Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Lovin' the EZ!! Now, I want you to go back a year and look at what you considered and EZ day. Then you just try to tell me you are not getting MUCH faster!

How many miles of hills are there after mile 17 at Boston? ARe they steep like in Veyo? or the incline up past Veyo? How long until it's flat? Does the race finish flat? I'm trying to make a mental picture for myself of what it will take to finish Boston. I ran crazy steep hills today because it was all I have, but wonder if there is anything else around that approximates those 'heartbreak hills'? Also, are hill repeats as important, or not as important as speed work? What do you think?

From LuzyLew on Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 17:54:26 from 208.187.197.42

Actually, I just looked it up and wikipedia has a really good description!

From Smooth on Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 18:09:39 from 174.23.198.220

Luz ~ The hills are between mile 17.5 to mile 21. There are 4 hills, one of them is not very noticeable. They are not steep like Veyo. The only steep one is the last one but it's rather short and it's dubbed Heartbreak. The other ones are mild in comparsion. The BAA website has the course and profile map. It isn't the steepness or length that kills. It is where it's at. Most people are fatigue around mile 18-20. Mile 21 is downhill into Boston College's screaming crowd. It is the sweet reward before the final grind into Boston Commons!

You did awesome on the hill repeats. Hill repeats are tough speed workout. They make you strong. A lot of runners rather do hill repeats than speed workout. Not sure if one is more important than the other. I think if your legs (achilles, glutes for the uphill, quads and calves for the downhill) can handle them, they are WONDERFUL speed work in disguise! Not sure if all this make sense.

Kelli ~ THANKS! You are too NICE!

Rachel ~ That YogaX is one of the P90X dvds. It kicks my bum bum. I was sweating buckets. It was not at all what I thought it'd be.

Jeff ~ THANK YOU! How ya doing?

Kathie ~ Really? You did? I am SO SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED! Do you have your seat assignment? I hope you sit next to me, then we can have a sorta sleepover party or take the AdvilPM together. Marcie is a row behind, I think! WooHoo, giggling grannies strike again!!!
