Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

My WBR team captain found me shopping at the store yesterday afternoon.   He seemed concern...saw me limping around and quickly assured me that he could get the bishop's son to run my legs.  Was I limping around?  Dang!

Had a dream, er nightmare last night that I was doing WBR with crutches in the Provo Canyon!  Strange!

Leg pain was at 2 upon waking up, whew...no crutches!  AM/PM yoga!  Felt great.  Went to meetings.

Today I'm gonna do church stuff, eat, drink and be merry!

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 17:50:46 from 75.162.175.61

Get rid of that darn limp!!! Will you call me Friday evening to let me know if you are running the race or not or will it be a race morning decision? We'll be heading down to Provo Friday evening to pick up our race packets and check into the La Quinta.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 18:55:41 from 207.200.116.131

MrsFIT,

I don't know how to write. I need a scribe.

Dale,

When I was shopping late afternoon yesterday, I saw a young mother with an artificial limb. I almost burst out in tears...here I was limping from a stupid 5K race. Really put things in perspective for me. Ain't gonna whine any more about not running.

No worries. I'm 50% sure I'll run on Sat. Don't you love indecisive women? Have a safe drive down. Are you going to the Symposium?

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 20:05:04 from 152.216.7.5

Oh, Smoothie, you crack me up. Way to put things in perspective. Well, I'll be glad to run with you Saturday morning and if not, I'll run with you in spirit.

I'm not sure about the symposium. Would be kind of cool, but I don't know if we'll have time to go. Were you planning on going?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 20:37:32 from 71.36.86.1

Dale,

I have to stick around the house when the shutter guy from Lowes comes, somewhere around 3-5pm. Then as soon as hubby comes home, hopefully by 5pm., we'll head down to pick up the packet. We want to grab dinner right after that. I like to eat early. If we get done with dinner early enough, we'll stop by the Symposium.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 22:04:18 from 152.216.7.5

Smoothie...I'm hoping we'll leave our house by 5 pm to head down there. I can't remember how long it takes from Ogden. I might have to eat my carb-loaded dinner before we leave. I don't want to eat late before a marathon ever again. Before Ogden it seems like we didn't get our food until it was almost 7:00. Way too late for me.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 22:05:03 from 152.216.7.5

Smoothie, did you want to get on the early or later buses?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 22:58:54 from 71.36.67.15

Dale,

Rush hour traffic on Friday seems to be worse than weekdays. So it's probably good idea to eat on route or before if you want to eat earlier than 7.

Hmm, in a big race, I usually get on an earlier bus to get to the start line at least an hour before gun time. Have no idea how big UVM is gonna be. I'll probably get on the bus before 4:30. It's only about 20 min. up the canyon. There should be cell service up there; so if we don't connect on the bus ride up, we can find each other at the top.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 23:03:01 from 71.36.67.15

Dale,

What time are you shooting for?

From Bec on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 00:06:49 from 67.177.35.60

I love how you are up in your spirits even though you are in pain. Runners tend to ignore pain. I bet you are thinking, "it's really not that painful. I'm just limping because well, I don't know."

Take it EASY Smooth. Don't hurt yourself over this weekend.

From DonGardinero on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 00:41:45 from 152.216.7.5

Ok, that sounds good. I'll try and get on the 4:30 bus, too.

As for a goal, I have no idea what time to shoot for. I was hoping to get a better idea after I ran Ogden, but we all know how that turned out. LOL. I'd really like to finish between 4:30 and 4:45. I've never run that canyon before so I have no idea what to expect.

From RivertonPaul on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 12:13:49 from 67.42.27.114

Get better. We all prefer a healthy Smoothie.

From MarcE on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 12:57:08 from 129.188.33.25

Good luck tomorrow! (I know you said you're 50% sure you'll run, but we all know that number is closer to 95%) Long, easy training run. Practice not cramping! :) Can't wait to hear about your exciting run, and those people you meet along the way!

From Kathie on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 13:53:02 from 207.155.176.10

Have a great run tomorrow! ditto what Marc said...I couldn't have said it any better.

From Smooth on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 14:57:08 from 207.200.116.131

RivertonPaul,

I will. Healthy is good. THANKS for sending those ITB articles last month. They are very helpful.

Marc,

Thank you! You know me too well. No cramping and no ITB acting up is the goal.

Kathie,

THANKS! Wish you were running this. May be I'll see the Road Crew next week.
