Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Friday PM:  My legs, feet were dog tired from the hike UP Timpanogos Cave and the knees majorly trashed on the hike DOWN carrying a backpack full of water bottles and jackets yesterday afternoon.  After the hike we walked around Tibble Fork carrying baby Jett looking at squirrels and chasing butterflies.  :)

The little *splash* from AFCanyon1/2 couple weeks ago have GROWN plus a few more splashes and remnants of mudslide.  But I think it will be fine for the Timpanogos Half in couple of weeks.

Anyway, the feet took more abuse from standing around in high heels on concrete patio visiting at my hubby's Mission President's 50th wedding anniversary in the evening.  Didn't have dinner until 9pm after we got home and took family pictures in my backyard.  Said goodbyes to my Texas grandkids and their parents before going to bed.  By the time I went to bed at 11pm I had serious doubt that I could get up and run in the morning.  But can't bail on my friends since I agreed to drive.

Saturday AM:  Woke up at 1:40, 2:45, 4:00, finally out of bed to get ready.  Larissa came upstairs to say goodbye (the rest of the family still in bed); they are driving home, a 24 hr drive, this morning back to Texas!  :(  Picked up Wendy, Carolyn and Karen and met Maynard, Kelli at the start of the RHPC for our run up Provo Canyon.

The run:  temp was surprisingly cool.  As always we had the strong canyon headwind going up.  I didn't dare look at my Garmin to see how pathetically SLOW I was!  I am so grateful to have such great company to run with.  Kelli, Maynard and Karen were so good to neither *push* nor *pull* me (see Kelli's Fri. blog).  The miles just flew by.  Wendy and Carolyn turned around at mile 6.5 since they only needed 13.  I thought about cutting my run short but kept going since the knee felt good on the uphill.

Made a pit stop at Vivian Park, again grateful that they waited for me before running up South Fork, the steepest portion of the run.  Was fun to run into Jeff and Mark who were just cruising down.  Karen only needed 16 but I talked her into running 1/2 more mile then another 1/2 more.  We got to mile 9 where a park, bathroom and water fountain magically appeared. :)  Kelli gave me some Gu chomps, mmm yummy! :)  That was just what I needed,  the dreaded quads-burning, knee-screaming of downhill running didn't happen.  The sun came out but it didn't feel hot.  I was able to finish strong.  Wendy and Carolyn waited patiently at the finish where Wendy brought us chocolate milk and blueberry muffins!  YUMMM!!!!  Thanks Wendy!  :)

THANK YOU Kelli, Maynard and Karen for running with me!  My 18 miler would not have happened if it weren't for you!  You guys are DA BEST!!!!  It was a FUN MAGICAL RUN!!!  :)

Nice seeing you. You all looked strong running up that canyon. Nice job.

THANK YOU!! I love running with you and company! And I love that trail, I wish it were closer to my house.

You finished more than strong, I thought it had turned in to a race---you took off!! I am so glad that you were feeling good. GU Chomps are miracle workers!

Thank Wendy again for the chocolate milk and the muffin! That was so good!!!!

Jeff ~ It has become a tradition of sort! I always see you running down whenever we run up Provo Canyon! :) You and Mark looked great this morning!

Kel ~ I didn't mean for it to be a race at the end! Just thought to myself: the sooner I get to the finish, the sooner I get to Wendy and the chocolate milk. AND YES, I believe your GU CHOMPS were the magic maker this morning!

Oh, Karen loved all the running tips you shared with her! We are just in awe of your talent and awesomeness!

THANK YOU so much for running with me, oh and for the *push*! :)

From Kelli on Sat, Jul 09, 2011 at 18:10:07 from 71.219.100.205

The race at the end was a race to the potty for me! Darn bladder can not go more than 5 miles! I had fun trying to catch you, but you ran PAST the bathroom!!!

I am no expert at running, but I am slowly figuring out how to stomach food and drink while running. Hopefully something I told Karen will work for her!

Smooth: there's no such thing as a bad run when you're there. Thanks for the invite! Let's do it again!

:( I always miss the best runs!

I did have fun camping, but hated missing this one. Sounds like a wonderful run and don't worry about pace - remember it's about the journey and not how fast we get there! Glad you were able to get out despite a crazy Friday!!!

Hey I saw JEFF too at South Fork water fountain. I stayed about 20 seconds but Mel and Julie talked to them. I ran the trail back down, they ran the freeway. My way was DEFINITELY THE HIGH WAY :D, figuratively speaking. So peaceful and shady. Too bad I missed you all.

That is a very good run this morning, hope you got a nap today with company gone.

Provo canyon sounds like a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. Good job getting in your long run on a day after not gettng much sleep.

That reminds me, I haven't done the Timpanogos Cave hike yet this year. It is such a fun family like, I need to put it on the agenda.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 10, 2011 at 12:53:27 from 67.2.116.1

The spark is back in your running!!! You are amazing!!! Can't believe you can do all of that on so little sleep.

Love you, SSF! :) :) :)

Maynard ~ THANKS for coming to run with me! I am still debating on DNews. Either way, I hope to run some of it with you!

RAD ~ We missed you! But knew you had fun! I don't worry about pace except that I hate to slow everyone else down! :)

Flat ~ No nap for granny even when the company and grandkids gone...busy busy day...did I ever tell you our house sits on an acre and most of it is lawn? Yah, needless to say, I always have a hard time staying awake at church the next day. :)

bye-wing ~ You have got to hike Timp Cave. But go early, it is so crowded during the summer!

SSF ~ It was the company that made the run possible! I don't think I could've done it without them. Love you too! :)
