Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Easy run with Wendy, Karen (Sky).

Swim lesson:

1.  Kick board breaststroke leg kick and flutter kick with kickboard 3 laps each.

2. Worked on breaststroke leg kick.  Need to keep legs/hips above water and knees close together.  At one point I was drawing huge circles with feet and not going anywhere.  Hope Sam's mom wasn't watching from the kitchen window or she'd be rolling on the floor laughing her guts out! :)

3.  Backstroke.  Still couldn't keep water off my face.  Once I realized my legs need to kick twice as fast as the arm stroke I was able to keep the body more horizontal and higher in the water.  The neat thing is I could breathe above water.  The not-so-neat thing is I could not keep a straight line...I swam diagonally across the pool.  In fact, on my first lap I hit my right arm (triceps) at the edge of the pool and got a nice size hematoma.  The swim cap made it so I couldn't hear Sam yelled "Stop!"  Waaaaa! :-0

4.  Freestyle.  First lap forgot to breathe out and my heart rate went wild and had to stop to catch my breath.  By 3rd lap I was able to get a good breathing rhythm going but still need to work on head turn position so I don't choke on water.  I was getting really tired by 5th lap.

Ed Week 1st class:  "Clothed with Power and Authority" - Preaching the Gospel in the Spirit World.  2nd class:  Change Common Love into Charity.  3rd class:  Multimillion Dollar Choices - Turning Major Personal Expenses through Great Personal Choices into Dramatic Future Financial Reserves.

Went to see baby Skylar.  At exactly 24 hrs old, she was tracking our voices with her eyes.  She is a perfect little angel.  I just love holding her! :)

I ABSOLUTELY love reading about your swimming lessons. They put the biggest smile on my face. You are going to be able to swim the RIGHT way ... and you are going to be AWESOME! I am SO impressed!! Are you starting to enjoy it somewhat?

Luvs and lugs! :)

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 16, 2012 at 21:34:12 from 75.165.251.74

I can't say I enjoy it quite yet. I am just learning the feel of being in the water. It is still quite foreign to me. It's going to take a lot of practice before I get the hang of it. I really want to learn how to swim the RIGHT way and am okay with not being good at it yet. :) Lots of luvs and lugs to you too, sweet sistah! :)

Such a hoot to see your swimming lessons. Such humility.

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 16, 2012 at 21:57:55 from 75.165.251.74

Paul ~ yes, my swim lessons are quite comical. Good thing it's a private lesson and my instructor is a very sweet 15 yo. She must try really hard to keep a straight face and not bust out laughing! Am pretty sure I'm her first student to flunk swimming, not to mention the oldest. My little Primary class, 5-6 year olds, said last Sunday when I told them I'm taking swim lessons: "You don't know how to swim? And you are a grown up! That is very funny!" Yah, very embarrassing, not to mention humiliating! :) :) :)

From Rhett on Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 10:21:53 from 170.215.58.122

I bet those little primary kids love you. What a blessing to get to teach them. I go to primary signing time once a month and talk to them for a while. It is my favorite Sunday of the month.

Sounds like, once you remember to breath you will have the swimming thing down.

From Rhett on Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 10:22:56 from 170.215.58.122

Ok that is singing time. We don't have a bunch of deaf primary kids and I don't know how to sign. :)

From RAD on Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 12:11:19 from 98.202.23.178

Smooth, I don't think you have any idea how well you are doing on your swimming! I am daily impressed with how much progress you are making!! Seriously. Next up...bike, then we will do a tri!! :)

I just caught up on your past couple days! How fun, with the new baby and swimming and running friends. So jealous!! I've just been dealing with kids and crazy all week...I'm in desperate need of a break. I'm in breakdown mode and haven't had enough recovery time! yes, mentally.

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!! I'm going to text you soon :)

Congratulations on your new little grand-daughter!

That finance class at education week sounds interesting. Any super secrets you can pass along?

Great job on your continued swimming efforts!

I keep checking to see if your PCM report is up yet. I can't wait to read the details. The few minutes I had with you was definitely better than nothing but NOT enough.

How is your heart today?

How are your shins?

Luvs and lugs. :)

From Teena Marie on Mon, Aug 20, 2012 at 20:54:06 from 71.219.159.37

Just checking again.

From Toby on Tue, Aug 21, 2012 at 10:31:48 from 199.101.229.6

You must be busy with all your swimming and new grand-baby to write a race report :) Can't wait to hear about the party!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 21, 2012 at 16:31:54 from 75.165.251.74

Rhett ~ still laughing about your comment: "I don't have a bunch of deaf Primary kids." I bet they LOVE you, and you're a FUN AWESOME bishop! Have you ever told them you're a SUPER HERO too? And if they don't behave you can show them your ripped P90x bod and guns! Hehe!

RAD ~ don't think I'll be doing any Tris with you. Don't you remember I can barely run, and still trying to learn how NOT to drown, plus I don't know how to ride a bike! However, I'd love to watch you do your Tri or have Lauren show me how to not drown.

QP ~ Do you have the grocery store, Aldi, in your area? It's a great concept grocer, no frills, low price, small amount of choices, very efficient, save you lots of money. Hope one is coming to Utah soon. Anyway, that finance class has great saving principles that can help you become a millionaire. :)

Thanks for the encouragement on my continual swimming effort. I've only had 6 lessons, never had any swim lessons prior to this. I need lots more lessons and practice. My little instructor started school today so I don't know when I'll have lesson #7.

Teena ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH for spending the few precious minutes with me on Sat. It meant SO MUCH to me! I know it was a sacrifice of your time to wait SO LONG for me to finish! You ran a PERFECT half on Sat. and looking great for Xterra and SGM! Can't wait to see you ROCK those races! :) :) :)

I've been crazy busy with family stuff, new grandbaby, 7 yo grandson having unexpected neurosurgery, etc. Anyhow, I just posted the PCM report. Love and miss you!:)

Toby ~ Haven't had swim lesson since last Thurs. but have been busy with other family stuff. The PCM party report is up! You ran an AWESOME Hobble Half. So so so so proud of you! :) :) :)

From The Quiet Pirate on Tue, Aug 21, 2012 at 16:57:32 from 71.54.62.185

Smooth- yes, we do have Aldi. 25 minutes away, so I have only been once. I would agree with the good prices. Their store brand Mac n cheese was actually good enough for my refined "Kraft" only brand. I can see that savings could be found there- just need to make every trip count.

I am going to read your marathon blog now!
