Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Way to go Smooth! How is the foot feeling? Are you still in the boot? Onward and upward :)

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 13:50:00 from 174.27.219.252

Hi Toby ~ Yep, still in the boot. Going to see the doc. tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that he will clear me to run. It may be wishy washy thinking...but I have NO pain in the foot, just some strange tinkling sensation at the end of the day when I remove the boot. Good signs eh! :)

From RAD on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 13:55:04 from 98.202.23.178

I love what you are doing! You are a maniac on the elliptical. I'm thinking of purchasing one...I may need some advice :)

Finger crossed for tomorrow!! I'd better get a text - I'll be impatiently waiting!

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 14:00:32 from 205.158.160.209

Awwww man, injuries stink. Good luck Smooth. Hopefully you get some good news.

From Smooth on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 14:10:40 from 174.27.219.252

Rachel ~ you'll be the first to know after the doc. visit.

I'm SO glad we got the elliptical for Christmas. It doesn't replace running, NOTHING does...but it's the most convenient machine. When the incline is set above 30, it's like a stair climber.

Scott ~ I guess injuries is part of the game. Am pretty lucky to have avoided injury in 6-7 years of running! :)

From Bec on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 15:04:41 from 68.206.133.141

7 weeks, 7 weeks!!!! Keep your work up with the cross training and you will be there when the gun goes off. Love you Smooth. :)

From Rhett on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 16:52:24 from 170.215.58.122

Smooth, your body is going to be so grateful for this time off from running and working a few different muscles that you are going to feel like superwoman when you get to run again. I hope you get a good report tomorrow.

From Teena Marie on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 18:04:25 from 75.162.92.164

Make sure that you let me know what the doc says as well. :) I will keep my phone on silence but where I can see it so that I can read the news immediately. :)

VERY VERY VERY nice crosstraining! The best part about injuries is that it forces us to do things out of what we would normally do and it reminds us how much we LOVE running (in my opinion).

I love you!!!

From glidergirl on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 22:27:27 from 67.2.170.32

Great job Smooth!! You are a cross training rock star! Let us know what they say tomorrow.

From glidergirl on Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 22:28:32 from 67.2.170.32

PS - how do you watch these documentaries? I would like to watch some and was wondering if you get them on Netflix or what?

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 14:49:08 from 174.27.219.252

Bec ~ thanks! these next few weeks is crucial in rehabing the foot and hopefully I will be healthy enough to run/walk 26.4 (that's my average marathon distance) at Boston. :)

Rhett ~ you are so right. All the nagging tightness/soreness in my legs are fading. I feel like a sloath...in a good way! :)

I did get good report at the doctor today. Things are heading the right direction. Now I just need to be smart the next 6 weeks! :)

SSF ~ Did you get my text? I'm very happy with the doctor's recommendation.

You are very right about injuries and cross training. You speak from a well of knowledge and experience. I love running mainly because it's the ONLY thing I know how to do! :) I LOVE YOU too! :)

Brooke ~ thanks! I got most of the documentaries from Netflix. My flatscreen TV in the home gym has Netflix but not cable. Today I watched a documentary, Man On a Mission, from my iPad while on the elliptical, a very interesting documentary about the Kenyans elite runners and their way of education.

I have also watched running movies such as Chariots of Fire and Running the Sahara from Netflix while on the treadmill.

There are couple of documentaries from Netflix about babies that I think you might enjoy while you're prego! Science of Babies (45min, 2007) Babies (1hr 18 min, 2010), The Business of Being Born (1hr 24 min, 2007), Crunch: Yoga Mama (41 min, 2004), National Geographic: the Human Body (56 min)

From glidergirl on Wed, Feb 29, 2012 at 04:42:28 from 155.100.9.11

Thanks so much Smooth!! I'll definitely be watching those. :) And making my husband watch some, too...don't want him to be shell shocked...=0)
