Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

60 min sweat fest on the elliptical, watching Man on a Mission, a  GREAT running 55 min documentary I highly recommend!!!  :)

Here's the good news from the follow up visit at Dr. McKell's this morning.  He examined the foot and had me push against his hand's resistance.  The only discomfort/tenderness was at the base of the 5th metatarsal when I pushed my foot outward.  Another X-ray was taken to compare with the ones 2 weeks ago.  He pointed out the area where little calouse has formed at the base of the 5th metatarsal.  He said I am healing at a very good rate.  Generally bone fracture takes 6-8 weeks to heal...but for a healthy person such as me...it can heal as quickly as 3 weeks.  WaHOOOO!!! :)

His recommendation is that I should remain in the boot for another week, mostly when I'm up for lengthy period and when outdoor.  When indoor/at home I need to wear sturdy shoes, NO bare feet.  I can begin walking this week.  And if no pain or discomfort I can introduce running in the mix next week!  How much and how soon is entirely up to my own judgement.  He cautioned the risk of re-injury, so I need to take things slowly.  He said to see him in two weeks but if things are heading the right direction then there's no need for another visit!  We then spent the next 5-10 min talking about running and bare foot running and my son's residency in Cleveland!  :) :) :) :) :)

So, here's the plan of action.  I will continue with my cross training on the cardio stuff and add walking on an incline treadmill.  I think I will borrow RAD's post-boot-TM workout! :)   THANKS RAD for being my *trail blazer*.  Hope I'll heal well enough to run Spectrum so I can complete the SG Runner Series.  And may be... may be well enough to run/walk Buffalo 25K that I have signed up for!  :)  If all goes well...I can do Boston with a goal to finish! :)  I'm SO happy! :)

Remove old wall paper from family/living room...another test of patience and endurance. :)

Evening:

Too tired to do CSE...so did Yoga instead!

**************

Foot is a bit achy tonight.  Should've kept the boot on while biking and ellipticing.  Wearing an old pair of Mizuno Nirvana (the sturdiest shoes I could find) the rest of the day was not helpful either.  Stink! :(

I'm afraid 11 days of cross training on elliptical that is too big for me with one boot on has done more damage than good.  My left biceps femoris and the ligament proximal to the knee are inflamed.  It was hurting fierce last night.  Being an idiot, instead of taking a rest day, I got back on the thing hoping it was just a fluke!

70 min elliptical without the boot.

  • 15 min incline 35 resist 3
  • 15 min reverse incline 20 resist 2
  • 15 min incline 30 resist 3
  • 25 min incline 20 resist 2

70 min TM.   Felt the pain more while walking than running...what the?  Abandoned the initial plan of walking @6 incline and just selected two pre-programed workouts.

  •   #1 ~ 30 min (max incline 6, max speed 6mph) 2.09 miles
  •   #2 ~ 40 min (max incline 10, max speed 4.5mph) 2.53 miles

Foam roll and stretch.

Paint the wall panel in the living/family room.

Hubby was SO excited when I asked if he'd go for a walk with me!  :) :) :)   I suggested the 5K route to Smith Marketplace and back.  He held my hands especially over icy spots.  ♥♥♥  LOVE the nice leisurely walk with great conversations.  He said we needed to fuel at the turn around so we stopped to have pancakes, eggs, muffins and hot chocolate at Burger King.

After we got home, hubby did his strength training in the form of shoveling snow.  I did 3 easy circuits of CSE, foam roll and stretch!
