Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Didn't beat the storm which wasn't that bad.  Light snow, wet road, slight breeze, not sure about the temp, probably in the low 30's.  Wore stablyx tights, l/s Boston08 shirt, Boston09 jacket, gloves, cap, headband to cover the ears when heading into the wind, sunglasses.

Ran the bench loop twice stopping at the house after the first loop to use the bathroom and drank 16 oz gatorade.  Splits: 10:16, 9:44, 9:30, 9:40, 9:38, 9:31, 9:29; 9:43, 9:32, 9:19, 9:02, 9:03, 8:40, 8:38, 8:39, 8:38.  AP: 9:24.

Thoughts during the run:  next season's running goals, Alex, my kids, grandkids and running friends.

A lot of miles there smooth you must be recovered from your Marathon. I hope your running thoughts were good.

Great running thoughts. I wish I could have seen you in the outfit you described, you always look so cute when you run. How are those tights by the way? I need some at a discounted price. :)

From Smooth on Sat, Nov 14, 2009 at 14:27:26 from 174.23.240.142

Kathie ~ most of the thoughts were good and happy ones. I was a little worried about Alex though. He's in the hospital b/c they found blood clots in his lungs yesterday.

Becca ~ You will love the CWX tights. I wish I could wear them year round...great muscle support! I have 4 pairs, only paid full price on the first pair which was my b'day present from prez.

nice run Smooth! way to brave the storm and keep the miles consistent! So...is a 50 miler in those 'goals'???

From Teena on Sat, Nov 14, 2009 at 18:08:40 from 174.52.45.85

Hey SSF --

Very nice run! Glad that the majority of your thoughts were good ones. I am so sorry about Alex though. Are they going to have to put that mesh stuff in to prevent them from moving to the heart? My dad has had a couple of pulmonary blood clots -- they are scary. :( Makes me sad that a teenage boy has to go through all of this.

Anyway ... I love you!!! Have a great day and give Alex my best.

Nice run and the cold weather gave you a great excuse to wear all that Boston gear. It was about 60 for my run this morning and I decided to sport my 2009 Boston shirt even though most were wearing short sleeves. I figured it was cool enough and I hadn't really had a chance to wear it yet.

It's gonna be tough to top this year's running accomplishments, Smooth! Any insights on your 2010 goals? 60 by 60 still on a radar? (you might have a 100 by 60 at the rate you're going :)

From Smooth on Sat, Nov 14, 2009 at 23:58:15 from 174.23.240.142

Rachel ~

A 50 miler did cross my mind!

Teena ~

No mesh! Too invasive! The blood clot is lodged in the right lower quadrant of his lungs so basically it's not going to go to the heart. He's put on Louvenox shots twice a day. I guess it's a more stable anticoagulant therapy than Coumadin since he has to have lumbar puncture once a week. He's a tough kid...takes no pain meds nor sleep aids. The prednisone makes him insomnic. He runs 40 mpw.

THANKS for your concern. I'll tell Gary, Lily and Alex. LLL LLL LLL LLL

Rhett ~

You're SO FUNNY! Sporting your Boston long sleeve in 60 degrees!

I just LOVE the Boston wardrobe! Can't wait for the 2010 gear to come out!

Marc ~

I'm just trying to keep up with you for the number of marathons!

From Teena on Sun, Nov 15, 2009 at 09:37:13 from 174.52.45.85

Man ... he is tough!!! Wow!!!

Does he have an email address that my family could use to send him our well wishes? I have thought about having the kids make him cards, etc., but I am so nervous about germs. Kids are always carrying some little virus with them this time of a year and so I am a little paranoid even with that. Or do you think that would be okay?

From Smooth on Sun, Nov 15, 2009 at 13:46:49 from 174.23.240.142

Teena ~

His email address is alexjlew@hotmail.com. He can have regular mail/cards too. His blood counts have been good. He received the H1N1 vaccine on Thur.

THANKS for your kind thoughtfulness!

Great run Smooth. I've been spending a lot of time lately thinking about 2010 running goals too. They seem to change from week to week. I also spent time this weekend planning out my race schedule. It is difficult to sort all of that out. Good luck.
