Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I love Sundays!!!!  To me it is a day of rest from running/training, working or worldly pursuits.  Now that I'm not running/training, I get to truly enjoy the peace, to worship God and to serve without feeling the "recovery pain".

My lesson in Primary today was "I can show gratitude".  It is amazing how many blessings the little 5 year olds are grateful for!  They make me smile and laugh! :) :) :)

Bryan came home from D.C. tonight.  Jeff and Jenn joined us for dinner and we watched Mirror Mirror afterward.

Looking forward to run with hubby tomorrow morning! :) :) :)

:) :) :) :) :) NEW MONTH!!!! NEW SHOES!!!!  NEW RUN!!!!  :) :) :) :) :)

I have been looking forward to this day for the last 43 days!!!!  I finally get to run with my hubby!!!! :)  I put on the brand new Inspire 7 that I purchased last month.  My podiatrist son advised me to go back to the Inspire which has more cushion and stability than the Elixir.  I laced it loosely so it doesn't cause any pressure at the top of the foot and tarsal joints.

Hubby's plan was to run around the block which was perfect for me since I don't know how far my foot would let me go.  I followed the Pfitzinger's Return to Running after Stress Fracture schedule.  I began with 10 min. walking while hubby ran ahead.  He turned around at the corner of 3200N 600E to meet me as I began my 5 min run/5 min walk cycle.  It was as if I had to learn how to run all over again.  But so nice to have my love's company.  Soon I was running a tad faster than him.  He would keep on running when I walked.

We ran into Karen and her sister and bro-in-law on Center St.  They were just starting their 3 mile run.  She invited me to join them but I told her I'm not ready to join her but may be tomorrow.  It was such a boost to see her.  :)  Hubby and I ended up finishing the 2 mile block in 28+ min.  I was in the run cycle and felt pretty good so decided to go around the block one more time.  I glanced at the Garmin couple times and saw some low 9s pace however the walking pace was 17-20ish.  The left hip also felt clunky during the walk.  When I passed the house I was in the run cycle so ran around the small block behind my house to finish the run/walk in exactly one hour, 4.65 miles (14:14, 12:44, 13:07, 11:44, 12:05)

Ate breakfast with hubby on the deck.

Foam roll the legs, stretch, pay extra attention to the tight pelvic girdle.

2nd day of running/walking with my love.  We headed west towards Karen's house hoping to meet up with her and her sisters.  Started with 5 min walking.  Why does everything hurt during "warm up"...the left quads, the hip flexors, the hammies?  It is no wonder people don't want to run.  The first step is the hardest.

Didn't ever meet up with Karen.  So I decided to take hubby on Bull River to 1200W and check out the Murdock Canal Trail.  I told him it's only 3 miles so he agreed.  When we reached the hill up 1200 W, we assessed the trail in order to use the tunnel to cross 1200W.  WaaLaaa!!! the trail is PAVED!!!!  I got SO EXCITED!!!!  But the bathroom at the end of Bull River is not opened, (thus the drinking fountain is off).  Thankfully there is a p-o-p that hubby could use.  We turned back on the trail and hubby started to question the mileage.  He had planned to run 2-3 miles total.  We had already run 2.4 at the turnaround, now approaching 3 miles, ooops!  He accused me of deceiving him into running more.  I tried to explain that when I said 3 miles, I meant ONE way!  :) :) :)

Hubby's running 12-13 pace so he urged me to run my own pace (9-10) and walk back to him during my 5 min walk (in case he gets ambushed and chased by some women!).  It was getting hot.  When we reached home, I was in the middle of my 5 min run cycle, so I ran around the little block behind my house and finish with a 3 min walk back to the house.  Total 5.45 miles in 1:13:47.  I am so proud of hubby running farther than he had planned.  Other than one accusation of me deceiving him and loosing him [he said he now knows what Lowell meant when Lowell said I "lied" and "disappeared" while running with him in a marathon! :) ] he didn't complain and kept on running.

Will do yoga later.

Went to Gunnison with the fam. for 4th of July celebration, parade, carnival, rock climbing at Maple Mountain.  I didn't climb, just hiked around the dry rocky riverbed and watched my boys climb.  I was surprised that walking on rocks with my Kinvara was quite pleasant, like my feet getting a massage. :)

There're over 60 family members as every year on the first week of July the cousins (my nieces and nephews) do the Inouye Creative Art Camp for children.  It is pretty amazing!  It was so good to see family visiting from D.C., Hawaii, Calif, Colorado, AZ, Idaho and Hong Kong! :)

Hubby and I ran to Karen's house for the first mile.  Then Karen, Brian and I ran 4.5 miles east to Smith and back via Canal Trail.  Temp was cooler with overcast sky and breezy. Did 3 min walk 7 min run.  Very glad that Karen and Brian didn't mind doing with me as well.  5.5 miles in 1:06 AP: 12:00.

Spent all afternoon making dinner for 22 people.  Feet are pretty tired now!

Ran with hubby and Karen to 600W up on Canal Trail, down on 1200E.  Did 2min walk 8 min run.  Everything hurts during the first mile so took it easy.  After bidding Karen goodbye by Center St. I turned around to jog home and heard a "Smooth!" calling from behind.  It was Bec!  She jogged me home.  So GREAT to see her! :)

Looking forward to RHPC tomorrow!  Will wog a 10K or less.  I didn't run it last year because I ran the Bryce Canyon Half so it's been a long time since I've seen some of my RHPChickas! :) :) :)

RED HOT PINK CHICK 15K

Hubby and I picked up Karen and Bec at 5:45 for the drive to the start of the RHPC run.  I giggled when I saw Bec wearing a long sleeve SGM shirt over her running outfit, yep only a TX RED HOT Chick would be "freezing" in 60ish temp. :)  It was so good to see RAD, Lily, Kelli, Scott, Wendy, Heidi, Rachelle, Eric, Maynard, Amy... did I miss anyone.  Was sad/disappointed that Luz didn't come.

After hubby snapped a quick pix of the Lehi girls + RAD, we were off to start the run at 6:30.  Hubby and I hanged at the back with a 2 min walk 10 min run.  Around 0.6ish mile by the Riverwoods sidewalk, Wendy and Kelli past us, Scott stayed to visit for couple of minutes.  Hubby urged me to run on ahead but I refused to leave him.  I jogged with him giving him pointers on running forms until we reached the mouth of the canyon.  Hubby said he needed to use the bathroom in the gas station and will turn around to head back so don't wait up for him.

There's a good headwind going up the canyon as usual.  It felt wonderful to be running uphill passing runners/walkers and being passed by cyclists.  I think this is only the second time that I've run up the Provo Canyon all by myself.  I continued on with the 2 min walk 10 min run thing paying attention to how the foot feels.  The legs/hips/feet protested only during the walk.  I guess I could "hear" them better while walking.  It felt so good to be running that I ran past the 3.1 mile (turnaround of my originally planned 10K run).  I thought it wouldn't hurt to run to 3.5 and make it an even 7 miler.  At the back of my head, I could hear hubby saying: "Don't over do it!"

I was in a groove and ran past the 3.5 mi turnaround, so I thought I'd run to 4 mile.  Well, at 4 mile, the body felt pretty good, the watch said I have another 3 min of running.  Did a quick math that if I run to 4.65 I can make it a 15K run.  Yay!  I was still in running cycle when I turned around.  Boy did that feel good to run downhill.

I was at mile 5.8 when the walk cycle supposed to start, but I wanted to see how fast I could run that mile so I kept running to 6 before walking.  That mile took 8:38...YES!!!  I had drank the entire 12 oz water I carried so I stopped at the fountain for a quick drink and refilled half the bottle.  When I reached 9.3 at the park, I stopped the Garmin and walked to the pavillion where hubby was waiting.  His first words was: "How far did you run?"  I kept walking and pretended I didn't hear him.  When I finally answered him, he of course was not surprised I ran farther.  He then proudly told me that he also didn't turn around at the gas station after the potty break.  He ran further up the canyon past the second bridge and ran all the way back without stopping or walking.  He got a taste of "cruising downhill". :)  I'm so so so so proud of him!  ♥ :)

9.3 miles.  AP: 10:30 (13:24, 12:14, 10:56, 10:37, 10:19, 8:38, 9:33, 9:42, 9:42, 8:57)

First ones we saw running in were Scott and the girl whose name I later learned was Amy.  Almost everyone run farther than the half.  LOVE the YUMMY eating and FUN visiting afterward.  I will try to post some pix later.

Pre-run. Doesn't everyone look chirpy?

Post run.  Doesn't everyone look radiant?

Smooth sandwich. :)

My sweet running buddy! ♥♥
