Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Up at 6 to run with Larissa and her friends, Beth and Julianna.  Temp was in the low 40s, calm, full moon w/ a ring around it.  Walked for .25 mile to Julianna's as warm up.  Did some gentle stretches and off on the cement road we ran.  The girls wanted me to observe their strides and gaits. They wanted to know about running form, intervals, cross training and anything about running in general.  Larissa and I did couple of intervals of 1 min. on/off.  Before I knew it, we were done.  I really wanted to run some more.  But not feeling well and short on time, I decided to walk home with Beth and Larissa instead.

Got the grandkids out of school at noon so we could spend the day in Houston, visiting the Discovery Green Park and Weather Museum.  Not feeling well, achy and a little chilled. Picked up Brandon from this office in downtown and went to edge of Chinatown for a very nice Chinese dinner.

Feeling tired and achy by the time we got home in the evening.  It started to rain at night.

I don't like to read about you feeling sick and chilled just days before a marathon :( I hope you are feeling better and that the race doesn't run you into the ground. But, then again - you ARE superwoman. I shouldn't be worried :) Glad you are having a great time with Larissa!!!

Larissa and Julianna are lucky to have such a knowledgeable coach.

I bet you guys had a blast in Chinatown. Just hearing about that makes me sad I won't be in Boston to go to dinner with you and Larry and the gang.

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well! If you have time before you leave, try eating at Free Birds. They have AWESOME Tex-Mex! The only thing I miss about living in Texas is the Tex-Mex :)

Rachelle ~ you are so sweet! Everything about this race will be first time ever for me, the State, the month, the terrains, my daughter driving me to the race and waiting for me (she"s never been to a marathon), hubby not there, running with a congested cold... anyway, I am happy to be running. And thanks for worrying about me!

Rhett ~ these young mothers are so teachable and enthusiastic about running! I am so excited and made me appreciate the ability to run.

Toby ~ good tips! I may have to find a Free Bird tomorrow after the race.

SSF ~ not feeling better...am coughing more tonight! I will be ok though!

Slick ~ your saying "little orphan Annie" made me laugh! :) you are so funny!!! :) Seriously this race is for such a good cause that I will run happy even if it kills me! :)
