Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Met Luz at 6:30 am to run the PRT.  She ran down the big hill from Timp drive looking AWESOME!!!  We waited 10 min for the others who actually started at the mouth of the canyon (2-3 miles north of where we started).  Nice morning, temp in the mid 50s, overcast sky, strong headwind going up the canyon.  

Lots of runners & cyclists on the trail.  It was like a burst of sunshine when we saw MacK, MichelleL and Josse floating down the canyon.  We ran for another mile or so and hooked up with Ericka coming down at my mile 6.25 (perfect spot to turn around).  Then the three of us ran down together.  What a fun easy chatty pleasant run with GREAT companies!  THANKS Luz & Ericka for running with me!  :) :) :) :) :)


Side note:  Last night Eric KT taped my right quads and knee (I'm his first guinea pig) and put moleskin and bandaid on my left foot blister.   He also showed me some quads isometric exercise.  Nice to be taken care of! :)  Wore the Elixir two days in a row...ball of left foot a little sore.  Wore them on last Saturday's 15 miler with the same soreness and some tightness on the plantar fascia.  Still debating whether to wear these shoes for Ogden!

Spent the rest of the morning playing with Emi outside.  Got silly dizzy doing lotsa crazy fast ring-around-the roseys on the trampoline! :)

Playing on the trampoline sounds fun! I am hoping I can bust out some fast moves at ogden and do 13 in 2:03! Awesome run!!!

SO jealous! Sounds like a wonderful run with great company. I did get the 'fun with family' part today, and in the long run (ha, no pun intended) isn't that what really matters? I guess I shouldn't be too upset. I'll get your company for 26+ miles (if I can keep up with you) next week! :)

Nice run, Smooth. I really like the Garmin Connect stuff..especially the "Player". I could just imagine you running up the canyon, and then back down. Cool technology. Enjoy an easy week and good luck at Ogden.

Very cool, Smoothie. Looks like a lot of people ran American Fork Canyon today, including Maynard. You are very lucky to have a place like that to run. I wish we could run up Ogden Canyon, but the road is so narrow and no shoulder. Too dangerous.

SSF ~ The headwind and uphill made the breathing a little labored. So when I started to cough around mile 3, I had to take my inhaler. It helped especially when we passed by the campground where folks were cooking with charcoal. The smell would have been bad for my lungs. I guess I'm still having asthma issue. STINK!!!

Funny when I saw my time 2:03:02 which is the exact same time the elite man won the Boston Marathon and the unofficial world record!!! He was twice as fast as me! :)

Rachel ~ So glad you had a fun family day. That's really what counts. We will have our fun day next Sat. :)

Marc ~ Will do! My sister is visiting from California so for sure I will be taking it easy and eating like no tomorrow! :)

Dale ~ Canyon running is fun if it's safe! The American Fork Canyon is like Ogden Canyon, narrow with no shoulder and quite winding, very dangerous! I used to run there when I was a newbie and had a few close calls so I no longer run there now. We ran on the Provo River Trail in Provo Canyon. So it is not on the canyon road and very safe. You should come join us sometimes. We mostly run on trails/parkways, much safer and very scenic!

Hey Smooth lady. Thank you for coming all the way down to run with me, even though I botched the pick up point with the others! It was perfect to run the second half (downhill) together. You always give me such good energy and when we're done running, I spend time remembering things you taught me. I really got out of wack these last weeks and running with you was like a good tune up. You have such good form and I thought we kept a pretty nice, easy pace. You seemed pretty breezy to me with lots to spare (specially, after the inhaler). Good luck to you next week! You are going to do awesome like always!! XO
