 20 years younger than you too!!!

From Burt on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 15:48:58 from 68.76.197.194

Well, if she was 20 years younger than her she wouldn't be a lady. She'd be like a 4-year old little girl.

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 16:00:38 from 71.36.65.79

Burt! You're too funny. Thanks for the compliment. That "lady" has a 2 year old; so yah I'm more than 20 years older than her...but who's counting!

Clay,

That sure was nice of you to say hello on the Spectrum run. You're so kind. I need to read your report. THANKS!

RivertonPaul,

I love checking out your blogs. It always brings a smile to me. Seriously, you must have a personal secretary who searches high and low for those funny/cool pics and stuff for ya.

Leslie,

Sounds like you're all better from the cold. Are you ready to "spring" into training?

From Marion on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 17:00:22 from 71.213.124.231

That was just too cool! You are little miss speedy pants! I wish we could make these temps last and last. They are the BEST! What an amazing workout my dear! Does Larry know how cool you are?

From DonGardinero on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 17:07:26 from 75.162.100.21

Another great run for you, Smooth. way to go.

From huans32 on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 17:08:53 from 138.64.2.76

Wow alot of good miles in there. Sounds like your recovering well. How does she do it.:)

From Kelli on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 18:59:39 from 71.219.76.202

I love your training---you must teach me!

You are awesome! Thanks for being you and keep up with your amazingness!!!

So, now that the push up challenge is over, what are you going to do to keep the muscles? 100 push ups a day???

From Kathie on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 20:00:13 from 207.155.176.10

It was a beautiful day! Your splits look so fast you are going to rock Boston!

From Smooth on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 21:28:46 from 71.36.65.79

Marion,

I told Larry I ran 8 Yassos today. He said: what's that? He doesn't know what speed work is either. That's why I blog 'cause y'all know what I'm talking about.

Dale,

THANKS! Gotta love a day like this.

Mark,

I didn't run yesterday, just core work so the legs got a nice rest.

Kelli,

I'm learning every day. I will do push ups on the day(s) I do core work. Not sure if I'll do 100 every time. May be once every 7-10 days.

Kathie,

Thanks! This week is monster week bebore Boston. I'm so ready for taper. I love running; but the training takes alot out of me. It's still fun though!

From Rhett on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 23:42:23 from 216.67.216.116

Great Yasso's! Are you going to do them again before Boston, but do all 10? If you can keep up that pace you are well on your way to another PR. I hope we have a beautiful day like that also. Did you see your bib # today? I'm so excited now that I have mine. I used it as inspiration on my run tonight.

From Bec on Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 12:24:57 from 205.123.38.98

What Boston apparel are you selecting? There are so many cute choices, and I don't know which one to pick. Do you know if we get a shirt or anything at the race?

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 18:18:38 from 71.36.65.79

Rhett,

That's the plan, I will increase 1 a week 'till I can do 10. Last year I did the last Yasso's workout 10 days out. I'm getting excited. My bib# improved from last year's. by 511, cool!

Bec,

I haven't had a chance to look at them yet. Last year I chose a short sleeve top (red) and matching shorts (black). Yes, they give you a tech shirt. I also bought the jacket (from Image). It's a very good quality jacket, very pricey but well worth the $$$. This year Image isn't making them; so I'll have to get one from Adidas.

Yes,, they give you a tech shirt as part of the packet. The have a dressing room for people to try on size. I like how they're gender specific. Look at my avatar on the left, that's the shirt they gave out. Rhett had his on in his avatar too. I love it. I wore it to races. People who have run Boston would recognize the unicorn logo (on my left upper chest).

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 18:22:34 from 71.36.65.79

Oh, I wore my Boston race outfit at Spectrum 10K this year. You can check out the "uniform" from my pics at Zazoosh.com. Adidas make good quality stuff, so you can't go wrong with any of them.

From Maurine/Tarzan on Sun, Mar 22, 2009 at 12:39:36 from 97.117.75.12

I am so amazed at your monster week. You are making me exhausted just reading about it. It makes me want to push hard to be able to qualify for Boston just once in my life.
