Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

My quads were achy last night sitting for 3 hrs at the SL Community College Honor Dinner/Program.  The food was good (Marriott's food isn't the best).  We had fresh fruits and mediteranean and Asian skewers for or'derve (sp?)  The dinner was spinach salad w/ candied walnuts and grapes, halibut with herbed rice and aspargus, dessert was black forest chocolate cake.  The academic people sure like to talk and so did the senators.

Anyway, this morning I woke up with the same achy legs.  Had to hurry to get the run done so I could make it to my meetings and temple.  Ran the "Break the Taper" workout:  3 X 2000m at 10K pace with 2-3 min. rest.  Half mile into the run, it dawned on me that I had set the Garmin at 20K interval instead of 2K.  So I stopped, reset the thing and ran for another mile for warm up.  T. was 53, sunny, a bit windy (headwind for 3/4 of the run).  I don't really know how to do this workout other than run the 2K as if I was racing a 10K. 

Lap splits:  Warm up ~ 9:25;  1st inerval @ 8:51 w/ RI @ 9:16;  2nd interval @ 8:27 w/ RI @ 8:55;  3rd interval @ 8:05 w/ RI @ 9:00

6.25 miles in 53:20  AP: 8:50

Had no time to stretch well.  With all that sitting for hours in meetings and in the temple, my left knee (I think it's the IT) is huring and the quads are sore.  I hope I haven't done any damage.  This taper thing is so tricky.  No running tomorrow so I can run 12 on Sat.  I probably won't do Sasha's 5 miler race.

I hope your legs start feeling better. I still can't believe you're running another 26.2 so soon after Boston. Good luck with the tapering!

So good to hear from you. It's the same soreness I felt the night after I ran Boston. I hope it isn't an injury. I need to diligently stretch before and after my run. I'm a little nervous as Ogden is where I had the worst charlie horse the last two years. I'm hoping this is the year I will conquer that. I try not to think about how insanely crazy that is to run back to back marathons.

Nice work today Smooth!! I'm so sorry to hear about your knee pain...I certainly hope it is NOT your ITB!!! If it is stretch, stretch and stretch some more...icing helps too (ice massage).

If your not running the race, where are you planning to do 12? I may come with you depending on time...

I have Round Table tonight; so much for trying to nurse that ITB.

My friend, Lowell, is coming from Idaho tomorrow. We are planning to run 12 at the Porter Rockwell and Draper Canal Parkway. He's gonna call me when he arrives. He's surprising his wife who's been at the Quilt Expo in Sandy. Depends on where their motel is, I will either meet him at the motel or the park Sat around 7am. We'll be running the same route we (you, Becca, MetCalf, Kelli and I) did Easter Sat. It will be wonderful if you can come. Lowell is a great marathoner. He ran 9 marathons last year in a span of 6 months. We were supposed to run Boston together but we didn't make the connection there although I crossed the finish 23 seconds ahead of him and he ran a minute faster than me.

Anyways, I can PM you my cell phone if you want to come.

Nice run smooth. One of these days I am going to learn how to use my garmin better. All I do now is turn it on and go.

I am going to run 12 tomorrow too I would come with you guys but our group is meeting after the run and I feel should support them.

The so called "Break the Taper" workout is sent by my friend, Lowell. It was in the RW Nov.2007 article where Greg McMillan gave guidelines on tapering. Tapering correctly is critical. Rest too much and you might feel sluggish on rac day. Scale back too little and you may beel fatigued. Thus I was doing 400 m intervals on Tue and 2K intervals on Thu. I'm so new to interval running that I probably made the mistake of going out too fast on the 400 m and wasn't able to complete all 10 set. Yesterday I ran the 2K intervals on the road and it was a bit tricky to keep the pace even. The RI (rest intervals were jogs for 3 min.

I am resting today (Fri.) from running; although I have alot of errands to "run". I am doing the Grand Slam, plus Boston so 5 or 6 like last year. How's your leg? Don't follow my lead. I'm nuts; most of time I just do what feels right.
