Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Woke up with sinus headache, sore throat and arthritis.  Snowing heavy outside.  Schedule calls for 5 recovery miles today.  What to do:  Treadmill again?  Brave the messy road?  Or curl up with ultramarathonman instead?  After checking in with Teena and Marion's positive blog which inspired me to not wimp out.  I once said:  "A good run cures everything, well almost everything."

Put on the sub-zero UA shirt, a light waterproof jacket, screwed shoes, sunglasses (wish Mr. sun was out) and the Polartec beanie Santa brought.  Wish I had an ipod shuffle... I would have some Beach Boys music.  Ya know running on snow reminds me of running on the beach.  I want to be in Hawaii right now!!! 

Instead of chasing waves (that's what I would do at the beach) I was blasted by cold icky slush of the passing cars (the drivers must be jealous).

Two discoveries:  1) I have duck's feet!!!  I saw my own footprints on the snow.  They flare out slightly at eleven and one o'clock.  2) Running in slush is easier than snow banks.  Yes, slush makes wet feet which was nothing compared to SGM08 prunes feet.  Snow banks are unpredictable, slippery and anti-forward.  Hmmm...perhaps I should ditch the screw shoes and invest in snow shoes or cross country skis.

Did the run cure anything?  Well, I wouldn't call it a good run.  Heck, could hardly call it a run.  It's a WORKout.  It did clear the thick goopie gunk from the sinus and the headache is easing up as well.  And the blisters felt better too.  So, all is well.

Will do some core work tonight.

***** No core workout!!!  Instead I shoveled 6" of snow, chiseled thick stubborn tire- treaded ice sheets off my 30' long driveway for three hours!!!  Guess what?  There's more snow, at least another 3" and growing on my driveway.  Arrrgghhh!!!  It's like doing laundry, it's never done!!!   My forearms are very sore.  Do we need strong forearms for running?  No?  Darn!*****

Nutrition:  oatmeal with banana, barley soup (again), 1 large juicy orange, 1 apple, handful of blueberries, 1 chicken drumstick, 1 chicken thigh, 1/2 a sweet potato, 1/4 C green beans, 1 caramel candy (from BeMo,  I was femished after shoveling snow and needed instant carb), 750 cc water.

Way to go Smooth. Glad you were able to get out there and run. I have a slight sinus infection, too. I'm hoping the antibiotic will take care of it.

Work is right! This is some crazy weather and the roads are a not so hot! I like your dressing detail. It feels like we are going out for combat some days. Slush is better!

Do you have your pink and red for Painters? Leslie and i decided that red and pink were going to be our theme colors! I found some gear on clearance- hot pink, I wonder why??? :) I am going to check the forcasted temps as soon as I click post :)

Yeah, combat is right! The thought of putting on my ski helmet crossed my mind when I slipped a few times. But then, my neighbors would definitely commit me to the nut house.

Red and pink? Sounds real fun and cute. The Sub-zero UnderArmour turtleneck I wore today is red. It's only good for Temp in the teens. I might have to go shopping for a cute pink l/s running top. Have to see what kinda forecast we get at Painter's. 2007 was in the teens. 2008 was in the low 30's.

I should be good with what I bought. I am going to look like I am blind. I got a red fleece zip up. A long sleeve hot pink running shirt and hot pink running pants. Red gloves and a red ear muff. I have it all on right now. I should wear it to work tonight! It especially looks great with my red, green, black and white striped knee-highs. I am looking nice!

You are so cute!!! Who cares if you're "color blind". Did you say knee-highs? Now I've got to see that. I saw couple of runners at the Spanish Fork 1/2 wearing kneehighs and some 80's tight and geeky shorts complete with the sweat bands. They're hilarious.

This weather really is nasty. It stays warm long enough to melt and then refreeze. The next day is always worse than they day before! But, you did it once again! GREAT WORK!!! Do not get sick, take care of yourself.

Way to knock it out Smooth!

I walk like a duck as well. But the faster you run the more your feet point forward. Try it sometime in better conditions with only a little snow or some puddles. At leas this is what the foot doc told me... something to do with bio-mechanics.

I think you're right about the bio-mechanics. I have flat feet (low arch). Last time I ran on thin snow, it was a bit faster and my footprints were more forward pointing. I sure don't want to run like a duck or a penguin.
