Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I was SO excited about the prospect of running this morning that I woke up before 6 and just laid there quietly so as not to wake hubby. A few min. later I sneaked out of bed and got a whole bunch of morning chores done. Kissed hubby goodbye to let him know I'm meeting Karen and Wendy...then out the door I ran like a kid on Christmas morning! :) Naughty but nice! :)

We ran east to Alpine greeted by a beautiful sunrise! It was a bit breezy but running uphill felt wonderful! We stopped at the everflowing fountain to drink and gu. The return trip was fine until we hit the downhill...the entire right lower leg was NOT happy! When we stopped at the traffic light briefly and resumed running across the Timp. Hwy my knee really complained! Stink!!! The last mile home was tough. Wendy's neuroma was bothering her too so was Karen's heel. We were quite a happy hurting trio! :).

Foam roll and stretch but no ice massage because I was freezing! :/

Went to the outlet mall to do some Christmas shopping. Legs felt like I've run a marathon. Sitting for a late lunch made the knee hurt bad! I am going to be horizontal while I fold laundry and watch movies this evening! :)

Oh Smoothie, it's terrible that you can't run pain free.

From Smooth on Fri, Dec 07, 2012 at 18:19:19 from 67.2.119.62

Hi Dale! I know what I'm getting into before the run! I was just hoping for a miracle. The pain was well worth it because sometimes NOT running is more painful! I admit it is a sick addiction! :)

From DaleG on Fri, Dec 07, 2012 at 18:23:21 from 152.216.11.5

I totally agree. :)

From Rhett on Sat, Dec 08, 2012 at 10:08:10 from 74.41.239.14

At least the pain didn't come till the last few miles of the run. Have you ever thought about doing a shorter run when you're nursing an injury? :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Dec 09, 2012 at 08:33:57 from 65.130.23.160

Glad you were able to run. I am certainly loving Rhett's idea!! :)

My last final is on Tuesday. Perhaps we can meet up somewhere, put our heads together, and create a plan. :)

Are you still planning on the Day After the End of the World Marathon?

Luvs. :)

Hi Smooth! Reading about your running report made me smile. You were all excited to go running?

Sounds like it was a beautiful morning and you held up in during the painful miles.

I will be in Utah next week, let's run!

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 10, 2012 at 15:21:18 from 71.35.231.124

Rhett ~ yes! You are right on! A shorter run while nursing an injury is the SMART thing to do! I think I am in denial...

SSF ~ yes, I am still planning to show up at the Day after the End of the World marathon! I plan to do the Galloway thing and see how far I can cover. May be I will finish the Half?!

I love to get together during your winter break! You are so sweet and kind to always think of me and to help me! I leave on the 19th. Let me know when's a good time to meet! Love you and miss you so much! :)

Bec ~ I only ran on Mon last week...so yep, I was literally dying to go for a run by Fri. even though I knew I would be in pain towards the end!

I am so excited you are coming to UT! I'd love to go for a run with you, however I don't think I can keep up with you even on your slowest pace! :(.
