Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Didn't get home from the MS Dinner of Champions 'till 10pm.  Needless to say no yoga or core last night.  Was so sleeply and tired!  But it's tempo/Temple day!  Have I ever mentioned I LOVE tempo day?  Seriously, I love it!  Suppose to run 1 mile easy 6 mile @ 8:28.  Here goes:

9:57 (warm up, lead legs), 8:30, 8:13, 8:17, 8:22, 8:28 (right on! how about that!),  9:00 (warm down).  7 miles TT: 1:00:50  AP: 8:40

Off to the temple. 

Question:  I'm supposed to run 13 miles @mp on Sat.  But I'm planning to run with my friend (1st time marathoner) from mile 14 (bottom of the canyon) to the finish at TOU.  She is shooting to finish in 4:30.  I think she can do better.   Anyhow,  her pace will be slower than my mp.  So, should I run my 13 @ mp tomorrow (Fri)?  Or should I just forget about it.  What to do?

I would just run with your friend and enjoy it. You have put in so many MP run that I think this last one really wont make a difference. You are SO READY for SGM.

Hmm very tough decision. Right now that one is really a big run and confidence booster for you. It would be best that you ran your 13 at MP so that when race day comes you know you can do it and your body will know how that feels. And also you got to think that she will probably fade some from mile 18-20 till the end.:( Very tough call Smooth. But I would for sure not try to do your long run on Fri after that tempo run. You would risk injury to close to your race.

What a great temp run! Amazing paces! I can not get those kind of paces on my own (not in a race). I don't know what is wrong with my legs these past two days, but I was so dead (even slower than yesterday). As for Saturday, you totally have it in you to do what you need when you need it (referring to speed for SG). I'd just take Saturday to enjoy. You've run so many great work outs, you are going to nail SGM.

Nice job Smooth!! I'd have to agree with Huans. Hard decision whether or not to do the mp, but risking overuse injury at this point isn't worth it. Just do a few mp tomorrow then enjoy Saturday!

Hey Smooth how about running the first half of TOU at MP pace then taking it down for the second half to your friend's 10:20 to 10:45 end of marathon pace? What's one more marathon? Why break it up between two days? Smooth? Smooth, I am kidding. My friend Kim is in the same bind. She hasn't run nearly as much as you so she is doing MP with me tomorrow am (13 miles)and running the second half at TOU Saturday with a first time marathoner. It can be done but for you I would recommend opting out. You have been going and going. Just do 6 at MP tomorrow. Have fun!!!

Great tempo run..you always hit your times!!!

Here's what I would do at TOU. Starting at mile 14 run with your friend...only instead of running beside her...run circles around her. You will actually be running MP, but still fulfilling your friend obligation...you'll also get in at least 13 miles (or maybe even 15)...genius!

You're so ready, not running 13 at MP won't hurt you at all...Have fun..like you always do, and I can't wait to hear your race report (even though you're not racing...I'm sure you will meet lots of nice people and spread cheer along the way!!!) :)

Thanks everybody for your kind comments and wonderful suggestions. I just posted what I ran today (Fri.). I have full intention to pace Mary to the finish at TOU. I just hope she will be patient and run the first 14 miles according to the pace chart I made her (4:15) If her legs are good; I will pace her at the 9:09 effort for a strong finish. Stay tuned!
