Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Why is it that the word VO2 max sends me into fear and trepidation?  Today's schedule is the first VO2 max workout of this training cycle.  The last time I ran on the track was Sep 29, 2009 wearing shorts.  The thought of a li'ole granny running on the HS track in tights just didn't look right; so I opted to do it on the road.  (6 x 800 m @ 5K race pace, jog 50 to 90% interval time between)

2 mi warm up: 9:55, 9:36

800m in  3:51  (RI 400m in 2:10)

800m in  3:53  (RI 400m in 2:07)

800m in  3:50  (RI 400m in 2:07)

800m in  3:55  (RI 400m in 2:01)

800m in  3:53  (RI 400m in 2:05)

2.5 mi cool down:  8:34, 8:44, 8:50

TT:   1:16:39  AP: 8:30

I hate that lungs a gasping, legs a burning feeling.  SO glad it's done and I can run whatever pace I want the rest of the week!

Anyone interested in a group run this Sat. on the Lehi JRP?

Off to have lunch w/ Wendy and Olga! :)

Details for Sat. group run:

Where:  meet at the Lehi JRP acess on 1500 North.  Direction:  go west approx. 2 miles from the Chevron gas station at 1500 N. State St. in Lehi.  Parking area is on the left (south side of the road) just before the bridge.  To get to Lehi State St., coming from Salt Lake on I-15, take Exit 282, (the one after Thanksgiving Point).  Coming from Provo on I-15, take the Lehi 1200W Exit and turn left (west) onto SR 89.  The gas station is about 2 miles south from the Exits.

When:  start running at 8am.

What:  from the parking area (your car) to the north end is 5 miles, so 10 miles round trip.  The south end is 4 miles to the trail closure (for bridge/road re-construction), so 8 miles round trip back to the car.  Of course you can turn around at any point on the trail to get your desired mileage.  There's a port-a-potty at the Willow Creek camp site about 2 miles south of the parking area.  The 3 bathrooms on the north end are closed for the winter.

Who:  all are welcome, the more the merrier! :)

Wow lady, you had some nice paces on those 800's!! A group run in Lehi sounds amazing - wish I could come.

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 18:15:58 from 67.42.27.114

Crud, you Sister Speed Demon are putting me to shame.

From Kelli on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 18:50:06 from 71.219.89.82

AWESOME WORKOUT!!!! Those are some great 800 times. You are getting FASTer by the day!!!

I will have to see what our family schedule is for Saturday, I would love to come and protect you from the animals with my scary cell phone!

From Teena Marie on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 19:09:21 from 174.52.45.85

How you are able to pull out those kind of numbers on so many miles is beyond me. You are the hardest of the hardcore!!!

Love you!!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 19:18:32 from 174.23.239.148

Toby ~ You too?!! I am such a wimp when it comes to SW. 5K terrifies me!

allie ~ THANKS! I am solidly built to run solidly slow! :)

Rachel ~ Can't wait for you to start running again. I sure could use your company.

Paul ~ You make me laugh. I'm NO sister speed demon. That title belongs to Kelli and Teena! :)

Kelli ~ Nope, I'm not getting faster. I don't think that's possible. Just hoping to not get any slower.

Sure hope you and Scott can come on Sat. Miss you like crazy.

SSF ~ Look who's talking! You did TEN Yassos at a MUCH MUCH MUCH FASTER pace than me. Your workouts make mine look like I'm saying the Pledge to the Flag. You're the hardest of the hardest hardcore! :)

From Kathie on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 19:30:05 from 63.248.105.188

Nice run I may join you on Saturday I was planning on going around 18 and to do it with friend would be great!

From LuzyLew on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 21:53:05 from 69.169.167.157

I got it!! didn't realize you'd posted it all here already. I'll see you then. I'm so glad to read your 'trepidation' about the VO2 max (I'm scared to, I'd opt for a 50 miler before being forced to run fast....). But you DID IT!!!!

From Teena Marie on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 22:38:44 from 174.52.45.85

SSF --

But I don't run even half as many miles as you!!! :)

You're hardcore and you know it!!! (Ry and Larry know it as well ... so no arguing!!!)

Love you!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 22:48:52 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ More miles = more tired = more slow. Ry and Larry know I'm STUBBORN!

Now, you on the other hand, are cranking out intervals at the 6's paces. Everyone (except you) know very well that you are a SPEED DEMON and HARDCORE!!!

And, I can't even begin to describe your DIEHARD xtraining(S)!!! Seriously, your workouts ROCK! Not to mention you're an A++ student! SO PROUD of you! But be careful, NO INJURIES allowed!!!

LOVE YOU!

Great workout Smooth! Wish I could come run with you on Saturday!

From Huans32 on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 08:39:59 from 138.64.8.52

Awesome run Smooth. That is a great run there for sure. As for the Sat run. This week it wont work for us. Well mostly for me. I got a playoff Bball game at 8:15 Sat morning. So my 20 miler will have to be around noon or so.:( It would of been great. And Kathie would of been there dang it.:(

From Rhett on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 12:13:13 from 74.41.249.102

Very nice speed work. I hope I'm as fast as you are when I'm a li'ole grandpa. I know for sure I won't look as good in running tights as you do.

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 21:09:23 from 205.172.12.229

Nice speedwork! You are consistent and don't slow down at all! Vo2 max scares me too, it means PAIN. Enjoy your pleasant runs the rest of this week.

From JulieC on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 21:34:42 from 71.35.216.162

I read this yesterday but didn't comment because I was too exhausted and reading it made me more so :D. You put in a great run Smooth. What are you aiming for at Boston? A PR from the one listed, right?

From crockett on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 17:28:00 from 216.49.181.254

I might join you Saturday, looks like rain/snow, would you still run? I need some good Smooth coaching on getting ready for Boston.

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 17:39:24 from 71.219.89.82

I will answer, she always runs---rain or shine! Her and I trudged up that trail in 5 a foot of snow (not really, but in places it was that deep!)

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 21:28:41 from 174.23.239.148

vinh ~ when you come to visit this summer, you'll have to join us for a group run.

Mark ~ hope your team wins. Can Kristi come?

Rhett ~ What a nice thing to say to a li'ole granny! :)

April ~ I'm a wimp. I do NOT like pain. I don't believe Pain is weakness leaving the body It's a lie! :)

Julie ~ PR at Boston will be sweet! Realistically, I'll be happy if anything remotely close to a sub 4.

Davy ~ That would be so awesome to have you there. What ya talking about getting ready for Boston? Boston is just another training run for your 100s. :)

Kelli ~ Hopefully no 5' snow on Sat. That was a fun workout when you and I trudged up that trail. I'm so excited to see you! It's been too long! :)

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 22:34:30 from 71.219.89.82

Don't worry, I still look the same. You will recognize me!!!

I am looking forward to it---one of my favorite places and people to run with!
