Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Stayed up late painting, busy day.  Didn't go run until at dusk.  I admire those who run after work.  It was tough going the first mile.  Everything hurts.  Finally got in the groove after 1.5 miles. The beautiful sunset, crisp fall air made it worthwhile.   Easy 4 miles in 38:37.  Splits: 10:42 (yikes), 9:34, 9:21, 9:00.

Amazing Smooth. Wow, where do you get the energy? Great workout!

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:04:46

Thanks!!! Jon. I almost didn't go run. This blogging thing is virtual peer pressure.

Hey, are you the JON who's coming to the Sat. run at JRP by Thanksgiving Point?

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:08:37

I am a Jon that is coming to run Sat am. I'm really excited to meet everyone. Hope I can keep up.

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:11:18

Cool!!! Hope to see you before you take off 'cause that would be the only time I'll see ya. I heard you're the leader of the pack. I will be the one at the back of the pack.

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:13:29

Ha, who was pulling your leg? Leader of the pack, that is funny!

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:16:27

Hey, I just saw your last blog with that scary crazy driver. You're fast AND quick!!! :)

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:20:22

Yeah that was scary. I've been thinking that I am going to start a tally at the bottom of my entries that show the # of near hits, and # of times I get to tip my hat to a driver for paying attention. Some days it would be 5 "NHit" to 1 "HTip".

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:28:08

I have a few close calls myself. Usually it's when the driver is coming to a "rolling stop" and only looks left when he's turning right and I'm running against traffic. I even hit the hood hard one time.

I can imagine where you run in the busy streets of west Orem, you have to be on high alert.

Be careful out there.

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:31:29

I've hit the car door before. I was just reading one of your blogs, do you run Murdock Canal often? I need to run that now that I have a gps. I stopped running it because I really like to know how far I run and at the time I didn't have a gps. Fun "road", not many cars!

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:41:51

I run the Canal just south of SR 92 on the Lehi bench a lot in the summer when the dirt is dry and pack. Once I tried running it from Lehi to PG and was lost. I should check that out again with a gps.

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:45:49

I have run it (without gps) from N. Orem up to AF - seems like the Temple is not far from where I turned around. I like that road.

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:51:07

From AF to Lehi along the Canal is a good 8 miler. Not sure the distance from N. Orem to AF. I LOVE running along the Canal, no traffic, sometimes there are wild ducks.

From jona on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:54:13

Thats the best, when you see the little duck family swimming down the canal. Makes the run enjoyable. This time of year I like the trees up the canyon, makes me appreciate where we live!

From Smooth on Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 23:57:47

Yeah, I agree. Utah's outdoor and its four seasons are what makes living here so great. I love running on the crunchy fall leaves this time of year. Then again I love running on fresh fallen snow and retrace my foot prints on the way back. It's the greatest playground on earth.

From jona on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 00:01:28

We do live in a great place! I can't see me moving!

Have a good night, I'm off to bed.

From Smooth on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 00:02:14

Good night and sweet dreams. Happy Halloween!

From Kimmy on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:09:02

When I have run that canal road in Orem I always get stopped by a closed gate (I usually start around Word Perfect's old buildings) is there a better place to start?

From JeffC on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:15:38

Wow, what a workout! I understand what you mean about running in the afternoon. It just feels different when you are not used to it. It also seems like I never have enough energy.

From Teena on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:17:32

Wow Smooth!!!

What an awesome workout you had last night!! You are such a DIEHARD!!!

I love you ... have the Happiest Halloween Ever!!

From jona on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:25:25

Kimmy, There are a couple "closed" gates along the canal road. The one just north of Word Perfect is always closed, but there is a trick. About 20 feet in front of the gate is a big metal post inside the post is a button that will open the gates, then after some time (I don't now how long, I have walked through and made it just fine though) the gates will close.

Happy running, Happy Halloween!

From Cal on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:10:36

Nice well-rounded workout Smooth. You're awesome!

From Kimmy on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:55:08

Thanks for the info....I will try running the canal again.
