Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Plan to run 9 EZ today.  As I was choosing which of the 4 pr of shoes to wear (they all have over 300+ miles and hashed), the phone rang.  Mary wanted to run with me.  She needed motivation.  She wants to run Ogden as her very first marathon.

I forgot to turn on my Garmin until about 1.75 miles into the run when Mary asked how fast we're going.  That's what happen when you start with someone you haven't seen for a long time and has a million things to talk about.  She only wanted to run 6 today.  Well, I'm a terrible coach.  I took her on two hills and ended up making her run about 7.25 miles.  I left her and finished my run with 10.25 miles total.

Felt good the entire run.  Mary and I solved all the problems with her Stake's YW, and my Stake Primary.  We found our purposes in life.  She learned about tempo run, intervals, rest and cross training, long runs, motivation to run, blah blah blah.  It was all good.  I hope she's not too sore and never want to run with me again.

Garmin shows 8.5 miles in 1:21:16. Average pace 9:30.  Arthritis: 6 (stinks)

My arthritic knees are killing me, too! Arthritis stinks always!!!

Okay, so I need to run with you so you can solve the problems of our ward YW's!!!

Great job today, and I am sure she will run with you again!

Wow, 10+ miles and it's not even your long day. You're taring it up! You the Woman!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 18:02:43

Kelli --

My arthritis seems to only act up when there's a change in weather patterns. Cold mornings are the worst.

Mary's a great YW leader. Her oldest is only 10. You young mothers are amazing. And the YW nowadays are the choicest.

Marion --

I'm really just plain dumb, can't add while I'm running. Mary might think I'm an evil coach.

Kathie --

Of course we can find our purpose in life in one run. Mine just changes everyday. When are you coming over to this valley? I'd love to run with you. Sorry I can't fix your car. I'm not married to a mechanic either.

Teena --

You have no idea how badly I want to run with you. You're too amazingly fast for me which is WONDERFUL and AWESOME. It makes me SO HAPPY to see you run. I have already resigned to the idea that I could never run with you. Please heal up FAST and SOON and COMPLETELY, so you can run painfree again. Once your obu nerve heals up, you're going to be better and faster and stronger than ever. I just know it.

Good run Smooth,

Hey, I think I saw you the other night (Tues). Were you at a Orchestra performance in Lehi? I'm NOT good with faces, or I think I'm not, but I thought, "that sure looks like Smooth!"

I love how positive you are. Thank you!

From Smooth on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 15:54:55

Jon,

Yes, I was at my son's orchestra concert Tue. night. I didn't even know he had a concert 'till 6:15pm when he told me he needed another ride to the high school. I had already taken him and picked him up from his "Dancing with the Athletes" practice that afternoon. I had a church committment at 8:00. Long story short, I missed his prelude performance and got there for the 30 min. of the concert and missed part of my church committment. Crazy, crazy.

Were you there for a family member's performance?

From jona on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 17:17:51

Smooth, I was there to see my friends daughter perform. She said that you were the wife of her Stake President (or former Stake Pres.) You were sitting right behind us when we got up, you were to the lady behind us.

I should have said hello!

From Kelli on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 18:48:24

Okay, thanks for correcting me! They are definitely daughter's of God!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 23:43:49

Jon -- Yes, you should have said hello. I am terrible with names and faces. Everyone looks familiar to me. I could never remember where I've met them.

Who's your friend? I wonder if I know her. Most people know me as the wife of the Stake Pres., or mother of the Lew boys.

Kelli -- I just love you!!! You're the mother of one of them and that makes you the choicestest!!!

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 19:08:27

AH, I love you, too! You are so nice to me!

Being one of those mothers is a challenging thing sometimes. Now I know what I put my own mother through!!! I should go apologize right now.
