Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Woke up feeling very tired even after 8 hours of sleep.  I felt puggy the last two days.  I had gained 6 lbs. since Sat.  Today's run was supposed to be an 11 miler.  The weather was very Spring like, T 42 with a pleasant south wind.   I dragged my lead legs out hoping I would feel better once I got going.  I never could get into it.  The legs started to ache so I cut it short.  The last mile felt like a death march.  I'll need to do some yoga tonight.

6 miles in 1:01:15.  AP: 10:13

I did the pushup challenge last night, Wk 4 Day 1 Column 3:  21, 25, 21, 21, (40*)

*Not sure if it really counts.  I rested for more than the called for 60 seconds before doing the max set because my son needed me to help him with 12th grade registration.  I didn't want him to wait 'cause I didn't want to let him know I was practicing pushups.  I want to surprise him at the end of the challenge.

HOLY MOLY SMOOTH!!! 40!!! Did you say 40!!! WOW!!! You never cease to amaze me. Your one tough woman. Those dogs that have bother you the last little bit dont even know what kind of woman they are messing with.:) Great job on your death march too.

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 16:01:29 from 71.36.64.119

Mark, did you not read the * asterisk explanation? I shouldn't count the 40; but I was surprised. It will probably be more like 28. Now dogs are a different story, no amount of sexy arms can fend of mad dogs teeth!!!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 16:10:41 from 63.255.172.2

Great job, Smooth! You pushed hard yesterday and felt like you should have had another easy day - so maybe that accounts for the tired legs today.

From huans32 on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 16:13:53 from 138.64.2.77

Oh I saw the asterisk. But I did see the 40 push-ups too. We will take the 40 push-ups anyway we can. You did awesome. And as it says also. Min of 60 sec break between. More can be take in required. My co-worker that is doing the challenge with me. And he normal takes at least 2 mins between sets. Its all good 40 is 40 WOOT WOOT!!!

From Bec on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 17:08:50 from 205.123.38.69

Wow Smooth. Doing 100 pushups for your son will be a great surprise! I would love to see it too.

I know how you feel. Sluggy is in my vocab. lately. Good week to ease it up a little and take some deep breathes. Relax and eat some chocolate too.

From leslie on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 20:07:30 from 76.23.61.78

40 push ups is wild!!!! Never in a million years could I do that.

It doesn't sound like you to use the words tired and puggy, it is kind of cute, it makes you sound alittle more normal than your usual wonder woman self!

I always look forward to reading your blog!!! Enjoy your time with your son.

From Kathie on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 20:18:09 from 207.155.176.10

Way to listen to your body! I am sure you will gain more from the rest than you would have the run.

I am with the rest of your FANS and can't believe you did 40 even with the * you are fo tuff!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 21:16:31 from 71.36.64.119

Bec,

Chocolate is food for the goddess, especially the running goddess.

Leslie,

I could use the words exhausted, dead, bloated, cranky, wimpy, lazy, etc. etc. to describe meeself today. But it's almost over so I won't. Tomorrow will be a better day!

Kathie,

I think I'm tired of listening to my body telling me I'm old and tired. It will be so awesome if I can show my teenage iron pumping son (he lifts every other day at school for football conditioning) that I can push 100 ups.

From RAD on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 21:17:08 from 67.166.99.8

Smooth, you are amazing..not only the 40, even with *, but draging yourself out for 6 miles when you feel that way. Especially if no one was around for me to be accountable to I probably would've stayed in bed. Great job today and get some rest tonight and enjoy the yoga!!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 21:23:52 from 71.36.64.119

Rachel,

You know how we have to be "accountable" on the blog. THANKS for the encouragement. I LOVE your positive attitudes and enthusiasm.

i think your pushups count you did them :)

hey six miles is much better than nothing....

and there must be more lead in the air or something cuz seems more than just you and I had lead legs.

From Marion on Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 14:40:43 from 71.219.54.89

You are a push up machine! WOW!! Very good idea to cut the run short. No reason to torture yourself when you have got plenty of time to do it another day ;)
