Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I might be failing the FIRST training program 'cause I went out for a run instead of rest/XT.  O, but it felt so GOOD!!!  I was going to run 3 easy miles and swim.  After the first warm up mile, I changed my mind.  I ran up to the Murdock Canal trail.  It was a beautiful morning on the trail.  I forgot to re-able the Garmin for 1 mile (lap) alert from yesterday's workout; so no mile split.  I just ran by feel.  There's no soreness or aches to speak of.  The run got progressively faster.  I LOVE run like this, no slave to pace or distance.

Wow, you, Jeff and Andy all had great runs today! I hope that you it keeps up for everyone!

Have a great day at the temple and lunch. What temple do you go to? My mom works at Timp on Thursdays.

From MrsFIT on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 12:35:22 from 24.2.68.35

Have a wonderful morning at the temple and a special afternoon with the girls :)

Kathie,

Mt. Timp is my temple. I usually go to the temple on Thurs. You have to tell me your mom's name again. No wonder when I met her a few times at the races, she looks so familiar to me. I'm terrible with names and faces.

Today I'm going to the Jordan Temple though. We need to talk more about the B'day party!

Kristi, my friend!

You have to join us for one of these girls dates.

Congrats on a happy run Smooth. Enjoy the temple.

Great job on the xtraining day.:) You can do a easy run on that day too. Just make sure it is easy. So that you recover from the hard run the day before. You did just fine.:) Hope you have a wonderful day today.

From AmberG on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 13:27:19 from 64.255.88.143

Enjoy your day Smooth! You naughty girl for running today . . . ha ha ha just kidding, I love those runs w/ no times or expectations, just the love of running. I agree w/ Huans that it can count as cross training as long as it is easy for you. I'm looking forward to see how this training schedule works for you. . . thanks for sharing!

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 17:15:48 from 71.36.86.86

jun,

THANKS! It was a happy day! Hope yours is great as well.

Mark,

Really, I don't have to bike or swim to Xtrain? It was an easy run. Thanks for the feedback. I was beginning to doubt my ability to stick with the FIRST program.

Amber,

How was your hike in the narrows? Hope you had a COOL and fun hike. I'm curious if this FIRST schedule works for me, we'll see.

Sounds like a perfect day for you! It will be fun to see you Sat.!!!

From Huans32 on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 18:12:40 from 138.64.2.76

Yea, you dont have to just bike or swim. Its just doing a active recovery. The first time I did it I was training with a personal trainer 3 days a week and 3 days running. So resistance training. Worked out great. I just find the biking so good with just flushing all the soreness out. And its fun too.:)

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 18:20:51 from 71.36.86.86

Biking is fun if you know how to ride. I think I'd looked silly riding around the 'hood with training wheels on a little girls bike. LOL :)

OK, I will look into resistance training. It sounds like a much safer alternative. Any suggestions aside from hiring a personal trainer or signing up for gym membership?

From Bec on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 18:43:24 from 67.177.35.60

You are awesome! What a great run you had. It was worth missing out on the swim :). How did the young women thing go last night?

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 19:10:43 from 71.36.86.86

Bec,

The YW thing was GREAT! We did not expect that many girls to come. There were people standing out in the hall 'cause the whole R.S. room was full and we ran out of handouts (I think 50). The girls were so sweet and so impressionable. They laughed at every little thing I said. They were all excited to do the 5K. Couple of the leaders want to train for a marathon now. Man, I hope I didn't mislead them into thinking it's a piece of cake. It was a fun meeting and I think they came away feeling like they too can run. We're gonna have a 5K on 9/ll evening on the JRP.

Awesome job Smooth on your round the world ab workout. You doing just what you should for your xtraining. That is xtraining.:) You dont have to do anything more really then what you are already doing. Just dont hit it so hard that you cant do your main 3 days of training. Because your going to need to be ready for it since they are harder. And the xtraining days do the swimming, biking or easy run is great.

You really should consider going to that spin class with Bec. You would be safe and have someone to ride with. Just remember "YOUR A RUNNER FIRST". I had to keep reminding my dad of that. He just loves to spin.

The Smoothie queen went to Smoothie King!!! Love it...yum!

From Smooth on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 15:41:55 from 71.32.236.21

Teena, Dale and Marc,

Smoothie King is a real cool nutrition center. Their smoothies are grouped according to your needs, Trim Down, Rebuild, Indulgence, etc. I met the owner of Smoothie King on my flight to Iowa. She was the flight attendant. We chatted the whole time she wasn't serving drinks. She gave me a coupon for a free Smoothie at her new store, located right in Lehi. They sell all kinds of health food and supplements, cookies and muffins besides smoothies. I had the Tropical Impact, fresh mango, pineapple, passion fruit, mixed berries and protein. It was YUMMILICIOUS!

Mark,

Thanks for the affirmation. I really appreciate it. Your words of counsel and support helps me feel more comfortable and confident in following the FIRST program.
