Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Thanks to Lowell and his networking, the Spanish Fork Half RD emailed me the name and number of a podiatrist that his running group recommended.  I called him this morning and got an appointment this afternoon. :)

Dr. McKell took history of how I hurt my foot and asked: "You hurt your foot during the marathon?" "Where was this at?" "You kept running with a hurt foot?" Hehe! :)

He had me push my foot against his hands in various resistance; positioned tuning fork on different spots of the foot; examined the edema and palpate the length of the 5th metatarsal; pin-pointed the ouchie spot; did 3 views X-ray of the foot.  The verdict:  stress fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal.  The sentence:  NO RUNNING for 2-3 weeks.  I have to wear THE BOOT in my waking hours.  I have to see him in 2 weeks.  The prognosis:  he says the sf site has a relatively good blood supply so it may heal quicker...good news!!! :)

My cold actually feels worse than the foot.  Head hurts with every cough.  Lots of icky expectorant.  But, I think this is the peak of it, and I should start feeling better soon! :)

Good news on the foot, but bad news about the cold. I hope it doesn't turn into pneumonia, since you have asthma. Take some well deserved rest, Smoothie. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. lol

Sorry about the stress fracture, it was almost predictable from your descriptions of the pain. Looks like you have just enough time to relax a few weeks, which might be good anyway given your hectic racing schedule, then top off for Boston.

Dale ~ thanks! the cold will be over in a week at the most! but the stress fracture will take much longer. I have done nothing but sit around and read!

Flat ~ yeah, the only race I've signed up before Boston is Antelope Island so I most likely will not run that one and keeping my fingers crossed that the foot will heal up enough to limp around Boston!

Chad ~ I don't think I will be in great shape by April...but holding on some small miracle that I may still be able to run Boston.

i agree with chad -- you have plenty of time to make it to boston in great shape. this down time will allow everything to heal -- a nice little "reset" before picking up training again. the fitness comes back quickly. never give up hope -- the body is amazingly resilient. all the best to you! :)

Good luck on your recovery. Glad to hear it wasn't worse. The boot is great fun, I've done in before, but mostly during sleeping hours.

Tim ~ doc. said no running for 2-3 weeks then he will evaluate it again after that. He said most stress fracture takes 6-8 weeks to fully recover.

Davy ~ Yikes, sleeping with the boot on would be torture. How did your visit with the ortho go today?

Oh my goodness Smooth! :( See what Texas will do to you? I read your race report and was about crying for you. That marathon was far from being ideal, so sorry.

I'm sorry about the injury. You are in such good shape that taking 2 weeks off won't hurt you at all.
