Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Never go to bed on a full stomach.  I must have consumed enough food to make an NFL coach proud.  Between hubby's snoring, my achy knees and full tummy I got zero sleep.  After hubby left for the temple at 5:30 am.  I got up to do the laundry (my running clothes were all dirty), ate breakfast, went to take care of my elderly neighbor, then drove to the parkway at West Jordan.

I was SOOO HAPPY to see Kathie waiting there.  It was windy and we had the tail wind for the first 3 miles then turn around back to the parking lot where we were to meet Teena. It was so fun chatting w/ Kathie the miles just flew.  We went south for another mile and turn around back to the parking (8 miles) where Teena has arrived.  The three of us went north again with "wind beneath our wings".  Andy should be so proud of his harems as we dedicated fond memories of him at each "mile marker".

We got back to the parking lot at mile 17.25 and bid Katie goodbye.  THANKS Kathie for waiting so late to come and run with me (us).  You made the miles fun and fast!  Teena had already run over 19 miles since she ran 10 FAST miles earlier with JohnnyV.   It was SO GOOD and SWEET of her to stay and run with me for 4.75 more.  We decided to head south with the head wind so we'll have tail wind for our last couple miles.  She encouraged me along and when she said "6 more minutes", I got pumped thinking: "hey I can suffer for 6 minutes" so picked up the pace to a satisfying finish!

Gu at mile 10 and 17 and drank about 21 oz.  Had a can of slimfast on the drive home. 22 miles in 3:18:50.   AP:  9:02.  I'm very happy with this AP.   Here are the splits (for Kathie as her Garmin got messed up).  You can tell when we had the tail wind and when we had the head wind.  8:58, 8:51, 8:49, 9:07, 9:30, 9:25, 9:29, 8:59, 8:28, 8:35, 8:43, 8:50, 8:51, 9:31, 9:18, 9:33, 9:18, 9:23, 9:19, 8:51, 8:42, 7:59.

THANKS KATHIE & TEENA FOR THE BEST LONG RUN EVER EVER EVER!!!

Off to dinner with the Stake presidency!

Wow, another impressive long run with good friends at a GREAT pace! Keep up that work - I'm seeing a beautiful butterfly :)

You should be eating enough to make an NFL coach proud!! You are running killer and stellar miles! I am so so so impressed.

I love you so much and count our runs as priceless.

Nice job slugger! Not sure why I just called you that, but it sounded good!

Have a wonderful dinner. :)

(And seriously, that last mile ... you kicked some major trash!!!)

Wow!!!!!!! You are a tough little cookie. I love sleeping with a full tummy! LOL! I hope to get in a 20 miler on Wed. I hope you wake up tomorrow feeling good and strong!!

From Rhett on Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 20:53:20 from 74.32.218.141

Very nice 22 miler Smooth. Even if you only hit 9 minute miles for the next 4.2 you would have been easily under the 4 hour mark. I can't wait to see how well you are going to do at Boston. And look how you finished sub 8. You must have still had something left in the tank!!!

From crockett on Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 22:47:30 from 71.36.80.124

Great run Smooth and another great week running. You still have more miles than me for the year, but I've almost caught up!

From Kathie on Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 22:47:55 from 63.248.105.188

Such a nice run it was so much fun! I hope you get more sleep tonight!

From Kelli on Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 23:39:16 from 71.219.89.82

SMOOTH!!!! If you deny that you are getting faster after those splits today, you are CRAZY!!!!! Whatever you are doing, it is working! You are gonna be fast in those many races this year.

Hope dinner was fun! 1 more day to sugar.....

You made it through what I consider the toughest week of the Pfitz schedule and did so in typical amazing fashion. Great job this week.

Minus the wind it sounds like a fabulous day. Very impressed with your miles Smooth. One day I want to be like you.

WHOA! Big, beautiful miles ya got there! What a great accomplishment!

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 17:16:12 from 174.23.198.220

Rachel ~ You're SO CUTE! I'm still a catapiller! :) But am the luckiest one with GREAT friends to help me "inch" along!

SSF ~ I LOVE YOU SOOO MUCH! What a blessing you are to me! THANK YOU for running with me again! I couldn't have done it without you. That last mile happened because you were there pacing and calling out the times. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Can't wait for L2L, although we won't be running together.

You can call me anything you want. Is slugger a good word though? I'm worried about naughty words lately for some reason. :)

Leslie ~ Believe me, you don't want to go to bed with a belly that FULL. I felt like a beached whale and then the tummy was doing its job gurgling all night...eek! GOOD LUCK on your 20 miler on Wed. Are you running on the Oval again w/ some good reads? You're amazing!!!

Rhett ~ Thanks for your confidence. We had a few stops though, taking gu, dropping off the fuel belt in the car, Teena and Kathie stripping, I mean taking off their base layers, so if I took that into account, it wouldn't be a sub-4 finish. But, I do hope to run another sub-4 at Boston. The last mile felt awesome with Teena urging me along and the help of tailwind. It's a GREAT feeling to finish a long run STRONG! I can't believe you did your long run at 10:30pm. I'd be dead at that hour!

Davy ~ Your 35 miler was amazing! I AM relishing for just one day barely ahead of you by a measely couple miles. I can NEVER outdo your impressive MEGA mileage! Afterall, you're my HERO!

Kathie ~ I had a blast! You're so fun to run with. THANK YOU! Can't wait for L2L when the harems strike again. I did get 7 hours sleep last night. Hope you made it to the hospital visit!

Kelli ~ One good run does not predict race outcome. But thanks for the accolade. I sure love and appreciate you!

The dinner was great. I had to refrain from the pies. Tomorrow, Monday, Monday, Monday, my chocolate is calling me!

Andy ~ Really that's the toughest week? I'm glad it's over. But then I saw all these VO2max days looming ahead, I'm scared!

Scott ~ The wind was wicked silly. It would have been miserable if I didn't Kathie and Teena to run with. Granted, you can't really draft off of these skinny ladies; but they made the wind bearable...although our chats and laughters were muffled.

You are already an AWESOME athlete, no need to be like me! But thanks for the kind words!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 17:50:44 from 174.52.45.85

SSF,

I would only call you the nicest of names.

Slugger (n): One who strikes hard!!! :)

(You are as hardcore as they come!)

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 19:22:58 from 71.219.89.82

Smooth, you have had far more than one good run recently!!! I know that speed is not a concern for you, but I think because of that you are just no noticing how much faster you are getting. We will let the races decide!

I talked about you today in our RS lesson, it was about trying to be more Christ-like, and what better example out there do we have than you????

From Teena Marie on Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 20:07:48 from 174.52.45.85

Kelli is so so so right!!!!

Kelli & SSF ~ You are far too kind! I LOVE YOU both SOOOO MUCH!!!

So in awe of how you just crank out those long miles so consistently. Glad I read this one just before I head out for my long run this morning!
