Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

The 1st day of the year of the tiger begins at midnight in China on Sunday, Valentine's Day!  Since our friends in China are about 18 hours ahead in time zone, they are probably celebrating now.

Woke up three times during the wee hours dreaming of fire-crackers, lion dance and doing acrobats.   No wonder I was soooo tired and went right back to sleep! :)   Dreaded this long run, even doubted if I could finish.

Mile 1-5:  11:00, 10:44, 10:50, 15:39 (this can't be right), 9:01.  The first 3 miles were uphill into the wind and rain.  So glad I went back to the house to put on the Boston wind jacket.  At mile 3.5, a girl passed me and commented on my jacket and uphill running form.  We chatted and ran together to about mile 5 when she turned south and I went north.  Mile 4 split was somehow messed up.  This girl and I were going at a good clip.  I'm guessing it's closer to 9 mm.

Mile 6-10:  10:09, 10:10, 9:10, 8:40, 9:20.  Kept a steady effort on the incline going up to Alpine.  Turned around at mile 7.  Reached the Alpine City Park at mile 9 to take gu and potty stop.  It was hard to get going once I stopped.

Mile 11-16.5:  9:14, 8:45, 8:06, 8:28, 8:39, 8:17, 8:00.   After the last uphill at mile 11, it was downhill for another 1.5 miles.  The legs felt good so I pushed the last 3.5 miles (mostly flat w/ one small incline on the "bench") to home.  WooHoo!!!

I'm glad the ITB did not complain during the downhill.  This is the highest mileage week EVER for me.  Sooo ready for a rest day tomorrow!

Hubby came home from skiing and presented me a dozen red rosesxoxoxox!  What a sweetheart!  :)  Off to my mil's house for New Year's celebration, then the Stake Valentine's Dance where the glorious Kneader's pastries and chocolate fountains awaits me! :)

HAPPY VALENTINES EVERYONE!

70 for the week. Wow! You doubled my week's total. I was telling myself that it was OK cause you've got Boston coming up, and then I realized I've got the Buffalo Run 3 weeks before that! =:o I'd better get with the program!

From Kathie on Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 20:44:52 from 63.248.105.188

Nice run, those last miles really rocked!

From AmberG on Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 23:16:11 from 64.255.88.27

YAHOO!!! Awesome miles for the week! You are rockin! Way to pick it up at the end too. It's amazing how at first we wonder what we are doing, and by the end our bodies have spurted out enough endorphins and we feel energetic and alive! Great RUN!!!

AHHHH I want to hear all about your treats! You totally deserve them!

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 00:48:07 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ THANK YOU for saying the nicest things to me! YOU're the awesome one! It feels good to get that 70 solid on running 6 days/week and just once a day.

You had an AWESOME 16.5 miler today! I still can't get over how fast you ran that. You are gonna do AWESOME at Boston. I just LOVE YOU!!! Hope you're having a great evening!

Rachel & Paul ~ THANKS!

Bec ~ It was so good to see you tonight! You looked as beautiful as ever! It was so nice of your sister to come over to say hello. You have such an awesome family! Hope you had fun dancing the night away.

Bradley ~ You're the PRO and an OUTSTANDING mountain goat! I want to do the Buffalo run one of these days. I will be asking you for advice!!!

Kathie ~ Your run was awesome today! And all those hills too! GREAT JOB!

Amber ~ So true, why is that everything hurts the first mile...I thought it was just old age.

OK, here's the treats report. For dinner at my mother-in-law's, I did not eat any of the cookies she made. She makes the healthiest cookies too. At the Valentine Dance, I had 3 huge strawberries dipped in chocolate, one chocolate moose cup, one ecclair and one fruit tart, these are the mini Kneader's pastries. So yummy! Now back to the no sugar challenge which I think should be no sweat, I hope!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Any dark chocolate???

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 17:11:24 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ How'd you know? When I went to bed last night. I found some silky smooth dark Dove chocolate bars and a V. card on my pillow. I'll have to save them for next month since I'm upholding my no sugar challenge this month.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY to you! Do you have tomorrow off?

From Teena Marie on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 17:20:17 from 174.52.45.85

I thought you could have sugar all Valentine's weekend! WOW!!! You are so good!!!

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 17:28:14 from 174.23.239.148

When Prez. comes home, I'm going to ask him to hide them good. Tomorrow we're going skiing. It's going to kill me to not have my dark chocolate when we ride up on the ski lift. And we have dinner dates the next two weekends where there will be dessert galore. Ahhhh! Help me!!! :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Feb 14, 2010 at 17:33:13 from 174.52.45.85

All of you are amazing!! No way I could ever do this challenge.

I forgot to answer your question: I have the day off of school, but not work. Totally bummed because Ry took the day off. Wish so badly that I could stay home and hang out with him and the kids.

Happy Vday to you Smooth. Oh ran into a lady on the JRP trail. Name was Margret something a ruther. Thought for sure you had mentioned her before. Since she runs all the races and such. And I guess is doing the slam this year again. Well anyways. Happy Vday. And year of the Tiger too.

Wow 70+ is one week is a big week. You have amazingly durable legs. Very nice run to end a long week. Is this going to be your longest week for Boston training or are you going for more?

From Andy on Mon, Feb 15, 2010 at 19:15:16 from 198.60.114.178

Great week of running. I'm pretty sure that was more than you were supposed to run. Are you starting week 8 this week? If so, take advantage of the recovery week because next week is the killer week. You are doing an amazing job.

From TBarlow on Mon, Feb 15, 2010 at 21:29:12 from 216.194.124.36

WOWZER!

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 15, 2010 at 23:44:12 from 174.23.239.148

Rhett ~ The schedule max out at 70. I have couple weeks of those left.

Andy ~ Yes, I was supposed to run 67 last week and I am starting week 8. I will take advantage of this recovery week since I ran 69 the two previous weeks. Yes next week is a killer. Bring it on!
