Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What happened to my body this morning?!!  Some old old old lady possessed it,,,everything ached!!!  Almost talked myself out of running.  Got up way late.  Ate breakfast with Emi & Marianne.  In no hurry when I'm with Emi...but she kept saying: "Nana running?" :)  Dragged the "old granny self" out the door only to turn around within 0.2 mile!  Whoa, some wind was chillin' my achy bones!  Got back in the house to put on a jacket.  Emi had a puzzled look then a big smile; then blew me a kiss goodbye, for the 2nd time! :)

The knee hurt during the first mile...should I be smart and go home or keep running to see if the pain goes away?!!  Can't go home to disappoint/confuse Emi!  Stopped at mile 1 to stretch the quads and calves.  Knee felt fine going up Suncrest.  It sure complained a lot going downhill though. :(

Stopped at Ridgeline Elementary for pit stop and drink before continuing on to Alpine.  Stopped at *fountain of youth* for another pit stop and drink.  Turned around at mile 6, again stopped at Ridgeline Elementary for pit stop and drink.  Saw Karen running up Suncrest as I was running down at my mile 9.35 and her mile 3ish.  She had a late start too! ;)  Seeing her brought a little sunshine to my otherwise cloudy/gloomy run! :)

Ran the last 3.5 home at mp with headwind!  Emi was so happy to see me! :)  She *tackled* me with a big hug then promptly said: "WET!" as she always does when I come home from running! :)  I'm gonna miss her SO much when she leaves! :(

12.5 in 2:01:06.  AP: 9:40  Splits:  10:50, 10:16, 10:17, 9:55, 10:10, 10:07, 9:32, 9:23, 9:40, 9:02, 8:42, 8:42, 8:42

Going to dinner and BYU vs NM game tonight!  FUN!!! :)  GO COUGS!!!!

I don't know how you do it when you are feeling so lousy. I was super tired this morning, so I didn't do anything today, except watch American Idol.

How are you feeling today?

From RAD on Thu, Mar 03, 2011 at 15:58:19 from 67.172.229.125

Okay, here is the plan from your favorite Helga! Next time you are at mile 1 and your knee starts to hurt, but you don't want to disappoint Emi you just run to the nearest gas station/convenience store. Eat a donut or two, read a magazine then after appropriate time you run home. Both problems solved! :)

Hope you are feeling good today. Give that sweet Emi a hug for me, she sounds like the sweetest little thing!!

Rachel ~ Helga knows best! :) :) :) :) :)

You are too funny! Yah, Smith's just 1.5 miles from my house...good thinking! :)

Kathie ~ Thanks! I was surprised to see those splits came out dead on! It must have been the headwind! :)

Dale ~ You take care of your body. You've been working too hard remodeling the house...not to mention the stress fracture!

SSF ~ I'm so good at not being kind to my body! Sigh!

Dinner was great! The ball game STUNK!!! Those BYU boys better redeem themselves this Sat.

The body is feeling *ish* today! I'm gonna be sad when Emi leaves tomorrow! I need some serious SSF time! Miss you so much! I love you!

That's sad that Emi's gone! Good job on your run, I laughed while reading all the "old lady" stuff. Smooth, you will ALWAYS seem about 30 years younger than your real age, seriously!!!

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 06, 2011 at 12:33:00 from 67.2.85.101

Brooke ~ THANKS for your kind words! the operative word there is *seem about*! Hahaha! Someday I do feel like a 29 yo especially when I'm around you and Teena! :) :) :)

Seriously, I appreciate you so much! You cute girl you! When are we doing Chump run or lunch?
