Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

It was a long day yesterday babysitting.  The parents and kids didn't leave until after 8pm.  I had 7 Primary pres. to do phone interviews with after 9 pm.  Didn't go to bed 'till midnight.  Woke up at 4:30 am with no motivation to drive to Draper for the Suncrest run.   Stayed in bed till 6 am and went with the scheduled run instead.  FIRST schedule calls for a 6 miler (2 mi easy, 3 mi @ 8:23, 1 mi easy).

Why is the first mile so hard?  Ran into JonA at 1.5 mi., stopped to chat a little.  Boy, he's fast!!!!  I turned around in less than a min., he disappeared.  Felt good thru the 3 tempo miles.  But on the 1st cool down mile, twitches of muscle cramps showed up.   On the 2nd cool down mile, the ITB began to tug from knee to hip.  An old slight pain on the left knee (at 4 o'clock) also showed up.  I've had that pain before coming down off Bull River Rd. to 3200 N.  The pain went away when I picked up the pace a little.

7.2 miles in 1:05:05  AP: 9:02.  Splits:  10:51, 9:13, 8:05. 8:20, 8:16, 9:09, 9:23, 0.2 mi in 1:40 (8:48)

Still debating about DNews 10K.

Off to the temple.  Another busy day with orientation of new counselor, etc.

Have a Happy Thursday Everyone!

Evening:

Hubby got home early at 9pm so we went for a walk.  It really helped loosen the hip joints which got tight from all the sitting today.  Saw lots of runners out.  Nice evening.

Am/Pm Yoga.  Ahhh!  Felt so good to stretch.

From Teena on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:40:28 from 67.177.20.13

Please be careful with your IT-band. Please please please.

Do you need me to deep massage it and/or tape it?

I'm with you on D-News 10K ... can't seem to make up my mind. Wait ... just made up my mind ... I will do whatever you do!!! :) :) :)

Love you Smooth!

You need to sleep more!

Great run on the Tempo run. I am struggle to keep the pace and your flying below it. Sounds like you pushed it pretty hard to cramp up too. Great job.

From RAD on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:47:15 from 67.166.99.8

Nice job on the tempo! We did miss you though, sounds like we may do it again...so I'll let you know! I say do the DesNews 10K - I'll be there...that should be motivation enough :)

Take it easy lady! ;) "Live to run another day" is the mantra! It sounds like a GREAT run :) You are too cool for school!

Smooth, how about running the Speedy Spaniard 10K instead on the 24th? Would love to see you there : D

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 16:36:47 from 67.42.27.114

Hope the IT band is fine. Runners World has a stretch for IT band this month, in case you haven't seen it. I figure it couldn't hurt to add to the list of things to do.

From Smooth on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 00:13:03 from 71.32.234.19

Jeff,

THANKS! You and Meg are running so well. I don't envy the warm temp down in Vegas though.

Teena,

Wish you lived next door so I can take advantage of your special PT service! LOVE YOU!!! Oh, I'm 70% sure I'll run DNews. Oh yeah, we BOTH need more sleep. How's your run with the RS sisters. Was thinking about your RS run when Pres and I did our evening walk.

Kathie,

I looked for your mom but couldn't remember her name. I just smiled and said hi to all of them.

Mark,

I think I ran them too hard today. Keep at it. You're gonna see the improvement real soon.

Rachel,

Thought about you BBKs running up that monster today. You're gonna do GREAT at DNews.

Marion,

I figured it was only 3 miles. I could that long and run easy "another day". You're so cute!

jun,

Hope your ITB is behaving. You've been a good boy this week.

Leslie,

Will do! Your bootcamp sounds AWESOME!

julie,

I had a hard time finding info on that 10K. Is it a flat course? How much is the entry fee? GOOD LUCK at Canyon 1/2 this Sat. You're gonna win it!

Paul,

Thanks for pointing that out. Is that in the July issue? I will go back and check that out. Can't have enough preventive stuff.

From Bec on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 00:16:54 from 67.177.35.60

Smooth, we missed you today! Anytime you would like to run 'the beast' let me know. BBK girls are awesome!

From Smooth on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 00:28:53 from 71.32.234.19

Bec,

THANKS for the offer. But I'm WAY WAY WAY TOO SLOW for you. So HAPPY you found a great group to run with. I only know Kelli, Rachel, Walter and Shimelle from the group. They are awesome. I'm so NOT in their league though.

From JulieC on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 05:35:38 from 67.42.16.77

Smooth, this 10K would be easier on your IT band. Registration can be found by googling Speedy Spaniard 2009. The cost currently, by the 17th postmarked, Yay you can do it today, is 20 dollars, 17 withouth a shirt. The shirts are cotton usually. I pregistered so it was 12 dollars without shirt. Anyway, it is a fun more community feel race. It starts at the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon (always windy) at the golf course/park that has the Holiday drive thru Christmas light display. You run up for one mile then rolling downhill for the rest with a very small short uphill at mile 5 and then a little thru the town and around the main park in Spanish Fork. A big enough crowd, lots of prizes (ipods etc...) I never win those....yet : ( but it is in the country so you the course is enjoyable, a few pasture smells but hey, its the country. Scenic. The only hard part is the beginning, with the wind and the hill. But hey, that would be nice for your IT band wouldn't it? Not like Deseret News hammer it up course. It is probably sixes in travel time for you? Perhaps closer to go to Spanish Fork? It starts at 630 am. Yikes. The half this Saturday starts at 6. It is also free Bryce Canyon entrance weekend. That is the big plus. Should be nice, hiking all over there. Whatever yu decide, ENJOY : D

From JulieC on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 05:36:45 from 67.42.16.77

The rolling downhill is way gradual.

From JulieC on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 05:38:46 from 67.42.16.77

Locals call the route the River Bottoms. Don't you like that I am up this hour? My stomach is queezy/bloated on these antibiotics so it woke me. I drank some water and took a PRObiotic to help settle it. Going to bed again soon.

From Jon A on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 12:06:59 from 67.214.249.195

Good run Smooth! It was good to chat with you for a minute and learn of the good Lehi route you were taking. The only reason I was "fast" is I was afraid if I didn't sprint my fastest you would catch me. :-) (and there was no way I was going to try and out distance YOU, so I had to sprint and get off the streets.)

From Smooth on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 14:21:47 from 70.56.100.152

Julie,

Sorry you're up in the wee hours with queezy/bloated tummy. Anti-biotics does that sometimes. I'm allergic to Amoxicillin. It gives me hives. You should have been sleeping and resting. Have a nice trip down to Bryce. It's so beautiful there. GOOD LUCK! I know you will do great!

Thanks for the info on the Spanish Fork 10K. IT is cheaper, flatter, community feel (meaning not as crowded plus raffle prizes). Travel time is about the same either way for me. Hmm, now I don't know what to do. I'll talk it over with hubby today and make the decision.

Jon,

Seriously! YOU ARE FAST! I turned around at the light and you were gone in a flash. NO WAY NO HOW I could ever catch you!!! It was nice to see you running on your way back though. If you had darker complexion, you'd look like one of those Kenyans.

From Jon A on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 14:38:29 from 67.214.249.195

Smooth, that is soooo funny. "Kenyan." DARKER, and loose about 70 lbs! :-)

Have a great day Smooth!
