Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

After Jon's last night reminder of the Murdock Cananl.  I decided to run the Canal trail this morning.  I ran the trail a lot in the summer on easy days.  It's packed dirt, uneven terrain.  There are couple of gates but they're never closed.  I always wonder if I was breaking the law as there're "no trespasses" signs posted.

I ran west on Bull River Rd till I reach the trail access on 1500 West, just south of SR92.  I love running east on this trail.  The canal is dry but the view of Mt Timpanogos and Alpine Lone Peak is spectacular.  There were no ducks today, just lots of birds.  I saw a little chickadee on the opposite side of the canal.  It started running "with" me for a good 100 m.  It was fun to watch the "cadence" of those little twiggy legs.  It made this high pitch tweetie noice the whole time we were running together.  So fun, now IF ONLY I had feathers, I'd be a chickadee runner.

6.5 miles in 1:03:30.  More taping and painting today.

*** I just notice that my total weekly mileage is the same as my sleep time. Weird.

I know it's off the subject/topic of running.  Just asking...

On Monday when I picked up my son at the high school I saw this little turtle walking in the road in front of the school.  It would have become a road kill if I hadn't seen it.  Now I'm wondering if I did the wrong thing by bringing it home.

What do turtles eat?  I think my turtle is either depressed or very shy.  She/he hasn't eaten anything.  She/he likes to hide underneath the lettuce leaf I gave her/him for food.

How do you tell the gender of a turtle?  Can turtle hear?

Hey Kimmy!!! Where's your blog???

So good to hear from you. Next time you come this way, give me a jingle and we'll run together.

Speaking of which, will you join us for tomorrow's run on the parkway west of Thanksgiving Point? Pretty please... I need a "sisterhood fix"!!!

From Camille on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 14:06:01

Smooth - I don't know anything about turtles, so I can't help you with that; however, I wanted to tell you I loved reading your story about your run. It sounds like a beautiful trail!

Smooth...Nice run on the trail. Sorry I can't help you on the turtle issue. We had a pet turtle a couple of years ago and all it ate were goldfish. I'm sure it was an entirely different turtle.

Goldfish? The cracker or the real thing? Man, I hope my turtle is a vegetarian. I can't stand the thought of feeding it anything that wiggles.

From DonGardinero on Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 14:57:48

Smooth...Yeah, I think the turtle we had was something like a red slider turtle. It stayed in an aquarium with a few inches of water and all it ate were real goldfish. I don't know about other turtles, but this one was hard to have as a pet because it carried salmonela. It always smelled bad, too. We finally had to sell it back to the pet store.

Did you notice your turtle had red eyes??? Or a red mark on its head by its eyes?

GREAT to run and chat with you today. It was the PERFECT Saturday run, followed by a delicious breakfast with friends. Glad it wasn't cold, or we would have had to all climb in the car to eat.

We MUST do that again soon!

It was nice to meet you!!! I just read your profile and I went to BYU_Hawaii too! After I got married to my first husband, Tevita Folau we moved to TVA and then became Dorm Parents in Hale 3! When were you there? I was there in 74 and then from 78 to 82 I think, gosh, that was a long time ago! Great Memories! I love Laie!! I hope to see you again! Please tell Wendy to get on the blog!!! She said she was worried about spending too much time on the blog!

From Smooth on Sun, Nov 02, 2008 at 10:47:06

Kelli -- Wow, you have good eye sights. Yes, I had seen the red marks. I think he's the red-ear-slider kind.

THANK YOU for running & chatting w/ me and Wendy. And for the delicious muffins. I had a great time. Teena's right...I LOVE YOU already.

How's your knee?

Leslie -- It was nice to meet you. Sorry I didn't have a chance to chat w/ you. No wonder you look so familiar to me. I was there from 73 to 76. I stayed in Hale 1. I'll have to dig out the yearbook. Yes, that was a long time ago. I was in Showcase Hawaii, what a fun carefree time.

I'll talk Wendy into getting on the blog. She's the most Christlike person and always busy serving.
