Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

This morning while contemplating what to do, Karen texted me:  "No messages yet from you ladies.  Are we bagging running today?  Is it too nice and warm in bed?.... :)"  Yah, should've stayed lazily in the warm and cozy bed!  Hubby and I ran to meet Karen.  Wendy went to clean the temple.  At least one of us is industrious!  Haha!!! :)

With two days of no running I thought the knee is good to go.  Nope!... at mile 2 it started to nag, then when I stopped for a mere 2 seconds to wait for Karen to get a little rock out of her shoe, the knee hurt immediately when I started back up.  It was ok for the remainder of the run (avoided any decline/downhill or sudden stopping).  Passed the house just a little shy of 7 miles so I kept going (silly OCD!)  Then I immediately stopped running as soon as the Garmin says 7 miles and proceeded to walk home.  WHAM!!!  I was hit with a sharp pain and had to limp home (thankfully it was only 0.15 mile)! :(  When I reached the garage I wanted to stretch the quads but couldn't bend the knee without pain.  Aaaaagh!!!! :( :( :(

Changed clothes quickly and went to the pool with hubby.  Karen got there before us. The limping really slow things down, lol :)  Spent 45 min practicing drills and swam 4 laps.

Myrtle 10 reps.

Goucher/Flanagan core w/ Swiss ball.

Stretch.  Stretch.  Stretch.

Ahhhhh....maybe it is time to go on a mission :) I'm SO SO SO sorry you are having such a hard time. You are such a dedicated runner and I know that injuries can be so frustrating. Hooray for all your loyal friends sticking by your side :)

The pull you must be feeling to run when you know you should rest must be unrelenting!! Wish I had a magic pill that would heal that cute little knee of yours.

Lotsa Luvs. :)

Oh Smooth. I hate to pull a Helga on you, but I think you probably need to take a week or so off! Ice massage that baby 3-4X/day. Roll out the quads and ITB and get that swelling down. I know it will be hard, but it is better than having chronic pain!

I hope you get healed up quickly. That is no fun!

Baby that knee. Keep swimming. Sounds like you have a big party planned for Boston in April. You don't want to ruin it with a bum knee.

Toby ~ believe me...I 'd pack my bags and go tomorrow...but hubby has to finish serving (less than 2 years remaing) as Stake President. :). Thank you for your encouragement!

SSF ~ yep, rest is a four letter word that should not be taken lightly! Wish my stinkin' knee would behave! :) I need to figure out how to tape the owie which is at the top of the fibula! Any idea?

RAD ~ I am NOT good at this! You can go helga on me! :)

Hi there Kirsten ~ I will heal...just takes longer at my age I guess! Thanks! :)

Rhett ~ you know what? Larry is the one who looks forward to Boston. Come to think of it, HE is the reason I picked up running 7+ years ago and Boston holds a special meaning/place in our hearts...more than just a running event...it is a celebration of life and our love for each other. :)
