Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Either my body is finally getting used to the idea of running 2 MLRs a week or the recovery run yesterday did some good; or may be my cold is getting better; today's run felt GREAT.   Legs felt fresh, there's no wheezing nor coughing.  Felt like I could run forever.  I guess I will stick with the 70/18 plan.  I will scale back the mileage though at the first sign of over-training.

11 MRL in 1:42:18.  AP: 9:18.  Splits: 10:37, 10:07, 8:49, 9:17, 9:17, 9:17, 9:02, 9:09, 8:59, 8:52, 8:46.

Had a VERY FUN lunch today.  Now off to clean the house.  I'm hosting a Primary Presidents Breakfast and Training at my house on Sat.

Go Smooth. This will be my off week so its up to you girl to pull us through :D. Great run and splits!!!

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 17:29:11 from 66.239.250.209

Good to hear that you're feeling better. Don't ya just love that feeling that you could run forever? It doesn't happen to me often, but that means you're in incredible shape.

From Kathie on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 17:44:41 from 63.248.105.188

Great run and so fun to see you today. I will get everything ready for Lake to Lake.

From RAD on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 18:55:44 from 67.172.229.125

So, I'm finally humbling myself and admitting to my ignorance...what does MLR stand for? You had some GREAT negative splits and it shows that you're feeling good.

Oh, and as a side note - I think I'll drop by to that president training on Saturday :) For one reason or another our stake training has been canceled for nearly a year now...feeling empty!

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 19:05:26 from 174.23.217.47

Rachel ~ MLR = Medium Long Run (any run of 11-15 miles). It is supposed to reinforce the physiological benefits of long runs.

We do two Leadership trainings, in April and Oct for all the Primary presidency, music and nursery leaders in out Stake. In Jan. we do a breakfast/training for the presidents only. It gives the presidents opportunity to share with each other ideas as well as correlate the use of the buildings for the wards that share the same building; such as the bulletin boards and nursery toys, etc. It is also a good time to give the presidents a vision for the new year. We find that they will share more freely in a casual home setting than at the church. We have 14 presidents plus 6 of us board members so it's perfect to host it in a home on a Sat morning!

From RAD on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 19:09:31 from 67.172.229.125

FOURTEEN WARDS?? Holy cow! I can't believe you haven't had your stake divided yet. I thought 10 was the maximum, goes to show what I know :) That actually sounds like a GREAT idea. I feel like I'm always on the phone the first of the year trying to coordinate everything! I hope you have a wonderful time - as always I'm in love with your commitment, creativity and general amazingness!! :)

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 19:19:07 from 174.23.217.47

Our Stake has 15 wards, one is a Young Single Adult so they don't have a Primary. The GA will split if we have enough numbers of members...hopefully we'll reach that this year. Our wards average 120 children (age 4-11). Some wards have 4 nurseries.

We are constantly training and communicating with our wards. We do quarterly phone interviews and newsletters. I'm visiting Primaries almost every Sunday. I LOVE it! The best and biggest organization is Primary!

From Bec on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 19:27:36 from 76.23.55.210

That is a lot of ladies in one household. Good luck. Nice MLR today. I didn't know what that meant either RAD. Makes sense to me now.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 19:41:14 from 174.52.45.85

Just a quick, "You are the coolest person I know!!!!"

Love you!!! You are kicking some trash with all of those miles. You look GREAT btw!!! We totally should have gotten some chocolates!!!

Love You!!!

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 20:56:18 from 97.49.27.18

Wow you are tearing it up.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 07, 2010 at 23:54:35 from 174.23.217.47

Julie ~ I will try my best to fulfill the duty of VP! Seriously, I know you will feel better by Sat. and ramp it up like crazy in no time!

Scott ~ Patience! It will come! Believe me...I had MANY doubts for the last 3 weeks if I could heck this high mileage thing.

Kathie ~ THANKS for the GREAT lunch today! We need to do that regularly and with Kimmie too.

I'm SOOOO EXCITED about Lake to Lake! THANKS for setting it up. It's gonna be SO FUN!!!

Bec ~ Yep, 20 women in the house; that's why Prez and the boys are going skiing to get out of our way!

SSF ~ I was laughing so hard inside with your "surprises"! SURE WAS FUN!!!

NO, I do not NEED chocolate although I WANT it so bad!!! SO! What's your plan for Sat.? LOVE YOU!

Paul ~ Hi!!! SO GOOD to have you back! I have missed your blogs and the fun posts!

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:02:03 from 174.52.45.85

Hey SSF!!!!

The kids have basketball games at 10, 11, and 12. We actually have two games at 10 ... so ... who knows!

What are you doing? When? Where? How many miles?

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:12:56 from 174.23.217.47

I am planning 18 miles. Early afternoon. Where do you want to run?

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:16:03 from 174.52.45.85

I am afraid that I will be too late. By the time I am done it will be well into the afternoon. :(

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:20:36 from 174.23.217.47

How late in the afternoon?

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:23:59 from 174.52.45.85

I probably wouldn't be done until 1:30ish.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:27:56 from 174.23.217.47

That's not too late if we start running then.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:29:47 from 174.52.45.85

Okay ... how should we do it? :)

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:32:13 from 174.23.217.47

Can you be all dressed to go? You can call me when you're leaving Payton's game so I can meet you at your house as soon as you get home! Either that or tell me where to meet you to start the run.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:36:26 from 174.52.45.85

Yes ... I can be ready to go!!! I will plan on it! I am so so so excited! :)

I have not ran 18 since SGM, hope I can pull it off! :)

I was going to run a few recovery miles tomorrow ... but maybe I shouldn't. I want to be smart with my miles. What do you think I should do tomorrow?

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:42:05 from 174.52.45.85

SSF--

Just talked to Ry. He said that Payton wouldn't mind if I miss just one game. So ... if you want to go earlier let's do that! Then I will have actually more time WITH the kids when all the games are over to do stuff.

Either way ... you tell me. If I did that I would be able to run as early as 11:15ish.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:49:39 from 174.23.217.47

SWEET! My meeting will be over by 10:30.

I haven't done 18 miles since Hoover Dam. We can play it by ear. I know we can do it!!!

Tomorrow you can run a short recovery run. I think Pfiz has you doing a 4 miler. Don't go any farther than 4 or faster than 9:30.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:52:35 from 174.52.45.85

Deal!!! I am so excited!!!

Okay ... I am going to go watch the Golf Channel and have some cereal with Ry! :)

Love you!!!

Let the bed bugs kiss you! :)

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 00:54:56 from 174.23.217.47

Have FUN w/ your property time! :)

LOVE YOU! :) :) :)

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 01:05:28 from 71.219.89.82

Nice workout today, I am so glad to hear you are feeling so good!!!! And I am super happy that you were able to get out with friends and enjoy a nice lunch, that always makes life good (one of my lunch partners was grumpy and the other was acting like a spoiled child---oh wait, she is!)

What is the 70/18 plan? 18 weeks with a max mileage of 70????

I got my new shoes today, they ship them FAST!!!! And I got a nice free reusable bag, love that!

Have a marvelous weekend, I hope the primary meeting goes well.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 01:11:13 from 174.23.217.47

Kelli ~ YAY for the new shoes!!! What color?

You're correct on the 70/18. It's Pete Pfitzinger's schedule. I have done his 55 max mileage schedule for the two previous Boston. Thought I'd try the 70 this time.

The hardest part for the meeting was cleaning the house. I loaf housecleaning!

We need to do lunch again soon. I promise I won't be grumpy, no promise on the spoiled part though! :)

From vinh on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 06:31:23 from 75.77.22.187

Another impressive run Smooth! Keep up the miles, I see a Boston PR coming up.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 09:53:24 from 174.52.45.85

Where are you guys buying your shoes??? I wonder if they have mine. I need to get some. :)

From Rhett on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 11:14:13 from 216.67.211.75

Smooth, I think your body has just adapted to all those long miles. You are in amazining shape!!

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 12:23:09 from 174.23.217.47

vinh ~ THANKS for your vote of confidence!

SSF ~ Check www.runningwarehouse.com. They have 2009 models clearance sale. I LOVE their 2 days free shipping and also guarantee return.

Rhett ~ It took 3 weeks for the body to adapt. I just hope I can handle the 60+ mileage w/o self-destruct. I also worry about becoming slower instead of faster. So much to learn and think about!

From Kelli on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 13:28:23 from 71.219.89.82

I got the purple ones since I already have the green ones, BUT I did notice that the newer model for 2010 is PINK so I can not wait until they are the OLD model and I can get them!!!!

You are awesome, you are such a great runner. With how awesome you are, who cares if your house is clean????

From Mack on Fri, Jan 08, 2010 at 14:43:24 from 71.111.182.118

Nice workout Smooth. You are sure going to be ready to fly at Painters. Now I can add MLR to my vocabulary (along with that quad muscle I learned from your post a few days ago)
