Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

It was a crazy busy weekend so I had to do my medium long run today.  I've been running solo these days because Wendy has some osteoitis in her SI and pelvic region causing pain during and after run so she has stopped running for over a month now.  We go to water aerobics on Fridays.  Anyway, today's a blue sky sunny a bit windy (10mph WNW wind) beautiful Fall day.  Legs are tired and felt like lead the entire run.

Hi Smoothie! I hope your legs are feeling better today.

Good luck at the Canyon City Mary! Looks like the first half of this mary is pretty sever down hill, at least a 4000 ft drop in 13 miles.....

What's new Ms. Smooth?

From Smooth on Sat, Dec 16, 2017 at 22:15:18 from 75.169.203.49

Hi Slick! My legs were trashed in the Canyon City Marathon. Yep, the first 13 miles were quads destroyer...that 4000' drop was brutal then the uphills in the second half were merciless. A month later, I still feel tightness and all kinds of knots in my quads and calves. I signed up for the Woodlands Marathon in March on Black Friday weekend sale in my moment of weakness while visiting my son in New York. Anyway, my daughter is running that marathon for the fourth time. We signed up and along with the same registration, paid for a 12 week training program (an on-line coach). The workouts in this program is very challenging. So far I haven't been able to hit the pace prescribed. This terrible inversion smog along with my recent cold/cough/asthma has made running outside very difficult.

Another new thing in 2018 is I've registered to run in Marcie's Ragnar team in April in Southern California.

Congrats on your 5:30:07 at The Canyon City Marathon, that had to be a tough one with you running 6 marathons in the last 6 months this year! Now you have about 3 months to get ready for the Woodlands Mary in March and then follow it up with a Ragnar in April! "You da Woman"! I would beg Marcie for a spot on her Ragnar team but I'll be in Boston in April.....When you see or hear from Marcie next would you give her my phone number and ask her to please give me a call!

Smooth - How’s that New 12 week training program working out now and which marathon are you parlaying it into?

From Smooth on Sun, Jan 07, 2018 at 22:34:24 from 75.169.203.49

Hi Slick! I'm running the Woodlands Marathon in Texas on March 3. The 12 week training program is okay. The coach, Dan Green, put this training plan together based on Jack Daniel's running formula. Three challenging workouts a week consist of VO2 max (800m or mile repeats), threshold or tempo run, then all the long runs are run at marathon pace. My goal is just to finish under 5 hours and hopefully get faster over the next 6-8 months.
