Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I was so excited about today's run that I couldn't fall asleep for the longest time.  I must  have dozed off around 3am b/c I had this dream that Luzy came to my house b/c she didn't know the way to the trail.  She somehow slept in our bed and was freezing.  So I covered her with 3 layers of quilts.  And then we got up to get ready for the run and I couldn't find my running bra!  The clock was reading 8am and I panicked that we would be late...that woke me up and the real clock read 3:55.   Weird dream (er nightmare).

Anyway I got to the parking lot,  Kelli and Mayard were already there.  Kathie and Kimmy had already run 2 miles beforehand and got back just in time as Davy, Teena and Luzy arrived.  It was SOOO good to see everyone.  The sky was clear and a bit chilly w/ the wind.

Maynard and Davy lead the pack, Kelli and Teena followed behind, Luzy and I followed after Kathie and Kimmie!  I just love chatting with Luzy and enjoying her wealth of knowledge about animals and birds.  I felt terrible about not knowing the trail closure.  Good thing Davy and Maynard were there to show us how easily it's to get down and over the dirt mount and get back on the trail.

The uphills always kicked my trash.  Luzy was very patient and kind to stay with me.  We got back to the car and bid goodbye to Kathie, Kimmy and Maynard; then went south for 8 more.  When we reached the campground 2 miles later, Kelli was there waiting for us.  We ran together and saw Teena and Davy at our mile 13.5  and their 14.5 Davy turned around to run with us for the remainder of our miles.  We were so impressed that he had already run over 26 miles making his run over 31 miles today, WOW!!!  Then I was floored to find out Kelli's going home to run MORE with Scott making this her second marathon+ two weeks in a row!  Here I was so proud of myself for running an extra 3 miles more than what my schedule called for!  Ha!

We had a nice post race chat eating oranges and drinking hot cocoa.  It was so good to see RAD who had come to see us after her 3 hours workout in the gym.  I LOVE running; but I LOVE my friends soooo much more!  It was a great day!

I did not gu; but drank 14 oz gatorade on the run, no potty stop.  AP: 9:35.

When I got home, my friend from Idaho surprised me with a visit.  What a bonus!!!

I want to be the first to say, AWESOME run Smoothie! Sounds like you had a perfect running day :). What a dream btw.

Thank you sweet friend for arranging that run. I love that you stayed with me and that two extra miles for me felt like a treat. I'm stunned that Kelly's doing 26, and at Davy's 30. You guys are hard core. I felt like a champion just for coming to run with y'all. You'll have to think more about your totem animal and tell me what you've decided. We sure did see a lot of hawks though, so maybe we can share Hawks--or better yet, you can claim the Eagle! You're an amazing lady Smooth. I loved, loved, loved this run. It was the funnest 18 miles I've EVER run. Easy, breezy--followed by delicious oranges & hot chocolate. Thanks again for organizing that and making it happen. Let me know when we can do more of those runs together in case I can make it, or we can arrange it (particularly for the 20s). XOXO

Sounds like a great run. Have fun with your ID friend.

From Maurine/Miles on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 17:06:42 from 76.29.187.11

Sounds like a good time. How many weeks to Boston?

I'm still building my mileage up slowly. This achilles issues is a pin (literally), but it doesn't seem to be getting worse and only need an occasional rest day.

Where are you running next Saturday?

From allie on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 17:07:58 from 98.202.24.36

jealous , wishing I wasn't a night owl. Up now but my hip and lower back to my achilles is STILL on FIah!! That run sounded so relaxing and enjoyable. I hope you run another on a Saturday I am not working. 50/50 chance there. Good job!!

From crockett on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 17:16:00 from 71.32.233.142

Thanks Smooth for a great run. It was a beautiful morning and I enjoyed it much better than driving up to Ogden to kill myself running the 10k there. I made the right choice to join your group. You know, you still have more miles than me for the year. You are working very hard. Good to meet you Luzy. You kept a good strong steady pace for a long run. Way to go. I was really struggling at the end just to keep up with you.

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 17:56:15 from 174.23.239.148

Bec ~ Thanks! Wish you were there!

Luz ~ I love love love your company. You are sooo good to me! I will keep thinking about my totem animal and I will keep an eye out for the movie Grizzly Man. So interesting!

Yes, we will definitely do more long runs together. You enrich my life soooo much! I just love you!

Rhett ~ I always think about you on my runs and wonder what you were doing. I'm going over to your blog now.

Maurine ~ 8 weeks to Boston. I'm glad to hear that your archilles is on the mend. I am not sure where I'll be running next Sat. It's a 22 miler. Any suggestion?

allie ~ Crazy dream! Hope you're enjoying your weekend.

Leslie ~ It was a perfect day! We were talking about how we need to have you and Maurine join us for a long run one of these Saturdays.

Julie ~ Miss you! I knew when you didn't come that you were probably sleeping after a tough shift. I hope hope hope that your back pain will be gone. I am sure it's not serious injury. Probably a combination of running SW and BW and back to back tough runs with the zeroed new shoes plus working a hard night shift. Get some rest and figure out the shoes you need and you will be golden.

Davy ~ SO glad you came. You're an inspiration to us! My mileage will do down down down after Boston while yours will just go up up up w/ all your 100's this year. Your 31 miler was a just another Sat. run for you! AMAZING!!!

I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU!!!!

Thank you so so so much for organizing this. Although I have seen you two days in a row I don't feel like I have had enough time with you. I am a Smooth-Snob ... I want more of your time than I deserve!!! :)

Enjoy your day. I am glad you had a surprise visit. So many people love you!!!!

From auntieem on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 20:12:26 from 24.17.177.218

Sounds like perfection! I am glad to hear someone else gets so excited about a run they couldn't sleep. I did that last night as well. So, funny, like kids and Christmas!

From TBarlow on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 22:29:39 from 216.194.124.36

I'm so jealous - it sounds wonderful to run with so many buddies!

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 20, 2010 at 22:49:19 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ You always make me smile! 8 love-yous in capital! I'm gonna get teased by Gary about the "love fest" for sure!

It was definitely NOT enough SSF time even two days in a row. Only if you weren't SOOOO busy and SOOOO POP-U-LAR!!!

I just LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

auntieem ~ You said it perfectly...just like kids at Christmas! I sometimes wonder if I enjoy these runs with friends more than running races.

Toby ~ You live close by too. I hope you will join us in the future soon. It'd be wonderful to meet you.

From Annie on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 00:18:42 from 208.54.83.75

Once again you amaze me! I would love to come run with you guys someday but I am super slow and am not running no 18 miles! Maybe in a few months when I am in my full on Marathon training. But then you will have to spend most of the time reassuring me that I won't actually die!

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 00:24:06 from 174.23.239.148

Annie ~ You are too cute!!! NICE 10 miler today and you're DOING IT! Slow and fast is all relative. Don't ever worry about that. Believe me, I run plenty slow a LOT of the times. I am NOT a speed demon or diehard like Teena. Can't wait to run with you in a couple months!

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 11:34:15 from 71.219.89.82

Thanks for planning another run! I love that trail, I am so sad that they are going to ruin our running there until fall with that darn construction, and only .5 miles into the darn trail! What do they need all of those roads for out there??? We will have to run the Draper trail, I guess!

Have a great Sunday! It was so nice to run with you and chat. I LOVE running with you!

From MarcE on Mon, Feb 22, 2010 at 10:12:02 from 206.225.68.76

It was SO good to see you Smooth! Thanks for putting the run together so I could play the annoying little sister and show up for the food and fun :)

You have had an AWESOME running week and today's run topped it all off! So impressed with all you do - keep it up lady!!

From Bonnie on Mon, Feb 22, 2010 at 15:58:38 from 128.196.228.134

I am so glad you had such a fun time and it sounds SOOOO cool that you guys all got to see each other - good for Rachel too because it is so hard when you aren't running. Big hugs ladies!
