Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

"The air is REALLY BAD out there!!!  I didn't see a single soul running,"  said my sweetheart on his drive home from the temple.

"Are you sure?  It's probably just fog.  People aren't out as early in the winter.  May be the air is better up in Alpine!"  I argued.

"The air is better at Solitude.  Come ski with me!"

"But I HAVE to run 18 today!!!" I insisted

"Run on the treadmill.  That outside air is BAD for you!"

"Noooo! NOT the treadmill again...." I whined.

I dragged my stubborn and tired self out the door at 10:25 am.  Heading up the Suncrest Rd towards Alpine I was huffing away around mile 1.6 when Teena called my cell.  Couldn't turn around and go home now after telling her I was running 18 OUTSIDE! Mile 1-6 splits: 11:10, 11:00, 9:55, 9:47, 10:04, 11:04

Ran all the way up to Alpine canyon, average 100' elevation gain per mile.  Mile 7 had an elevation gain of 210' and my pace slowed to 11:40...yikes!  On the way down on mile 8 I thought I was picking up the pace.   So disappointed that it was only 9:30.  :(

Traversed over eastward and ran all over Alpine, more hills.  Stopped at the park to use the bathroom at mile 11.  Took gu at mile 13.  I was disappointed to see my time was 2:14:xx, my all time slowest Half.  Splits from mile 9-13:  10:40, 9:10, 9:32, 9:50, 10:09.

With 5 more to go, I decided it's time to get serious. stay focus and run some mps.  I "sprinted" the last 0.25 mile home.  Splits for mile 14-18.25:  9:07, 8:58, 8:55, 9:05, 8:37, 8:04.  TT:  3:00:35  AP: 9:55

My throat/airway is rather irritated w/ burning sensation, mild wheeze and cough.  I am too stubborn for my own good.  So glad next week is recovery week!  Crossing my fingers for better air quality.

You are crazy!! I opted to snow shoe up by snowbasin ski resort. I just could get out in the icky air. It also got my husband out so that was fun! Way to pick up the pace at the end... you are one strong girly

Wow those hills and the air made your splits so wonky! You did great no the last part. You HAVE to be proud of that since the first part was so hilly!

Nice run, but I wouldn't call a half marathon a recovery week! What time are you planning on at St. George half?

Wow, great run. I certainly don't have your willpower as I would have completely caved and gone skiing. But then again, I LOVE SKIING. It is sad I haven't been this year.

I wouldn't be concerned about your time or pace. The heavy air makes you slower. Ha.

Being stubborn is a good thing for a marathoner. Great job today.

Lori ~ SO JEALOUS of your clean air snow-shoeing!

april ~ hills+sucking in bad air=poor performance! So foolish of me!

Kathie ~ I have no clue what to run at Painter's. I'll probably treat it like a training run and happy with a sub-2. All these accumulation of miles and bad air cannot be good!!! STINK!

jun ~ I am skiing on Mon with the fam. I can't say I LOVE skiing. I would have enjoyed skiing more if I didn't worry so much about falling, breaking a leg. You know I have my priorities...Boston in the horizon! :)

Andy ~ Being stubborn is NOT good in marathon training though! I kept: thinking what would Andy do? He'd never run on the TM! Wish I had a Bountiful Blvd. here! :)

Sounds like a very tough 18 miler with that serious climb on the first half. At least you will get a break from all that nasty air on Saturday in St.Goerge.

That is an awesome long run coupled with hill climbing. way to go!
