Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Spent the bulk of the morning with Beverly and Bob who has bone cancer and was supposed to have died over 2 years ago.  I always feel such love and peace in their home and go away with renewed gratitude.  There has been a lot of of illnesses and tragedies around my friends and associates lately.  I am so grateful for the ability to run and the Plan of Salvation.

Plan was to run up Suncrest.  Felt a sharp pain in my left knee at about 0.8 mile into the run.  Almost abandoned the run but decided to walk it off; then gradually resumed running.  Decided to cut across to Alpine instead of straight up Suncrest.  Turned out to be a good choice.  The rolling hills allowed my legs to use different muscles.  I didn't carry a fuel belt with me.  So it was good to have the "ever flowing" drinking fountain at the Alpine city park at mile 9, otherwise no drink or fuel.

Legs felt heavy and the run felt long.  Was hard to focus on any proprioceptive clue.  TT: 2:18:52.  AP: 9:44  (10:55 including the walk, 10:30, 10:13, 9:33, 9:53, 10:33, 10:45, 9:31, 8:55, 9:35, 9:36, 8:56, 8:54, 8:45, 8:21)

This ever flowing fountain sounds great! Take care of your knee a bit. I love those rolling hills runs; they feel restful on the legs for some reason.

Smooth, what time do you run? We should run some of these "seemingly long shorter than long runs" together. Time flies when you have someone to pass the time with. I love the Alpine area so I am always game for a run up there and I am due for a drink from the fountain of youth : D. Suncrest Oh Suncrest!! It surely has been abandoned. We must conquer it again soon!!!

Julie ~ I have been running in the mid-morning lately...not motivated when the body is so tired. I do get out earlier especially when the temp. gets warmer. This morning I didn't get out until close to 11am. I have been giving my neighbor his Lovenox shots every morning between 8-8:15. He and his wife love to visit, so takes up a chunk of time. Hopefully his INR (Pro time) gets back to range and he doesn't need any more shots.

I'd love to have your company to pass the time and miles with. You will have to slow WAY down for me though. I'm so bummed that I haven't run Suncrest this year. I'm kinda worried about the downhill wrecking the knees before Boston. I will definitely run it to train for all the other Utah Marathons though.

That fountain of youth water tasted SO GOOD today. It's about 5 miles from my house. LOVE IT!

Toby ~ The drinking fountain is on Main St. (the one straight north from Kohlers) and Center St., on the east side of the road next to the side walk right by the Park in Alpine. It has a stone structure surrounding it.

Smooth, you are amazing. I don't think my body would hold up to that kind of milage. I've been doing between 44 and 50 mile weeks, although this week will be a bit longer. I can't wait to see how all this exta milage improves your marathon time.
