Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

THANK YOU KELLI, YOU ARE the BEST RUNNING PARTNER!!!!!

I was on my feet a lot yesterday.  My right calf was acting weird with twinges of pain.  The left  ankle tendon was swollen but was fine as long as I didn't put pressure on it.  But I was too busy to ice or stretch.  Our dinner guests left around 9:45 pm.  Hubby and I sat and talked (which doesn't happen very often).  Then we cleaned and did dishes 'till midnight.  I was pooped but it was nice to spend time with him working side by side.

I woke up couple of times during the night with throbbing pain on my left toe and thought about what to do with my long run in the morning.  When I finally got up to kneel in prayer; I was surprised to find that the calf was fine and the tendon was much calmer.  So I hurried and got ready to go.  While taking extra care to lace the shoes just right I forgot to take my Garmin.

Got to the JRP and was happy to see Huans32, MissFIT, Liz, Kelli and Scott.  I got to meet the famous Walter and later Misty.  A pretty brisk wind was coming from the north.  We headed on the south trail first.  I wasn't sure how fast or far I could run.  I thought may be 9:30 would be good.  I was so HAPPY and GRATEFUL Kelli stayed with me the whole run.  We ran 8 miles and back to the car.  The wind was bad on the north trail.  Misty had icicles on her pony tail.  I was too chicken to run into the cold wind and the hills.  Kelli was so good to run with me AGAIN to the south trail for another 10.  I think we finish the 18 miler in 2:46.  I am certain I would not have been able to do it without Kelli.

Post run damage asessment:  left middle toe still sore.  Left ankle tendon has a swollen nodule about the size of a large blue berry, tender to touch.  Right middle toe bloodied.  Hopefully after resting Sunday, I'll be good to go on Monday.  Going to dinner at Market Street Grill and concert tonight.  Hope I can stay awake.

Oh my goodness, we did some damage to your feet today!!! Sorry!!! We had an average pace of 9:20 today, so we did pretty dang good! We had some fast and some SLOW, but we finished!

Isn't it amazing how much we both needed each other today? I could NEVER have finished without you today. NEVER. THANKS YOU so much for running with me and chatting and keeping my mind off the fact that I was tired!! YOU ARE THE BEST RUNNING PARTNER!

REALLY, let me know if there is a day you have free that you want to run 14 miles and we will run the Riverton Half course. My sister is always good to take my kids for a little bit, so it is no problem.

From Smooth on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 17:11:07 from 71.36.69.102

The "damage" is really no big deal. They were there before the run really, except for the bloodied toe. Weird, I wonder if I need new socks.

Average 9:20 is dang good for me. I am a happy camper. THANK YOU for "pacing" me today.

I LOVE to run with you. How's Wed, March 18 looks on your schedule? I'm good anytime after 7:30 am.

Hey Smooth!!

Looks and sounds like you had an amazing run! Except for the wind it sounds pretty near perfect!! :)

How fantastic that you and Kelli were able to run together. I am sure that the combination of your positive vibes and her positive vibes made for complete awesomeness!!!

Take care of your feet and have some great food and fun tonight!! :)

What a fantastic run :) You guys are amazing :) Sorry about the battle wounds :( That sounds so yucky. Good luck at the concert tonight. I hate sitting after a long run. Your miles are over the top!

You and Kelli are so cute, looks like you two were a great team supporting each other, you both made each other stronger!! Let's hope your bloody battle wounds heal fast, you are on a mission girl! I'm with Marion, I hope your legs don't freeze up at the concert and Larry doesn't have to carry you back to the car, oh, well, you are tiny, he can do it! Great job!!

Smooth ~ It was so nice to met you (again) today. Now I know why so many people write and say such nice things about you. Looking forward to getting to know you better!!!

I'm glad you had such a good run today - but a bit worried about your injuries. Try and ice that tendon a lot this weekend so it can get a chance to heal.

Have fun tonight! You two sure do some interesting things together.

I think the 18th would work. Would that be dumb to do when I have the 1/2 in Moab on the 21st? I kind of think it would not be a problem as long as I do not run fast. For my PR in Hobblecreek I had a pretty long run during the week, and I was not even doing that much mileage back then. What do you think?

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 08, 2009 at 20:53:13 from 71.36.69.102

Teena,

It really was a great run with Kelli. We love you and wish so badly that you were not injured and could run pain free with us. We have missed you terribly. But we are going to get together REAL soon. LOVE YOU!!!!

Marion,

THANK YOU so much for "checking" on me. I know how busy you've been with your dad. I hope he is healing fast and doing well after his open heart surgery. I'm going to your blog for update on you and your dad.

Mark,

It is ALWAYS WONDERFUL to see you!!! You looked so happy running with MissFIT. Thank you to you and yours for coming down to Lehi. See you on Sat.

Leslie,

Lucky for me that Kelli was tired from a long week/trip of relay race and driving. She is so nice and kind that she would run at any pace to help me and her friends to have a good run.

My legs did not freeze up. Bobby McFerrin's concert was the most amazing musical experience I've ever had. He is truly one of a kind. Two hours of non-stop singing, dancing, harmonizing, accompanying, improvising, chorusing and jazzing. I loved every second of it. He "accompanied" us singing Ave Maria with his "body voice". We were involved instantly with our voices as "piano" keys while he was jumping along the stage singing. His voice range and capacities is incredible. His belief that every soul can and yearn to sing was proven true Sat. night. If you close your eyes, you would have thought there was a full band, or choir singing, but it was just him. He did the Wizard of Oz all my himself!!!

Kristie,

Not sure, if that's how I should spell or call your name. It was so nice to meet you again. You're a great runner. You have good taste, evidence of the tights you wore and the choice of your running partner! (wink, wink) I look forward to get to know you better too. I think the world of Mark. He is the kindest and most considerate gent there ever is.

Maurine,

THANK YOU for your kind concern. No worries. My tendon is gonna be alright. It doesn't hurt while I'm running, only afterwards. It is already getting better.

Kelli,

We don't have to do the entire 14. We can just run a portion of it. If you're concerned about running long so close to Moab, I'm good to change it to a different day too. I'm gonna PM you about getting together that week. LOVE YOU!!!

I'm glad to hear that you were feeling better Sat. morning and able to get in your long run. Hopefully your Sunday of rest will be just what the doctor ordered to get everything back in check again. For me the easy week sure helped.

From DonGardinero on Mon, Mar 09, 2009 at 13:57:05 from 75.162.191.8

Hey Smooth, sounds like you all had a really great day. How is your foot feeling today? Better, I hope.
