Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

My presidency meeting was cut short.  Ran with Wendy at easy chatty pace.  So good to have her company to chase away the gloom.  I crave/need sunshine and blue sky!

I feel the little aches and pains more when I run slow (90 or more sec. slower than mp).  Is that normal?

Hey Smooth, I always run slow so it would be hard for me to answer that one. That sounds like a fun run. Chatty runs are the best.

Smooth, you've had lots of big workouts. I think you have just gotten accustomed to such mental fortitude that easy runs allow your mind to wander a bit more. As long as they are only little aches and pains, I wouldn't worry too much.

I hear ya on the sky and sun. It's sure nice to have a training partner to keep you company through the cloudy days.

Interesting question...I have no idea but will pay closer attention and see if I notice the same thing.

Smooth, I think we all have a natural stride -- even on our easy days. If it is too slow, I think we feel it more. Just my opinion. :)

We both did 17 miles! Yay for us! Ihope your Boston training is going well Smooth, I am sure it is!!!

From Lyman on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 11:18:13 from 170.135.241.45

I have the same problem when I go too slow. I think it changes your stride enough that it doesn't feel right. Last night I was running too slow and when I picked it up a little all the little aches and pains went away :)

From Kathie on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 15:27:47 from 63.248.105.188

Kim really hurt her knee at painters and she thinks it is in part due to running much slower with Cristy. That being said a good slow run is just what the body needs every now and then!

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 16:25:18 from 71.219.89.82

I think that running slower than what you are accustomed to just takes practice. It used to hurt me, but I am so used to it now that it is no biggie. WAIT---maybe it is because I run more slow miles than I do fast so the slow has become my natural pace. I DUNNO!!!! It did really used to hurt my groin muscles for some reason.

SO, 8:00 Saturday? Big crowd???

I hear ya Soothie, I've had just about enough of this "inversion" crap!!!

Scott ~ You run plenty fast! Chatty runs are funner!

Paul ~ Good point!

Mack ~ I am a "sun" person. It helped so much to have a friend to run with.

Marc ~ I notice if I pick up the pace, the pain would go away.

Leslie ~ YOU ran 17. I only did 6 recovery. Thanks for your ever kind words.

Lyman ~ You said it exactly how I feel. I also think that it was hard to match my partner's strides. She's alot taller than me; but her pace are slower. Good thing it was a short recovery run.

Kathie ~ That's what I was thinking. I'm glad it was only 6 miles.

Kelli ~ So far, I know Luz is coming for sure and may be Kathie and Teena.

Kristi ~ I am SOOOO ready for Spring. I really don't mind winter as long as we have sunshine. I MISS my sun!!!
