Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Had a busy evening with meetings.  Went to bed late.  Got up with leg pain at 3/10 (was 7 on Sun., 8 on Mon., 5 yesterday).  So decided to go for a little run.  BIG mistake.  Pain got worse during and after the run at about 6.  Took one Advil, foam roll, massage, stretch.

I always thought that recovery runs are supposed to help with active recovery.  I seem to be adding more muscle fatigue to the legs.  The ITB started to protest as well with the weakened quads.  STINK!!!

STINK indeed.

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 14:16:52 from 67.166.99.8

DANG IT!!! SmoothieQ, what's wrong? I sure hope that the next few days this thing resolves itself and that your personal PT can help you get it under control for UVM and Ragner. However, on that note...don't do anything that will ruin you! I always think that I'd rather be able to run 3 miles a day for the rest of my life than one marathon. I know Teena will be able to tell you what is best...she's amazing!!

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 14:40:50 from 71.36.64.224

Rachel,

I am such an addict! Really not healthy to sign up for so many races. I shouldn't have RACED that Nestle 5K. I am paying for it now. Very foolish! I'm hoping two days of rest will get me back to running again. Don't know what to do at this point. THANKS for your support.

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 14:58:31 from 75.162.190.208

Smoothie, I'm so sorry to hear that pain is so bad. I hope that it feels better after a couple days of rest. If it's still bad by race morning, don't let me hold you back from pulling out of the race. I'll be alright running it by myself.

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 15:06:01 from 71.36.64.224

Dale,

I'm going to hydrate and carb load and rest these next two days. We'll see what happens. You will do great on Sat. The weather is cooler than expected; so that's a plus. You have been preparing well for UVM, you will have a great race.

From Maurine/Tarzan on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 15:57:39 from 63.255.172.2

Didn't you do the same thing before the last marathon? (shaking head in amazement)....

From AmberG on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 16:21:59 from 64.255.88.143

Smooth,

You are a go-getter, you'll pull through these annoying injuries! Get lots of good sleep and you're body will be on it's way to healing . . .

Good luck :)

From Teena on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 16:26:35 from 67.177.20.13

So Smooth ... how is your thinking right now?

If I were you I wouldn't even think about UVM until Friday ... at which time you will decide to run it!!! :)

I love you!!!

Just be careful ... and if you decide to not run UVM due to your commitment to Wasatch Back, know that is okay as well.

But don't think about all of this until Friday ... you know you will just keep changing your mind!!!

Teena,

How come you know me SO STINKIN' WELL??? That's what I love about you. You totally know what's in my head! BTW, Lowell is going to be runner #9 on my team at WBR. It's going to be a riot if I make it next Sat. LOVE YOU! Are we still on for Fri.? I haven't "talked" to Kelli yet. LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

From Teena on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 16:37:58 from 67.177.20.13

Yep!!! We are still on!! 6 on the west side. I talked to Kelli. We will do i, then r, then b. Sound good?

Of course I know what is going on in your head ... we're soul-sistahs!

Very cool the Lowell will be there!!! I am jealous. You two will have so much fun!!! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 17:37:06 from 71.36.64.224

Teena,

I'm so excited for Fri. i,r,b sounds fantastic. STUDY HARD! Your professor isn't very generous, is he? At any rate, I know you'll Ace your Chem. exam tonight. Sending smart vibes your way.

Lowell totally rocks. He's so funny! LLL LLL LLL

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 17:52:36 from 67.166.99.8

HA! I'm excited Lowell is going to run with you. Sometime when your team catches mine I'll have to 'race' him on one of our legs :)

Enjoy all the UVM excitment ladies!!!

From Teena on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 17:56:48 from 67.177.20.13

About my prof's generousity: the answer yes and no. His stuff is hard ... but he knows it, and he adjusts the final grading scale a little bit. Not enough to make me feel comfortable ... but it helps. He doesn't grade on the curve. But you only have to be in the low 90s for an A unlike all my other classes where you had to be at a 94%. So ... I don't know. But I will tell you this ... he's stinkin' smart and a runner!! How cool is that? And ... it's Human Physiology, not chem ... just has a lot of chem in it! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:10:03 from 71.36.64.224

Teena

Human Physiology is my fav. You must have a lot of biochem. in it. That's one tuff class to take in a regular semester. You're taking it in a short summer term making it even tougher. I am so proud of you.

It's way cool that your professor is a runner and of course he has to be smart. Does he know that YOU are a runner and very intelligent?

Alright, no more distraction. I will pray for you! You're gonna blow him away with a high 98%. Then we can celebrate on Fri. LLL LLL LLL LLL

Rachel,

Aren't you runner #9 running the Ragnar leg 33? We start at 1:00pm. What time does your team start?

From RAD on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:16:41 from 67.166.99.8

Yea, I'm #9. I just emailed Lowell to challenge him :) We start at 10:15, so we are much slower than your team. They start the slowest teams first so everyone hopefully finished around the same time. We'll have to hook up at one of the rest points.

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 18:21:26 from 71.36.64.224

Rachel,

Cool! But wouldn't it be crowded if everyone finished around the same time? There are hundreds of teams. Sure hope we can hook up at some point. You know I'm blind as a bat in daylight. You'll have to yell out to me when you spot me dying on the side of the road.

From Bec on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 19:49:56 from 67.177.35.60

STINK, STINK, STINK!!! I am so sorry. This thing is acting up because it is marathon week...it knows what it has to go through on Saturday. BABY that ITB Smooth. NO running, and take it easy on Saturday. That course has a lot of down hill in it, so be EXTRA careful.

From JulieC on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 21:00:45 from 63.225.237.200

I ditto Bec's response. Your leg knows what your mind is trying not to tell it--- another marathon in less than 72 hours. No more running until then you hear? Just watch some funny movie and treat yourself to a couple of smoothies, smoothie.

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 22:00:15 from 152.216.7.5

Smoothie, maybe youi better skip running the next two days and see how you feel on Friday.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 00:50:38 from 71.36.64.224

Bec, Julie & Dale,

Thank you for your wise words and kind concern. Right now I can't run even if I wanted to. I have been rolling my quads and ITB like crazy. OUCH!!! Hurts like heck. I'm a wimp! I hope hope hope that the thing heals in time...please!!!

From Teena on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 10:40:28 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

We need to re-think tomorrow. You should not be running. We can still do the i and b though.

What do you think?

LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

From Rhett on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 12:15:00 from 170.215.58.122

Smooth, listen to Teena. Take the day off and do what ever "i and b" are though.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 12:54:37 from 71.32.237.137

Teena,

Good thinking. Even IF I could run...you would have to be walking and I'd have to sprint, that wouldn't work very well.

So no need to pack running clothes, then. :) Can't wait to see you bright and early. LOVE YOU!

Rhett,

I need to listen to Teena more often. She's the smart one and keeps me out of trouble. I have been looking forward to i and b...absolutely doing i and b for very good reasons.

From Teena on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 13:50:47 from 67.177.20.13

Can't wait to spend some time with you and Kelli! :)
