Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What time are you shooting for Smoothie? I'll be volunteering @ the finish line, just wondering when to look for ya.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 10:55:52 from 174.23.172.155

THANKS girls for the well wishes.

Kristi ~ I will be ecstatic if I finish in 4:15. But most likely 4:30.

From auntieem on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 11:08:33 from 24.18.77.246

Good luck and have fun! You are just a marathoning powerhouse lately.

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 11:51:27 from 67.42.27.114

You are so awesome. Looking forward to seeing you.

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 11:53:02 from 67.42.27.114

I'm confused on the packet pickup, does everyone have to go in person?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:01:56 from 174.23.172.155

Paul ~ The latest email says to show photo ID, I think. So may be someone can pick it up for you if they have a copy of your ID.

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:03:04 from 67.42.27.114

I guess I should read those emails. :)

From JulieC on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:35:26 from 71.219.45.37

Hi Smooth!! I have a conflict. I am signed up for the UVM. I signed up in early April when they flashed the low low price and I didn't know if I was in the race for Squaw Peak or not. I just let the cat out of the bag to my friends two days ago. I KNOW I won't be racing it and would really love to run it with someone (like you : D)at 9 to 9:30 pace but it probably won't be wise to run it at all. Do you know if they let you switch to the half? Even then I would just run it an easy 8:30 pace. The problem is I really rather be there at the end for Melanie too and the half would be perfect since it starts at the same time. When I signed up for the marathon the half was already full of course. See how insane I have gotten?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:44:40 from 174.23.172.155

Julie ~ Call or email Hyrum, he is very

very nice. I am sure he will let you switch. I know PG-Gary will suggest you volunteer instead. either way come and support Melanie.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:48:37 from 174.52.45.85

I had the same question as Paul. It seems like they would have to make some sort of backup plan for those whom live far away, etc.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:56:00 from 174.23.172.155

Flatlander is flying in the night/early morning of the race from TX, I think. He made arrangement to have someone pick up his packet.

From JulieC on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 13:03:49 from 71.219.45.37

is Hyrum's email the UVM "CONTACT US" email?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 15:52:56 from 174.23.172.155

Julie ~ Yes, that's the one. They are very good about responding to emails. I met Hyrum at their booth in Ogden. he said he spends hours a day answering emails. AWESOME RD!!!

If nothing else just beg/charm your way at the packet pick up.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 15:55:19 from 75.162.190.206

I will be picking up my packet when we arrive in on Friday.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 17:15:37 from 174.52.45.85

SSF --

I think I will go to the packet pickup this evening. When are you going?

Paul --

Do you have a conflict with picking up your packet? I don't think they will let me pick it up for you, but I could certainly ask. You might have to email me a copy of your DL. Let me know.

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 18:32:21 from 67.42.27.114

Thanks for the offer.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 21:44:21 from 174.23.172.155

SSF ~ Jeff is going down to see his girlfriend. I just sent him down with my DL. Hopefully they'll let him pick it up for me. He just left one second ago at 7:26.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 21:49:16 from 174.23.172.155

SSF ~ Funny you called just as I was posting this. Thanks for picking it up for me. LOVE YOU. See you bright and early Sat.

Good luck, hope to see you there at some point.

From JulieC on Fri, Jun 11, 2010 at 00:08:15 from 71.219.45.37

Expo is not an Expo. It is just a packet pick up with four small tables (booths), runners-corner, little caesars, that special energy drink and that's it. Odd. And you don't get your t-shirt until you finish. And they can't switch me to the half, its against UDOT rules of number of people allowed on the road as they went over cap and figure even with dropouts they will just barely be okay there. So I will run with my number but not my timing chip for the 1/2 marathon. Whatever. Then pick up my shirt and watch the Women (and men) Top Runners come in and then go home to sleep. I work until 4am Friday night and then work again Sat night. Good luck Smooth and everyone in the marathon!!!

See you all tomorrow. I'll be running the half. Better run in rain boots and carry umbrellas.

Where's your race report young lady???? :)

And where did you disappear to after I grabbed my steak fries????

Love and miss you!

From Smooth on Sun, Jun 13, 2010 at 11:00:39 from 174.23.236.38

SSF ~ Race report forthcoming...I can't write short and sweet and awesome report like you do! :)

I went to get my chip cut off, then had to go to the bathroom real bad, so Prez. took me to Sears. Then he just ushered me out of there.

SSF ~ Did I ever thank you for picking up my packet, for driving me to the start, for putting up with my silly antics, for being there at the finish, for being my SSF? I just LOVE YOU!!! I am so happy for your PR! So HAPPY you run pain free and doing so awesome!
